Registrace 27. 08. 2018
After years of living in the suburbs, we sold everything, quit or jobs and moved our family of now 7 into two sheds that we've converted into our home. We are in the works of turning the raw land into a full time profitable homestead!
Preparing for a MASSIVE FOOD HAUL for a FAMILY OF 7 and How I Organize Our BULK FOOD
This week we go through all our food storage - the prepper pantry, two deep freezers, 5 gallon gamma sealed buckets, and shelves of canned and dry goods, to take inventory after a summer of eating through everything so we could make room for a MASSIVE FOOD HAUL. Yes! We also talk about how we organize and rotate through our food - glass jars for inside the house food, Azure Standard gravity bins for interim storage, 5 gallon gamma sealed buckets for long term storage.

Thank you 💛
So are your bins 4 gallon or 8 gallon? I see the 2 sizes on AS
These are the 4 gallon ones. I'm working on a video that will test how different things work in them. I feel like that would be good to know. Thanks for watching 💛
150!!!!
Did they drop the price???!!
Beautiful Root Cellar. You are organized, I am sure that helps you sleep at night. Thank you!
Thank you so much! It really is great piece of mind. I appreciate you watching and commenting 💛
Love your food storage! We too had the same problem during Covid! Thanks to our small food storage, it has sustained us during times of unemployment, deaths and illness. My goal is to live without a grocery store for a year! Love your bins from Azure!
What an amazing goal to have! And I agree, a sufficient food supply can help in times of extreme hardship. It will also allow us to help others when they're in need. Thank you so much for watching and the comment!
You are awesome! Seriously enjoyed this video😂
So glad you like it! Thank for watching 💛
Where did you get your egg storage?
From Premier1. Thanks for watching! www.premier1supplies.com/p/x-tuff-egg-crates-trays?criteria=X-Tuff+Egg+Crate+and+Trays&species_id=0&cat_id=0
I love those big glass containers from inside the house. The big ol’ wide ones. Where’d ya snag those?
I got them from Target, but I was walking around Walmart the other day, and they had them too!
I absolutely LOVE your cold room!! What a great investment. Another fantastic video! My freezer is getting low as well but I’m preparing for a side of beef to pickup in November. Looking forward to your next video! 🌻
Thank you! Oh man! You are going to have such a full freezer with that beef 🙌🏼
I just found your channel and I'm watching all your older videos. I'm in Ohio and I get the biggest laugh when a snow storm is coming and they all rush to the store. I could probably last a couple months with the food in my pantry and freezer. Keep the videos coming, I enjoy watching you and your family.
Welcome! We're so glad to have you here! We definitely cannot handle the cold weather. The waterline freezing is the worst lol
I know I'm a few months late on posting this but Jason over at Cog Hill Farm uses silage tarps to control weeds on the beds he's not using. They might be helpful if you can afford them. Don't get discouraged about the garden some years it does better than others. I know last year I couldn't grow a sunflower, they just wasn't coming up and this year I have a bumper crop of them. Everything looks great.
Thank you for the suggestion. I'll go check them out. We do have one silage tarp, so maybe we can get some ideas on other ways to use it!
Azure standard is a rip off shop nothing more.
Why do you think that?
@@tinyshedlife they charge twice as much for it and you still have to go to pick it up.
@colinvoss8484 twice as much? It's a quarter the price of where I shop regularly. We're working tirelessly to get a drop set up closer to us so we can start shopping there
I completely agree! Maybe he doesn't realize it's organic or like organic?
@tinyshedlife I don't know, it's often way cheaper than non organic products as well. The only thing I find to be more expensive than buying local (which are not organic while these are organic) were beans. Wheat berries and mason jars especially, are pennies compared to the cheapest I could find elsewhere

If he has a 4 wheel drive truck puts it in low lock I bet he could pull that container. They don't weigh that much especially if he has boards or logs under it. Good Luck

If the kids don’t respond well to the wheat bread, mix your flour 1/2 and 1/2. It makes it closer to the white bread with some of the wheat benefits. I found it a good compromise.
Thanks for the tip! That didn't even cross my mind. 💛
I buy some items from Azure. Not everything is a good deal but I do buy the 25lb bag of oats. I'm glad we have a drop close by (within an hour).
The oats are a fantastic deal, at least compared to our nearest grocery store. Glad you have a drop nearby! Thanks for watching!
If the whole white wheat flour doesn’t work with the family I would highly recommend trying Azure Standards ultra unifine bread flour. I’ve found that is acts like regular flour with most it being mostly whole grain! It’s delicious!
I didn't know it was whole grain! I have some in the freezer. I'll try that too! Thank you so much for sharing 💛
Can’t wait to see how the fall garden turns out
Me too! I hope nature doesn't eat too much.
Automatic chicken doors are so helpful! Also a station that measures rain? How useful!
Yes!! Both are great. Thanks for watching 💛
Nuts can get rancid. Do you store extra in the fridge or do you go through them quick enough before they do?
Depending on the variety, we go through the 5lb bags anywhere between 1-3 months. I'd say the ones in the house get replaced monthly and the ones in storage we keep at 45° in the pantry cooler. No issue yet, thoughts?
@@tinyshedlife sounds like you store them properly and go through them quick enough before they go bad. I've had sunflower seeds go bad, store bought, small bags for nibbling. I also had refrigeratorated pecans go bad after a few months. Maybe they were old to begin with. Thanks 😊
Freeze nuts n seeds
@YeshuaKingMessiah yes!! Thanks for watching 💛
Good fats are the secret to health and dropping a few pounds. I went from a size 10 to a size 2 eating protein and good fat. And my hair stopped falling out and my skin is clear!🎉❤🎉
Yes!! That's amazing!! Great job! I feel like I get enough, but I'm wondering if it has something to do with my iron levels?
Man, it looks like you came close to dumping a couple of them off on the floor. You stronger woman than me picking up the 25 pounds over your head almost. That looks like a great organizational tool. Thanks for sharing. Blessings.
Thank you! 🙏🏼 I hope I can lift them for many years to come!

Hopefully it lasts us!! Thank you for watching 💛

Definitely so much better and really not too much extra effort! So thankful for Azure Standard too!
I got a bread machine and it's never been easier to make bread. I couldn't believe when I found high fructose corn syrup in the ingredients of the "whole wheat" bread in the grocery

I cant do bread the regular way but my machine is ahhhhmazing i found a machine recipe called walter sands favorite bread recipe (founder of King Arthur) . Not many ingredients and always comes out perfect -annnnnd… you dont need bread flour. It uses all purpose. So exciting 🎉
That's the best!! Thanks for sharing! I'm going to look that up.
Great video, Sarah. I only eat 6 or 7 hazelnuts at a time. I'm not a big fan but they are good for heart health. Have you tried baking with almonds lour?
I definitely eat more than 7 🤣 are you eating them roasted?
I've done a little baking with almond flour for cookies, but no bread. My friend is paleo and gluten free and uses it all the time.
@@tinyshedlife I keep saying I am going to learn to bake with it. I can't even find where I put it in the pantry. Lol.
Just a lil hint for you in your bread making: I bake my bread in multiple batches then freeze the individual loaves of bread raw and before the first proofing. The first proofing is done as the dough thaws. The second proofing is in the from I want the bread to be. That way I don’t have to be making bread every other day. I just pull it from the freezer, let it thaw then form it and bake it. Sometimes I pull it from the freezer last thing before bed and thaw it overnight in the fridge. The last proof in the morning. ❤
I'll have to give this a try. Thank you! Is that for a sourdough? I've been doing a regular/yeast white bread with only two proofs during the day, then slice after baking, and freezing. We pull them out a couple hours before needing them.
@@tinyshedlife I haven’t ventured into sourdough successfully yet. But all the other breads you mentioned as well as other breads I’ve made this works great. Anadama, cinnamon rolls, focaccia and our New England brown bread from B&M Baked Beans when they were here in Portland.
Wow! Gorgeous! Thanks for sharing will be clicking your link! Ps pancake mix sugar rice beans & oats would be my pick ❤
Thank you so much! Great idea on the pancake mix!
Great job, and that’s such a great goal for 2024! It’s not an easy skill to get proficient in, or teach! Have you ever seen Top Branch? @top_branch makes it look like a walk in the park every time! We are generally blown away any time we watch their videos! 😂 Thankfully there’s plenty of trees to practice on! 😊

I agree! Definitely good friends! I love seeing your garden. Looking forward to your fall one!
@@tinyshedlife😊
Do you sell these?❤
Yes!
Rices, beans, lentils, elbow pasta.
Yes! Pasta! We eat a ton of that.
Ooo love seeing the set up! I would definitely put rice in one of them. Oats and beans in the others.
Thank you! That's exactly what I added!
Beautiful, but there may be a problem filling them since the ceiling is so close & the big bags would have to be hoisted above your head. If you need a cheap shelf to put your bins on you can use 2 of the same type 5 gallon buckets and a 12" deep x 1" thick board x needed length (If you use the 7 gal buckets you will be able to put your other buckets or bags under the shelf. Or to access all things and make other shelves you can use heavy duty milk crates on their sides). I would put oatmeal, rice, beans, barley and small pasta in them. One method to help use the oldest things on your shelf is to have all of the oldest at the front on the right. When you get new you put them on the left (Per type of food). The stuff on the floor in big bags is not as easy, but putting Also, if you do not have time to keep a ledger/chart of your stock have your homeschoolers make a chart for you (You need: Date; Name; Size or servings; Quantity; Location; Type of container; anything else important). My mom used to add to her jar label - 1 of 3, 2 of 3, 3 of 3.
So many great ideas! Thank you! One of these days I will need to get in there and organize better. My 11 year old has been asking to do it with me. Be sure to watch my last video of me filling the bins!
My first thought was rice…I don’t think it’s weird. I guess whatever you eat the most of. Very cool. I can see where you’d want to get more and go right across the top shelf!
I'm glad you agree! It's working out great so far 🙌🏼 total goals for across the top!!
Millet, rice, beans
Thank you for the ideas! I've never used millet. Do you mind sharing how you use it?
@@tinyshedlife I love and appreciate millet. It aggravates the intestinal walls far less than quinoa or buckwheat, my other favorite grains. I use millet as a side dish with olives, onion, garlic and olive oil; it's especially good with a tomato/chicken dish. I love it for breakfast, with a cup of wild blueberries, coconut milk, blanched or sprouted almond slices and maple syrup. I've also seasoned it with curry powder and have added onion, celery, Italian Parsley and mushrooms. It's actually very diverse - let your imagination go wild!
@cherylplanert2673 I was literally thinking, "Wow! So diverse!!" Thanks for sharing with all of us. I'll have to add it to my Azure list!
@@tinyshedlife thank you. Millet is sure worth your trial!
