2019 Japan Part IV
Kurama Fire Festival takes place on October 22 every year. This festival is to reenact the ceremony that was held when the Yuki shrine was moved to Kurama during some war in 940 AD.
From Grand Prince Hotel Kyoto, it was about a 20 minute walk to Kino Station, then about another 20 minutes to Kurama Station by train. The train wasn't too packed getting there (about 150% occupancy, I think), and I got there in time to see the chaos starting to unfold. I guess the organizers and police wanted for visitors to continuously be moving clockwise while the fire festival took place going back and forth on the street. You can hear them yelling “move along!” in the video.
I thought that was silly because there’s not moving along if the people in front of you are not moving. I'm not sure how many thousand people were there, but there was no moving. It's unfortunate that the police officers were louder than the men and women carrying the torches yelling "SAIREI SAIRYO!" Police could yell all they want, but if the person in front isn't moving, I can't move. I just can't. Physics. Aside from the irrational and unnecessary yelling, it was nice to see the event. What do you think?

In Week 3 of my stay in Japan, I traveled to Niigata Prefecture where I visited Niigata City for two nights before I hopped over to Sado Island. Niigata is a prefecture that I had been to before a few times, but there's still so much to see. Geographically, Niigata is situated in the north central part of Honshu (the main island), facing the Sea of Japan. Niigata City is the capital, and is at ...

Nicknamed the thousand-year capital, Kyoto is the former capital of Japan until the Emperor moved to Tokyo in 1869. Today, this city of nearly 1.5 million remains Japan's cultural center, and although it's inundated with tourists, the beautiful hills and valleys on the outskirts, and several hundred year old temples and shrines in the city make it well worth the visit. I always recommend first ...

My trip to Japan was incredible. Seeing my family and spending time with them was the best. Traveling to Sado, and Kyoto was really nice too, as I got to experience parts of Japan that I hadn't been to before. Three weeks and six days including the travel days was too short though. Anyway, photography is my passion, and I took about a thousand photos in October while I was in Japan. I sometimes...

These were the last few days in Japan. For 2019, I travelled to Niigata, the island of Sado, and also to places in Kyoto that I had not been to before. The Kurama Fire Festival was a powerful experience, and seeing the hundreds of torii at Fushimi Inari was really awesome. The wagashi I got to enjoy at Toraya was out of this world. I flew the QF787 PER - MEL earlier 2023. Seated 12K. Yes business class... I was absolutely amazed that the whole aircraft began to vibrate in resonance with the engines spooling up. They are some serious propulsion units. Then the flaps rolled out... It was a magnificent flight.... At 41 000 feet, my Jack Daniels barely rippled...

We don't put fuel cutoff switches on at a certain n2 during start like in older types. It's overhead start switches to start, fuel control switches to run then leave it to sort itself out.
