For my generation, buying a house is out of the question. I invest in crypto, so that maybe I can buy a home. But! I take all that risk just to get a house, and government taxes me to oblivion. However, if you won the birth lottery of the boomers, you got a less competitive labor market, cheap housing and the greatest investment tax conditions in the history of civilisation surrounding property investment. A property investor makes way more return than I do in crypto, pays less tax, and government does everything it can to protect the property investment class. Yet, the ladder has been pulled up behind them. And no doubt, when I’m ready to retire, my generation will be paying a lot more tax on our super than boomers currently do. Anyway, my overall point is, the tax system around property and the protection of it as an investment class… well it’s no where near a free market. It’s a trough at which older generations have gorged themselves at the expense of their offspring. Now we have to take extreme risk and be taxed to death for it. In fact my taxes are subsidising the greedy generations property investment. Ain’t that a great deal!

That's 2x the annual cost of our entire medicare system and 3x our annual defence budget. 1 in 3 jobs created last year was an NDIS job. Our taxes are being hosed into the ether, pushing up inflation and luring thousands of productive workers to become extremely overpaid adult babysitters at the taxpayers expense. Wherever possible everyone should be an owner occupier, and where rental properties are needed for mew immigrants etc, they should be owned and operated by companies funded by the Australia superannuation funds, and supervised to prevent them from rorting their tenants.
