Here in the US, county mosquito abatement programs are still introducing these fish into abandoned swimming pools. For various reasons, when people stop taking care of their pools (even if they're still living in the house) such as when the old pumps stop working and/or chemicals run out, the pool turns dark with algae. The county agency folks spot these black pools with aerial surveys or just scanning through Google satellite view, and they go around to check on the status. They officially release these fish into the pools that are holding water enough to breed mosquitoes. These are small fish, they could certainly escape via leaks or curious kids into local creeks. I understand the fish aren't all that effective at clearing all the larvae in such large bodies of water, and that neither does throwing in mosquito dunks or granules on a regular basis. Getting the water to moving again is supposed to help the most by preventing the adults from laying egg rafts. ETA: I understand these fish harrass and fin nip other fish, including much larger fish like goldfish. I might have tried introducing white cloud mountain fish or rice fish, but not when these fish would kill them. I'm currently looking for a better fish for the pool conditions, one that predate on these introduced pests. Suggestions welcome!

Hello sir, I am really hoping you will be able to help me as no one has the answer thus far! I have some rainbowfish that look exactly like spotted blue eye or Pseudomugil gertrudae (if you're looking at a picture where they're more light blue all over their fins at least) now they're orange where the yellow is.. Do you know the name of them?

Cory should have my big just regular Walmart bought goldfish. Name of course is Goldie, male or female 🤷🏼‍♀️? Needs a bigger tank that I can’t afford. Age over 10, don’t know their lifespan! 👍🏻

Rainbows are my favorites . They’re gorgeous without the aggression issues of cichlids . You can put them with smaller , peaceful fish and they don’t harass them .

These boulders are gorgeous 😍. I notice that you ‘launched’ the new scape without rinsing the substrate after the old one. Aren't you worried about the consequences of leaking excess elements from the disturbed substrate into the water column?

It is an adaptation of existing mass production systens, nothing new, but works...

Eric, don't hate on the snails! Just crush them up and feed to your Corydoras like you did when you were little haha! Love Eric Bodrock! Do you just keep all males and females together? WOnt they auto breed in that tank itself?

Well here we are: three months later and I figured I needed to rewatch this. Turns out, my Platies (see below) are the same neon orange swordtails you guys showed at Dean's - I think in his office. And now they're all sexed up. About two months ago, some were just starting to show signs of being male and I gave a bunch away. Now what's left - if they'd hold still long enough to tell for sure - are all males. They're spectacular, but I really need to get some females out of them or I'm going to have to move on to something else. Raising the temperature would be easy enough, so I guess maybe I could experiment with trying to lower the pH. I'll have to see how that's done safely - and just for the one tank. I read one of the comments below about pond-raising them outside. We're comming into high summer here and it definitely gets hot! 120F+ mid-summer! Then all I'd need to do would be to drop the pH. Anyway, just thought I'd check in and maybe if things have changed for you you could do a followup video. Have a fantastic week ahead! Cheers! ~Ron

Loads of great information Harland! A tip I learned when 🎉attempting to breed them is the males are only about the size of a large marble, while the females grow twice that size. After watching ur video I am super excited to try out your floating mesh gadget. Unfortunately I am not good at remembering to mist them, and I have had poor results. Also, I think my Koi like to eat the babies before their shells are hard.

Mentioned here was feeding egg yolk before and it polute the water fast, what are you feeding now that doesn't in same rate?

New school: Semi-undergravel filters? Basically a UGF in a portable tray, pot, or fabric pot that can be removed from the tank or pond without having to disassemble the whole entire tank. :)
