That’s good velocities I’m ruaning 180’s in 7SAUM getting 2850 fps 24”barrel
Miroku makes some quality stuff. I have a 66, 73, and an 86. But I won’t buy another with that wart of a safety. Kinda wish I’d have gotten the Browning version of the 86 that didn’t have the safety.
Do you recommend H4831SC for the 175 STGK?
John M. Browning, Moses
I'm just gonna say if ur shooting copper. It should be 3000 fps if ur shooting 200yrds plus
I have to disagree on one point. Multiple firings won’t normalize your head spacing after sizing. The brass work hardens with each firing and your cases will develop different degrees of hardness. If you wish to reduce shoulder bump variances after sizing… seriously consider annealing your brass. Annealing will also produce more consistent neck tension which contributes to improved precision. Cheers!
Trying different powders and different bullets is meaningful. Seeking flat spots in the powder charge vs MV graph is meaningless. IMO the optimum charge weight is one that is below pressure whilst yielding a case fill somewhere in the 99% to 105% range. Short fat cartridges appear to be more sensitive to charges below 100% fill compared to long skinny cartridges. My 300WSM with 175gr LRX really likes a compressed charge of H100V yielding consistently low SD’s. I used to run H4350 with 168TTSX with charges well below 100% fill but could not achieve consistency with that load. Cheers!
Howdy friend… I would advise forgetting about the velocity ladder flat spots… they are meaningless. Also 0.2gr increments is really tight. I have tried these high volume load development methods that you describe only to learn that the only benefit to burning through this much ammo is to break in the virgin barrel. I use way simpler methods now and avoid fine development until there is at least 100-200rds through the barrel and all the new brass is fire formed. Cheers!
Safety is ugly
I’m going to try Retumbo , Accurate Magpro, with the Nosler 150 and Sierra 175
Now verify each side of that seating depth by 1 thousandths increments over 4 thousandths total on each side to find how wide it is! They are typically 6 thousandths wide! Once verified seat to longest seating depth and your good for 6 thousandths of throat erosion! 👍
6.8 Western, it's going to come back strong..
Thank you for a great video regarding lever actions! I recently acquired a Chiapas 1992 because it more accurately represented Winchester’s original rather than their current version. It’s just me but I don’t like Rossi’s cross-bolt safety and Winchesters ghastly orange top tang button. I can live with Chiapas historically correct half cock safety (plus the other one between my ears). 😊!
Oops. I meant 1892!
Now that were getting a reality check on actual 7 prc velocities (over-stated), the 6.8 should get a bounce.

That's impressive for the 175gr pills. I am currently using some 160gr maker bullets, thr 162 gr hammer and the 165gr nosler. From the 165gr I am averaging just about 2870 fps out of a 20 inch barrel, the 160 and 162gr copper bullets are pushing closer to 2925 fps on average. Groups are around. 5 inch at a 100 yards.
Where do I fi d your community page
On you 63gr, h1000- what seating depth where you using on the lower left right target
Lower left was 62gr 2.311. Only 63 gr group wasn’t shown at the very end (.596”) at 2.317. Check out my community page to see some group labels.
Beautiful setup!! Congrats
ADG Brass is coming and Lapua 300 WSM is already available to convert.
I am running a 24" XPR. Breaking in with Winchester Copper impact to get some brass. Hoping to work up some hunting loads using Barnes 155 gr. LRX for moose / bear and Barnes 129 gr. LRX for my Whitetail. Keep the great content coming!
Wow... 175gain bullets at 2900 fps.... Same speed I get with my hand loaded 7mm PRC! But... I only can dream about that 0.5 inch group 😢
Odd, ive seen others with the same factory load out of an XPR 24" barrel shooting over box velocity. Goes to show you should always verify speeds in your rifle.
I’ve gotten 2920 63.5 gr with retumbo no pressure if you haven’t could try that. 64gr yielded 2948fps I hit definite pressure at 2996 fps with 64.5 gr
Ok so we need a 100% REBOOT for all pew-tubers. We just wanted to see 0.88 MOA to start.
Rossi 92 owner here……. Love it, smooth Action in 357. I got a good price on it, but they are more expensive now.
I'm testing my new 270-7PRC. As of last weekend I'm at 3220fps with a 170 Berger VLD. Pleased so far. No pressure signs yet. Just need to work on some groups and fine tune the powder charges now. Great video. Love this content. I'm shooting an 8 twist with this one. Berger's site indicates the 170 EOL will stabilize in a 9 twist. I have 2 more barrels on the way, one is 8.5, the other a 9. In theory I'll get better velocities with the slower twists.
Yeah... Velocity is one thing. 0.5 inch group is another... My 7PRC can be hot loaded to 3000+ fps for 175 grain bullets but the grouping is #OMG 😢 I will always choose accuracy over speed even if it means going 200 fps slower...
@@MrGoMario I prefer velocity plus quarter MOA. If a built rifle can't do it I sell it. Half MOA is excellent but I don't think you should have to trade velocity for precision. I always strive for both. I would sell all of my 7PRCs if I had to settle for 2800fps with a 175 grain bullet to get half MOA. A 280Ai will do that with a lot less powder
That’s a great group for factory ammo mate, cheers Yogi 🤙✌️
Nice work and nice data, thanks for sharing !
Interesting results! I'm surprised you were so low on the factory load. I have a 20" barrel and run suppressed, but had 2841, 2847, and 2867 for speeds.
Yeah could be the conditions/cold bore or just this LOT. I get box posted with 162gr copper impact but with 175gr factory just 75fps less. Good group though!
Amazing group for factory ammo! I think it was about 50 degrees and around 5000' elevation. I have a few boxes, so I'll try to remember to take a sample from each. Thanks for sharing.
Yeah I've seen faster too. Winchester XPR shoots over advertised velocity.
What model of rifle do you have in that 20” barrel? I have a CA Ridgline FFT with a 20” barrel, but I’ve always wondered how much drop I’d see from a 22”.
@@jimedick9496 Ridgeline FFT also. I have not checked how much the suppressor changes my velocities.
Is this a Browning with a 1:7.5 rifling twist?
Yep 7.5 twist
Which browning is it
You should try the badlands bulldozer-2 150 gr with a G7 BC of .350.

Right on. You are now pushing 7PRC reality with a 24” Vs marketing from Hornady and what they print. Anxious to see groups looking at accuracy. Appreciated!!!

@@foubert45 - Just did. Right on. Curious how OAL and depth plays out here now. Sharing your experience with the 6.8 is appreciated!!
Thank you. Pretty boring ladder but we have to do them. Looking forward to a bit heavier charge and the other half with accuracy.
John MOSES Browning, not John A Browning….you said it wrong more than once. Let’s honor our Father properly.
Like and subscribe people, it cost nothing, hit the like on the way in, cheers people 🤙✌️
Great setup! I just picked up a rifle in 6.8 western and I'm excited to put that round through its paces.
What is your barrel length? I have a 26” barrel on my 6.8 western xbolt hells canyon long range. I’m reloading the 175 sierra tgk’s with 6.5 StaBall powder and easily getting 3000 fps without pressure signs or compressed loads.
24” and I just got up to 2930FPS without pressure
