Greetings from Western Australia. I began my academic career at Luton Primary School in 1945. This video has brought back so many pleasant memories. Yes I went sledging on Darland banks, and yes I remember well those little shops. Sherbert for one penny lol. Thanks for showing.
I lived there for a year back in 2004. Within a week of moving in some guy got stabbed on my door step. I remember some woman was found dead in a freezer aswell in one of the shops or something like that. Wild times.
The Name Is Beautiful but not the same thing I can imagine when you are a bit late today but I'm going out to get the car to work out e I need a new phone to get a bit more than you to get a job done and have to do a test for you to do.
An old local of mine back in the late 60's, do you remember when M&D tried to change their blinds to show a new bus stop and they were made to change it back to the 'Tam O'Shanter' as they were told it was a landmark in peoples minds
This must be older than 10yrs ago (when the video was shot i mean) as that pub that got replaced by the open rice chinese takeaway, well that takeaway was there at least as early as 2003
This is so interesting and I learned so much. I drive through the arches every day and always sense 'a time that came before' and didn't think I'd ever come across that much detail and photos let alone a first hand account! 😊
Great video! Awesome to see the past life of Luton, from 100+ years ago, to when this was filmed, so much has changed in the last 10 it looks incredibly different! Wish I’d seen it in its hay day!
Fascinating! Thanks! My Granddad was born in those gypsy caravans on Ash Tree Lane. His surname was Butcher. The site had an actual name of its own but I can't remember off the top of my head what it was...? 🤔
I bought my house at the top of Canterbury Street, (Crosley Rd), in 1986 and lived there for 34 years knowing nothing of the Gypsy legacy. I often wonder now what else I missed out on, thank you for the fascinating video.
I was also born at All Saints hospital in 1958 and went back to work for a cleaning agency at the hospital during the summer holidays in 1975 to earn some money whilst l was a student.
Anyone who went to Glencoe Junior School, will remember getting on a Pilchards coach to go swimming at Buckmore Park in the mid 70's. Those coaches stank and so did the swimming pool.
I remember Buckmore Park swimming pool. I lived in Rochester back then and as kids we'd take a trek up there once in a while. It was better than the freezing cold open air pool next to the river Medway. 😅
I used to drop my neighbours juniors off at Glencoe School on my way to St John Fishers School in the early 70's. We also were transported to swimming at Buckmore Park once a week for a term of swimming lessons.

And they say the ‘good old days’ are politically incorrect.. looks a lot damn nicer than Luton 2023. Hell on earth
Just spotted me smack in the middle of the 1965 school pic! fond memories of 'The Square' in Henry St in the late 50's and 60's
Was there a milk station in or near gove Rd Luton Chatham then it was made in to a school what I heard

Brilliant and interesting , I live near the Luton Arches and often wondered when the Arches where built for the railway line. 1857

Excellent video , I’ve lived in Medway all my life and knew nothing of the gypsys living on Ashtree Lane . Very enlightening
Amazing Vid/Interviews - My Mum Dad were there - Brazil/Eastwood - Thankyou for uploading this.
Really great video. Lovely to see the area as it was before, thanks for making this!
I've lived down here for 2 years and think this is fascinating
Watched parts 1 & 2. Makes me appreciate the town a lot more, shame it's lost its strong community spirit.
It’s all intentional Demolish & destroy anything that has spirit & character. People must realise the all too familiar theme
I was listening to this today. Medway Story open.spotify.com/album/3wICeGq90tuW1JisKDVMnN?si=HiPxbRQ8ReeqaNudUwNYyg
