Hiking & backpacking.
Solo Hammock Camping in Pinchot State Forest, PA
A relaxing overnight adventure with no talking, no music, no animations, and no subtitles. Just the sights and sounds of nature, and my footsteps on the trail. This is my 3rd time hiking in this area, so I thought I'd try something different with this video. If you would like to know more of the details about which trails I hiked and how far, check out one of my previous videos in Pinchot. Relax and enjoy!

Balsam Mountain Loop - Big Indian Wilderness - Catskills - NY
zhlédnutí 631Před rokem
A winter overnight up to Balsam Mountain and down the other side to the Rider Hollow Lean-To for some cold weather overnight camping. Not to be confused with Balsam "Lake" Mountain which has the fire tower at the top, Balsam Mountain is in the Big Indian Wilderness between Eagle Mountain and Belleayre Mountain.
Little Rock Pond - Appalachian Trail - VT
zhlédnutí 384Před rokem
An icy cold overnight adventure in January in Vermont, hiking a few miles on the Appalachian Trail to a very frozen Little Rock Pond and camping overnight at the tenting area near the pond. Then hiking back out with a stop to check out the pond and the shelter before heading back to the trailhead. Beautiful views and lots of snow and ice!

A winter overnight adventure in the Slide Mountain Wilderness in the Catskills, camping by the Neversink River. On Day 2 hiking up Table Mountain to the lower view and then returning back to the Denning Road Trailhead.
Baker Peak & Griffith Lake - Big Branch Wilderness - VT
zhlédnutí 622Před rokem
A late Fall overnighter in the Big Branch Wilderness in Vermont, hiking up to Baker Peak to check out the view and then down to Griffith Lake for an overnight camp. Also checking out the Peru Peak shelter on the Appalachian Trail. A great little loop to hike with plenty of streams and little waterfalls, and lots of colors.
Alder Lake - The Catskills - NY
zhlédnutí 1,8KPřed rokem
An overnight adventure in the Catskills hiking from Alder Lake and going out and back to Balsam Lake Mountain, then setting up camp in the dark. Then on Day 2, a relaxing tour of several campsites which surround Alder Lake on a dark and rainy day, and a short hike back to the trailhead.
10 - Flattop Mountain - Alaska
zhlédnutí 451Před rokem
Day 10 - On the final day before my flight home, I took a shuttle to the Glen Alps Trailhead, just outside of Anchorage, to hike up to Flattop Mountain for some amazing views and one last look at Alaska.
09 - The Tony Knowles Coastal Trail - Alaska
zhlédnutí 551Před rokem
Day 9 - Back in Anchorage with a whole day and nothing to do, so I rented a bike and rode along the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail, and I got a big surprise.
08 - The Road To Anchorage - Alaska

Day 8 - The long 8 hour drive from McCarthy back to Anchorage with some great scenery along the way.
07 - Packrafting - Alaska
zhlédnutí 133Před rokem
Day 7 - We put on our strange looking backpacks and hike a few miles through the Alaskan wilderness to find a place to launch our inflatable pack rafts and have some fun paddling around near the glaciers.
06 - One Last Hike - Alaska
zhlédnutí 212Před rokem
Day 6 - We pack up our tents and head down to the airstrip to wait for the planes to come and take us back to McCarthy. But we have a few hours before they show up so we take our last hike and get our last looks at Wrangell St Elias National Park with some of the best weather of the whole trip.
05 - Hidden Waterfall - Alaska
zhlédnutí 169Před rokem
Day 5 - We hike up towards the Russell Glacier and Upper Skolai Lake to find a hidden waterfall.
04 - Stream Crossings - Alaska
zhlédnutí 201Před rokem
Day 4 - We hike out from our base camp at Skolai Pass to explore more of Wrangell St Elias National Park, and this time we definitely get our feet wet. Apologies in advance for the audio wind noise. I lost my good microphones, but found them again later. So I'm just using in-camera audio on this hike. Learn more about crossing rivers in Alaska: www.nps.gov/locations/alaska/river-crossing.htm
03 - Backcountry Adventure - Alaska
zhlédnutí 257Před rokem
Day 3 - We leave from McCarthy Airport and fly out into the backcountry of Wrangell St. Elias National Park for 4 days, 3 nights of camping and hiking at a remote landing strip at Skolai Pass. The views on the flight were stunning and the destination is even better as we hike up to the Seven Sisters.

great video
Any bears 🐻 around ?
Awesome video. I'm surprised it got down to 42 F at night. Going in third week of August (2024). Looks like drinking water is fairly easy to come upon throughout the area?
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video. Water was not a problem (except for muddy trails and sketchy water crossings), but yes it got chilly at night, and no campfires allowed. But still absolutely worth it!
happy to say i was your 1,000th subscriber! looks like its worth it, seeing as your videos are well put together and informative. keep up the good work!
Glad you're enjoying the videos, and thanks for the sub!
So glad you are back! My husband and I were talking about you on our West Rim trail hike this past weekend wondering when you’d be back. 😊
Welcome back! Good to see a new video from you.
Glad to see you back! Your videos helped with getting through a difficult period in life. Really missed the commentary in this video, though. It’s always been great and made your content so unique. The intro and map were really cool too. Hope you post more videos in the old format. Looking forward to seeing your new adventures!
Nice way to shoot a trail you have already done. Always enjoy seeing a new post from you. Oh sweet wilderness.
Glad to see you videos
definitely enjoyed this video!!!! curious if there was a lot of trash at the falls? I did the south loop a few days before Memorial Day and there was a ton of trash there!
Your back !!! Yaaaay. Been wondering for months if you were going to make a new video for us to enjoy. Thank you 😊
The view from those lookouts was gorgeous as any I've ever seen. The Catskills are wilder than their reputation. I hope more people decide to leave NYC for good and settle in the Catskills permanently. It would be nice to see the place make a comeback.
I agree, this is still one of my all-time favorite hikes in the Catskills. The views are just amazing.
Yay, you're back! I missed your vlogs!!
Good to see you posting again. I think you hit the nail on the head by omitting excessive talking, ego, etc.. Thanks dude.
Great to see you back out on the trail. Did miss your trail tracking app. Thanks for video
Great video. I prefer to hear nature rather than music! I was backpacking there in May also😊 It's such a beautiful area 😍
I know the area very well and that’s one hell of a hike. Great Vid
Thanks for the awesome walkthrough! I've been doing easier overnight hikes from Caledonia up to Big Flat Tower and back for the past few Springs. Another, nice scenic route I like, if you want to make it a little more of a loop or have more campsite options, is to cut off onto Greenwood Rd. to Beaver Trail (around the huge lake) to Rocky Knob trail. Rocky Knob has some really nice, piney, open spots to camp. You do miss the Quarry Gap shelter etc. which is a highlight of this section, but you get a little more variety of Michaux.
Thank you for posting this video! I'm hiking it starting this Sunday and on the fence on whether I want to use my new Lone Peak 7s or the Topo Trailventure 2's I used last year. It looks like there's not much in the way of bouldering or rocky climbs - is that accurate? The Lone Peaks are notoriously bad at gripping wet rock, and it's going to rain a bunch.
You are correct, there's not much bouldering or rocky climbs on this trail. Just be careful crossing those streams though. I had to learn the hard way. LOL
You make great videos man and i hope to see more of your adventures, i was thinking of going up Algonquin through the avalanche path and you showed me just how bad it is, not a trail you would want to go down on and if you plan to go up need good hiking shoes.
I hiked Algonquin many years ago from the other direction and returned via the Avalanche Lake catwalk along the cliff side. Too bad you missed that as it’s very beautiful. I did most of my hiking in the White Mountains and in the Mt. Kahtadin area. Your cinematography and editing are excellent and I especially liked how you edited out the selfie stick and camera. I’d never seen anyone else do that. Happy trails!
Great video. Very well put together, enjoyed your calm and wholesome demeanor throughout the video. Cinematography s top notch as well. I am a native to the Adirondacks and I am planning to hike Algonquin in July. Nice job!
I have gone hunting at the lake for deer , a couple of times over the years . And also fished the lake . It’s a beautiful lake . It’s nice when it’s snowing… Very picturesque……
Let’s talk about the fireplace license plate thing ? Wowza ! Great video all around, much appreciated!! 💯🤟
Love the Adirondacks … great video. Rocks, rocks and rocks, but rewarding views!
great job!
Been dying to get back to PA. Did Minister Creek a couple years ago and want to do a longer trail. Thanks for the great info.
What equipment are you using to film and microphone. Your quality is great!
That hurt just watching
I know that area well, in the 50s and 60s my dad belonged to Camp just south of Trout Run Rd on Rt 44, And have visited the area a lot. Wish I was @25 so I could Hike the trail. But I would stash supplies where trail crosses Rt 44 so you dont have to carry supplies for to 5 days..
Great video! Going soon, same route. AllTrails doesn't show much water on Day 1 of your trip until close to your camp. Were there other useful water sources along your day 1 route?
Well, it shows wetlands but not any creeks... Is there enough depth or flow in the wetlands for filling up a filter bag?
@@wstewart5532 We didn't see anything after the first water crossing on Day 1, until we got to camp. The northern part of the loop is pretty dry.
@@downtoearthadventures1528 Thanks! That really helps. How much water did you pack for that first stretch? I was thinking 1.5 to 2 liters of water?
@@wstewart5532 I carried 2 liters, and it was enough. As long as it's not 90 degrees outside you should be fine, and the terrain is not super challenging in that section.
What a nice hike. Man I can not what for Spring and opportunity to get back out into the woods. I get out a little in the Winter but the woods are so much more interesting and beautiful when they are teaming with life.
Great
Wow!
Awsome!
Great!
Nice.
Very nice 👌.
Really enjoyed your video. Looking for easy lake hikes in the Catskills and Adirondacks. If you have any suggestions, that would be great.
Another good lake in the Catskills is Echo Lake and Overlook Mountain. You can hike to the mountain and see an amazing view, then go down to Echo Lake nearby. I have some videos I made there back in 2019.
More fun! By the way, I love the intro and the editing! You definitely put a lot of effort and creativity into your videos.
That looks so fun!
Great video! Thanks for taking us along! What equipment are you using for audio and video? External mike? And what's the program you used for the terrain-view map?
And the Algonquin trail is beautiful!
Thanks! The main camera is a DJI Pocket 2, with a few shots from an Insta360 One X2. The external mic is a pair of Roland CS-10EM binaural headphones, and I'm using a Zoom H1 audio recorder set for wave audio. Editing is DaVinci Resolve and I use Google Earth Pro for the maps.
@@downtoearthadventures1528 Thanks so much! The sound and clarity of your videos is great! And I really enjoy how your video came across as more about the trail, and less about you (if that makes sense). Those were some STEEP incline/declines! You've definitely inspired me to get my a$$ to the Adirondacks! I believe you said you're from the Philly area - I'm not that far from you - Hunterdon County, NJ. Have you ever hiked in the Pine Barrens? Not as "fun" with zero elevation and rock scrambling, but seriously beautiful (just don't go in the height of summer). I'm looking forward to watching more of your videos - and more inspiration.
Love the end with the down under view of the outcrop. Did catch the fire on your license plate. Nice touch. Love the 3D trail view and how you make your camera stick disappear. You have some of the best quality hiking videos on YT for sure. Thanks for sharing and producing.
You should have way more subscribers. I don’t think there are many vloggers out there with such well done creative videos! You should be proud. Thank you for entertaining us with your videos. 💯
I really enjoyed this video. I've hiked this trail several times when I was a kid (25+ years ago) and I'll be running it in Oct. This has brought back some real good memories and has been very helpful in my planning. I've never brought a camera with me on me on any of my races. I don't plan on doing a documentary like you have but I'd like to take some pictures and short videos along the way. What would you recommend for a camera? Thanks
For this hike I used a DJI Pocket 2 camera. It has very good stabilization when you are running or hiking (but it's not waterproof so bring an umbrella). Otherwise I would recommend either a GoPro or just use your phone.
What an area!! Spent alot of yrs. hunting the Hammersley area. We came off McConnell Rd. and walked down the trail called the Hammersley which took us down to the main fork of the creek. Twin Sisters Trail shot up the other side heading towards Kettle Creek. The 2nd day of buck season we were walking down the snow covered trail for about 40 minutes when we seen light coming up the trail. Here 2 guys came from Rt.144 onto Twin Sisters and got lost. Then walked around all night aimlessly. We gave them some food and water and assured them staying on the trail would get them out. Not many would venture to the Main Fork and if they would follow it down to Cross Fork it would be miles and miles of hiking.
Thank you for this really excellent and detailed video! Alder Lake is on my to do list and this is the most comprehensive info I have found for my preparation. Thx!!
Love the content, Friend. I was born and raised in the Roxborough section of Philly and we walked straight down from Gorgas lane right into the Bridal path. Many a great childhood memories hiking the 5 mile stretch on both sides. We lived in the city, but, had a terrific suburban lifestyle. I keep telling myself I have to go back there.
Great video. The sight of the Marcy dome always was majestic. I don't think I ever saw Algonquin hiked from Lake Colden.
Best video yet of Dolly Sods. Great camera work. Great editing. Good work whoever did this. Every other DS video has been sub par. Excellent
