Glazing Pottery - How I glaze lots of different types of ceramics for kiln firing
Hi Friends
Lots of you have asked how I glaze my ceramics and in this video I take you through glazing lots of different forms ready for firing. I also show how I load everything into my Skutt kiln (KMT-1018) and the results after firing. I’m sorry there was a lot of background noise in parts of this video.
Happy Pottering!

Kurinuki Teapot - How to carve a small teapot from a block of clay
What is the length of the loop tool you're using and who makes it? I've been cutting my kurinuki bottles lengthwise to carve them out because my loop tools are too short.
Hey this is just a normal loop tool you can get from pottery supply stores - I'm not 100% sure the make I'm afraid. So I cannot be more helpful! x
Quick question - do the glazes tend to run at all? I noticed you applied very close to the bottom of the little houses, which by the way are really cute 😊
These didn't run at all :) Thank you for your kind words! xxx
I love them!
Hi Cecilia Thank you I'm so glad x
They are beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you and thank you for watching! x
How to use if you can’t turn the spinning cart. It‘s not a very good shape.
🧠Nice!
Thank you!
That is just so ADORABLE!!
Ah thank you so much xxxx
You said you will make your kitchen and bathroom with your tiles We didn't see before and after video pleas show us
Hey I have a separate video on the bathroom tiles x
It would be nice if you make tuturial tile makeing without talking

Hehehe!! soooooooo many x
Love these dishes! What clay are you using?
😍beautiful
Thank you!
You plate is sooo cool. Wow
Ah thank you so much xxx
I loooove your videos ! They are so inspirational ! I was wondering if you would make a video of how you clean your pottery space and how you keep it "healthy" to work in (silica dust) ?
Thank you and I'm so glad you are enjoying the videos :) Yes that is something I've been thinking more and more about and really trying to keep on top of cleaning - we just had a massive clear out and took everything out of the studio to do a deep clean so everything is looking so great now. It would def make a great video xx
@@BlankEarthCeramics Wow good job !! You must feel so good in your pottery studio now 😀 Looking forward to seeing your futur videos, they are all so amazing !!! xx from Switzerland
Plates are very nice ❤
Ah thank you so much x
Wow. Very nice pieces.
Ah thank you so much xx
I just love all your makes! Was looking at your website and I think I might be emailing you 1st of next year when we decide to get new place settings. I love the shape and style of your dinnerware!
Hi Kara Ah thank you for your kind words and so glad you love the dinnerware :) Thank you for your support xxx
What clay would you recommend for this?
Most clays that have some grog in it will work fine :)
What type of clay did you use?
Hey I used a stoneware clay with a bit of grog in it x
@@BlankEarthCeramics thank you! Also it’s so cute and I love that the roof flips ❤️
heyyy you sound like Oliver twisttt
Just curious how do you account for clay shrinking when I imagine you need them a certain size? Is there a certain type of clay that you prefer?
Hey you can calculate the shrinkage - this clay is 12% but we also made 10% more than we needed to be safe. When the tiler put them on the wall he just cut the edges to size :) This clay was a stoneware with some grog in it (www.potclays.co.uk/flecked-stoneware) but there are some clays specific for tiles like this one: www.potclays.co.uk/miller-tile-body
Where did you get your bats from?
Hey they are from Hartley and Noble hartleyandnoble.co.uk
Very Cute!! Thank you for sharing!!
Thank you for watching :)
Lovely. Terrifically helpful.
That's great! So glad you found it helpful :) Thank you fro watching!
hold the camera still - it is very distracting
This is a very interesting skill to learn. Thank you
Great! so glad you found it helpful :)
What do you use for the incense? Do you make that yourself too?
No I don't but if you search incense cones lots will come up - Etsy is a great place to get them :)
Beautiful art pottery, enjoy watching the steps you go through to the finished product.
Ah thank you for your kind words and glad you enjoyed the video xx
great thanks.. definitely going to give it a go.. *note to self.. *this time, let the thing get leatherhard before you start carving - be patient :Oo
Haha pottery is all about learning patience!! Easier said than done lol
You are inspirational, thank you
Ah thank you so much for your kind words!
Adorable!
Thank you!
These are so beautiful, Love your work!
Yay! Ah thank you thanks so lovely of you :)
great.. and inspiring.. ta :)
I'm so glad! Thank you for watching :)
crikey.. the time flew by.. great.. thanks for the video, the teachings, and the (santa) sackful of ideas :)
Hehe so glad you enjoyed and got some nice ideas and inspiration :)
great.. going to try this for christmas presents.. oh, and mam, hope your not watching :)
Hehe! I like that you are making your Christmas presents so early! Very prepared!
This is incredible! What is the material that the boards are made of? I didn’t quite catch that!
The background boards? They are plywood. The boards for making the tiles are water resistant mdf x
Beautiful!❤
Thank you! X
Love your work!❤️❤️❤️
Ah thank you so much xx
wheres the cracks video or. blog
Hey sorry I'm not sure what you mean?
@@BlankEarthCeramics Hi! You said in the video you'd make a video or blog about what to do about the cracks that form with Kurinuki (to answer someone's email concern to you). Wondering where that is. Thanks
@@LoveGuruBlaire Ah I'm afraid I haven't done that yet but I will try and put that all in a video in the future - thanks for the reminder :)
So magical!
Ah thank you so much xx
Love!!!❤
Thank you!! Xx
I love your cottages. I don’t work with porcelain and I hand build every thing. I am wondering how do you put your lights in the Christmas cottage ornament, and where could I get it.
Ah thank you so much! The lights are small led battery powders ones for balloons - they have a little loop on the end to thread through a ribbon for hanging :) There are lots on amazon x
@@BlankEarthCeramics thank you so much
Oh my gosh, I love this one so much! 😍
AH yay thank you :) xx
So beautiful!💖 Did you add a dark color in some of the carved stars, or is that just the one blue glaze reacting?
Thank you!! I added some platinum lustre to highlight the stars after glazing - sorry I dint include that but I have a video of the process that I will share soon :)
