Anyone who (mistakenly) thinks the 1950s was an idyllic time in the U.S. should watch this vintage newscast--especially the reports on school desegregation.

This was about a month after NBC lauched The Huntley-Brinkley Report with Chet Huntley and David Brinkley to compete against Daly on ABC and Douglas Edwards on CBS.

Fantastic find!!! I have searched for the original launch broadcast for a long time and the footage here of Chuck von Fremd doing the live coverage, albeit on tape during the evening news, is a great bit of history. My guess is CBS interrupted regular broadcasting to show the launch live as many accounts of the disaster cite the fact that America saw it live. I have not been able to find that but this will suffice. Thanks so much.
