    Hello Cory, thank you very much for the video you made on the topic of Marimba. The information you shared based on your experience was really very useful. I want to know if you know of any website where I can download the sound of each marimba key independently. I am conducting a personal research project on the marimba and the sound files I have managed to find usually include the sounds of the marimba but are accompanied by other instruments or are marimba song files. But what I need is the sound for each key of the marimba.

      I’m not too sure about specific ‘sound libraries’ that have live recordings of each independent bar, but I know some people have used things like that as plug-ins for notation software playback. You may want to try reaching out to percussion composers about that, they will definitely have more information!

    Super helpful info; thank you! I've always been told to aim for the center of the marimba bars, but you're right that you get a lot more resonance aiming a little below center. I'm definitely going to give the sticky note trick a try as well and may encourage my students to do so when practicing (I'm a front ensemble tech for a local high school). Thanks again!

    What is the other instrument that the bell player is playing called?

    • @hittinstuff
      @hittinstuff Před 10 měsíci

      That’s a bongo cajon - they’re not very common, but I like the sound! (It calls for actual bongos, but our heads busted before this recording)

    How long would you say you warm up for?

    • @hittinstuff
      @hittinstuff Před 3 lety

      It definitely depends on how much I plan on practicing after, but I’d say the average is probably 15 minutes for the warmup.

  • @DeeboComing
    @DeeboComing Před 3 lety

    Great video. I always tell people to make sure their warmup works general technique but also has specific things in it that will help you with the current pieces that you're working on. If you're not playing a piece or don't plan to play any piece that has triple laterals at 140 bpm, it's probably not a good idea to spend 30 mins a day doing triple laterals in your warmup. Lol.

  • @diyalbum3402

    Hmm, one curious observation ..when scrubbing the tom to get that rubbery reverberative tone (appx 4:40), the down pressure on it seems to shift the drum's pitch into intonations that I think don't agree with vocal key ..even though the key is somewhat monotonal. The next time you two perform this you might want to tune the toms so the scrubbed tone complements the pitch of the vocals ..that tone will be more important to match than their natural, transient pitches (i.e. when they're tapped/hit, I'm not sure what the proper term is), because the natural transient pitch is not sustained, if I had to compromise, I'd favor the scrubbed, sustained pitches. Not your down-voter, just spitballing.
