Impressive Views at Beautiful Jackass Lake | Overnight Stay in the Ansel Adams Wilderness
With our backpacks and fishing gear ready to go, my buddy Pierce and I will start our hike right outside of the Ansel Adams Wilderness and make our way up to one of my favorite lakes. After a short and scenic hike we'll arrive at beautiful Jackass Lake (the official but unfortunate name). We found an awesome campsite close to the lake, with the bonus of an amazingly vast view.
Hope you enjoyed, thanks for watching!

Hammock Camping Alone at Yosemite's Vogelsang Lake

Once again I'm up in the Tuolumne area of Yosemite and I'm on the Rafferty Creek Trail. During this trip I'll plan to camp at Vogelsang Lake, which is a beautiful high elevation lake south of Tuolumne Meadows. I made a pretty big mistake of forgetting and leaving an important piece of camping gear back at home, but I was still able to spend the night and enjoy some beautiful high elevation scen...
Easy hike outside of Yosemite's Eastern gate | Bennettville Ghost Town + Abandoned Mine

The family and I stumbled upon Bennettville, a ghost town and abandoned mine just outside of Yosemite National Park. This was a mining town that began operations in 1860 and after producing no silver of consequence, Bennettville turned into a ghost town by 1890. Two of the Cedar structures in the town were restored in 1993, making for an interesting hike through remnants of older times. Hiking ...

We'll be fighting off the mosquitoes for most of the trip, but the views and fishing make it all worth it. We'll also enjoy some Trout as we catch and cook our dinner. Thank you! When it come to following rules I was inspired by a Grand Canyon river rafting trip I went on in 2023 (before I started YT). The Grand Canyon takes "leave no trace" to a whole new level and during my 8 day trip I saw zero trace of other people at the campsites. Other than footprints in the sand. It would have really changed my experience going down the river if I saw trash everywhere. So I try to pass that on. Thank you for watching!

      @XLOutdoorsman Před 26 dny

      In Yosemite National Park you must camp at least 100 feet away from water sources. Mainly streams, rivers and lakes. There are a few reasons why, but I think the main concerns are water quality and letting wildlife access the water sources without having to go around campsites.

    I remember hiking to vogelsang from Tuolumne meadows and it certainly felt a lot longer than 7 miles.

    • @XLOutdoorsman
      @XLOutdoorsman Před měsícem

      Routing it on Gaia GPS says Vogelsang Lake is 8.1 miles from the Tuolumne Wilderness Center. The metal signs that the park service puts at trail head/junctions are usually pretty accurate, so I'm curious where they measured the 6.3 mileage to. "Tuolumne Meadows" is pretty vague I suppose.

    I know you've got your net for the mosquitos, but would any amount of spray help against that many mosquitos? I dont know if itd be less annoying than the net olus having to wear long sleeves and pants all the time.

    • @XLOutdoorsman
      @XLOutdoorsman Před měsícem

      In my opinion, spray helps with preventing most bites and can keep the mosquitoes a little further away from you. But a head net, long sleeve/pants, and gloves will do a better job at preventing any bites. And shoes of course. I've heard some of the mosquitoes in Alaska could care less if you have bug spray on or not. You can only ward off those mosquitoes with 100 "deet" spray (deet is the main repellent in bug spray)

      I'd say no sleeping bag. Getting a cold and bad nights sleep in the backcountry is no fun. Mosquitoes can be dealt with the correct clothing, spray, and head net. Great question though I had to think about that one for a minute!

    Great job Cody! This is my FAVORITE XL Outdoorsman video yet! You did a great job of sharing your experience in an honest, entertaining and educational way! I've always said it's not an adventure without a little adversity andd/or blood, and this one's got it with a sorta-planned bivouac at 10,000', DARN COLD/NO TENT/NO SLEEPING BAG/NO SLEEP! This video comes with all the "now expected" clips: how to get a last minute backcountry permit, a cold water stream dunk, camp set-up including the luxury CHAIR (LOL), another DELICIOUS PEAK MEAL dinner, wildlife sightings, amazing scenery, and successful fly fishing with lightweight Tenkara fly-rod. What an awesome spot to experience such SOLITUDE! I applaud your respect for wilderness regulations and the natural environment! It's been about 30 since I was at Vogelsang. I recall one time with my friend Jeff J. who had a serious case of ALTITUDE SICKNESS. His heartbeat hit 240 bpm while resting in our tent at 10,000' and we had to pack up in the pouring rain in the middle of the night and head to lower elevation! So proud of you for pursuing this passion of yours and sharing! Dad
