    Hey Jonas! I know you’ve been busy with projects and that’s a good thing. But when you make your return to CZcams, I was wondering if you could make a video about the different platforms composers use. Specifically which platforms to use for live online spotting sessions/video reviews with directors, or live Cubase sessions online with other composers. That sort of thing.

    • @jonasfriedman

      Sure thing 🤘I believe on one project we used a software called moxion - on others I’ve used zoom and the game I’m wrapping up uses Google meet and discord - it’s pretty straight forward where someone ( usually an editor) shares their application with video and audio for everyone else to see and hear. Will go into more detail when we’re back up and running

      I’m not sure I’m understanding correctly but if you’re asking if there’s any legal issue with using sound packs - there is not as long as they obtained legally (purchase through the sellers store) and you use them according to their license agreement. Most are royalty free and created with the intention that composers and producers will use them for music creation in combination with other instruments

    Awesome video, you have one of the most binge-worthy youtube channels! I have one question about, when using loops and samples in this way, are you at all worried about tripping up content ID systems? It seems you're mangling the sounds enough to avoid this, but do you pay careful attention to making sure you've altered every sound you use in some way?

    • @jonasfriedman
      @jonasfriedman Před 7 dny

      I appreciate the kind words. I got this question a lot when the video was released …the sounds that I’m using are completely fair used due to the license you get when purchasing the sample packs from the company. You can use them in a composition just like I’m demonstrating without any worry of issues …it’s just like buying a sample library that has loops in it except these are standalone wave files.

    I am confident that most people here have the skills necessary for composing FAST, but the issue is that many do not secure enough gigs to make this ability truly worthwhile. This is what I believe we should be addressing.

    • @jonasfriedman
      @jonasfriedman Před 17 dny

      I appreciate this comment. In my personal experience of working on composing teams and then having my own team when necessary, I have found a lot of composers struggle to score to picture as efficiently as may be necessary for large projects. Sometimes a single tv series can have 30-35 minutes of music that needs to be delivered in maybe 5 days and that makes cue turn around a very difficult task at the professional level. That said you are absolutely correct that securing gigs is an equally difficult task and I address that in other videos. however, I felt this video was important because many composers I know have secured gigs, but then struggled to deliver everything required due to the amount of music and turn around time required.

    I have got a quick question for you Jonas. For cinema music or orchestral music this seems like a no brainer. How about for lyrics based songs that use may be two or three instruments. A percussion or two. A Piano or Gutar. Some strings. May be a banjo. Basic pop, folk type songs? Is this still a good choice? Because buying nice instruments is also pretty expensive. For example the guitar VSTs from Kontakt are 100$ at least each.

    • @jonasfriedman
      @jonasfriedman Před 23 dny

      Great question. I’d say there’s definitely still stuff in here that will be super useful for songwriting - drum set, synths, bass guitars and so on. While its definetly a no brainer IMHO for scoring work, being a music producer of any genre these days is about having lots of different tools to get the job done and Musio i feel does that really well. I would still recommend at the very least doing a month long trial and seeing how much you use it for your particular genre or style of music creation but I think most producers will find it to be pretty useful as I have (I don’t just do scoring work as I’m a songwriter as well 🙃)

    Thank you so much for this video. From what I understand, I must improve my skills and have really something to offer to apply for an assistant position, so it can't be my first or second or even my fifth job. My question is: what would you start with? What are the people you'd contact to get your very first gig?

    • @jonasfriedman
      @jonasfriedman Před měsícem

      I’d focus on 2 things and contacting 2 types of people: 1) people at the same level as you. Don’t worry about the money, just be a creator looking to work with other creators, and you happen to have an expertise in music rather than lighting or costumes. So this means student films, super indie stuff, just enjoy the process of learning with others and having fun. 2) find a way to be valuable to someone who is doing what you want to do and at the level you want to be doing it at. Even if that means getting coffee or knowing how to make someone a website or whatever, get in the room and find an opportunity to simply prove that you’re a reliable hardworking person. From there you can work your way up to providing value in a way that you want to (ie writing music). A lot of people seem to forget that a career is not something where you start by doing exactly what you want to do. It’s a ladder where at the bottom there’s more odd jobs that as you work your way up things begin to focus into the more fun and exciting / creative tasks like writing music.
