CKG (Ex. Montgomery/Eastern) Traction Elevators at Bay West Centre in Halifax NS
Modded Montgomery/Eastern traction elevators at Bay West Centre in Halifax NS. These elevators were modded in 2019 by CKG. This building was formerly the Hudson’s Bay department store connected to the former West End Mall; now Mumford Professional Centre/Halifax Shopping Centre Annex. The store opened as the replacement Simpsons store in August 1983 and was converted into Hudson’s Bay in August 1986, then closed in late April 2011. Filmed on 06/07/24.

I'd say this is a significant improvement.
Very much so! Only unchanged thing is the floor.
Nice video. I went to this super store last summer I believe it was if I remember correctly. I rode this elevator and I don’t remember the fan being on. Thanks again for filming.
My pleasure! I took your suggestion! Lol. I was also already aware of it.
Great video! Late 2004 this elevator was installed.
Perfect! Thank you for the info!
Did this elevator get modded? Because the last time I was here in May of last year, the day the wildfire started, it was a Dover Impulse. Awesome video by the way! 💯💯
Definitely modded then! And thank you!
This would be an Endura. Synergy is Traction
I’ll be real with you, it was only a guess! Lol. I knew it wasn’t a Signa4 or Aurora. Synergy is only traction? This one is awfully quite. Every Atlantic Superstore elevator I’ve ever ridden was hydraulic.
@@artselevatorsgamingbeyond6644 yup synergy is only traction.
Riding in any escalators or elevators and even trains are truly amazing and stunning
Nice elevator 👍
Yeah, a nice vintage for sure!
Very nice Otis Series 1 elevator and great video 👍
Nice vintage elevator 👍
That's quite a nice Otis Series 1. I love the turquoise cab interior.
I agree! It’s quite a beauty! I’m also the first one to film it! Lol.
This is the only other TK Aurora elevator that I know of in Nova Scotia compared to the glass one that you just upload
They have them in the Health Park near me. I’ve definitely seen others.
This definitely screams 80s or early early 90s series 1.
Could be 1997, with the malls renovation. Not sure.
Pretty nice installation, too bad the motor isn't as loud as Mic Mac Mall because both of them are pretty similar. Really the only difference is the panel and floor number placement because the other one is TK Northern instead of just northern
Exactly! All very true facts! It also used to have a chime. Spring Garden Place has one too.
Always been curious what the elevator was in this building. There is a store called Michael's connected directly beside it isn't it?
Yes, I’ve always wondered the same myself! I’m surprised that I was the first one to film this one, along with 2 other elevators I filmed today …. Otis Series 1 at Spryfield Shopping Centre and an Otis Series 1 at Atlantic Superstore in Port Hawkesbury, and I was the first to film the Otis Series 1 at Atlantic Superstore in Bayers Lake BLIP yesterday. Same goes for Lower Sackville’s location. And yes, Michael’s and Old Navy are below it.
@@artselevatorsgamingbeyond6644 this used to be an old furniture store location for The Brick, and then it closed and now worldwide furniture is in there. I really want to film this elevator, because my mother goes to Michael's because she likes scrapbooking and that's where she gets all of her stuff most the time. So I'm thinking the next time we go to this Michael's location I'm gonna film this elevator, especially since the weather is getting nicer for the summer season.
@@JordanLoweElevaToursCanada Yes! You definitely should. I saw that Michaels in Highland Square Mall closed, unfortunately. And yes, The Brick is now next door where Sears Home used to be. Along with a Distribution Centre in Dartmouth, which also joined with a store at one point.
@@artselevatorsgamingbeyond6644 yeah I've had this elevator on my radar for a long time, and I've just never had the time to film it. Now as for Michael's in my local area. I don't know why they decided to close the Highland Square, Mall location in my area, in fact Michaels is still paying for the property rent in the mall, but yet they decided to close the store in my mom and there was still quite a fair amount of customers at my location. The real question is "Why did they do this?" and the truth is I don't know it's just gonna be one of those unsolved mysteries.
@@JordanLoweElevaToursCanada You’re kidding! They’ve been closed since like 2020, and they are still paying rent?! That’s unbelievable! I also love Michaels, as I love art!
Awesome video! Next time you should film the elevator at the superstore in Antigonish! It’s on Market Street and it has an Otis series 6! Just a request.
Yes, I know. I was at that one recently. I will film it on the way home from Halifax tomorrow if I can!
I just got home from Halifax, I live in Sydney. I knew I was going to film it as I was driving home, but then I had to call and book and oil change appointment, then filming the elevator at Atlantic Superstore in Antigonish completely slipped my mind! Lol. I did however stop and film the Otis Series 1 at Atlantic Superstore in Port Hawkesbury.
@@artselevatorsgamingbeyond6644 That’s ok. You don’t have to film it if you don’t want to if you’re too busy.
@@Megaelevatorsandeditz72 I do want to. I’ll be filming all the Atlantic Superstore elevators all the way from Cape Breton to HRM

Of all the Atlantic Superstores I was in, they both had Series 1s too
Yeah, usually Otis. My local one in Sydney River is also Otis Series 1, which I’ve filmed in the past, along with Lower Sackville’s. I kind of beat myself up for not filming the one in Bedford’s when I was out there the other day. Lol.
@@artselevatorsgamingbeyond6644The one in Antigonish has an Otis Series 6. You should film it if you’re out that way.
@@Megaelevatorsandeditz72 I’m actually there right now! LOL. I’m helping my girlfriend move out of her dorm.
@@artselevatorsgamingbeyond6644 Lol 😂
I filmed this elevator back in January and I almost got stuck in it. The back door failed to open for like 15 seconds.
That’s weird. Good thing it didn’t happen!
This is the best elevator in Halifax. Every time I go to that superstore I always ride it. I’m thinking of doing a retake of it on my channel because my first one wasn’t that good.
You should!
Originally there were 2 elevators side by side here. I have no idea why they took one out.
Really? That’s weird! Thank you for that information! Did they remove it when they remodelled it into The Village At Bayers Road?
@@artselevatorsgamingbeyond6644 They actually removed it when it was still a shopping centre before The Village renovation.
@@myotismon767 Right. I’m aware that it was a great mall! I didn’t realize I was born for the Zellers until last year. Lol. I was born in 2003 and Zellers closed at the end of 2006, so I would have been 3.5 years old.
That's a pretty nice elevator. Kinda reminded me of the one at my Junior High School but was a Dover installed in 1996.

@@myotismon767 You’re very welcome!
Nice. I'm glad you made it here. This place has some pretty cool original elevators. The glass ones are always my favorite.
Thank you. I agree with every bit of that. There’s also a lot of repainting going on throughout the building, TD Bank moved to a stand-alone location, Slim Gyms is gone, and Stone Hearth Bakery is now Mint’s Cafe & Catering. There’s always changes going on there, with different tenants going in and out. I must say, it’s a pretty confusing layout, but I got it in a heartbeat. Lol.
@@artselevatorsgamingbeyond6644 I remember that bakery. I used to buy coffee there a lot.
@@myotismon767 Right on! I’ve never had it myself.
23 years old and still running great. Gotta love how solid elevators from that era are.
100% agreed! One of my favourite elevators by far! What year was Bayers Road Centre’s Northern glass elevator installed?
@@artselevatorsgamingbeyond6644 I'm not sure on the exact date but I would guess anywhere between late 90s to close to the year this one was installed.
@@myotismon767 I figured. It sounds like Bayers Road Shopping Centre’s renovations began in 1997 with new ownership and was renamed “The Village At Bayers Road”. They then got new ownership again in 2006, Zellers closed at the end of December 2006, and they would rename it Bayers Road Centre in 2009ish. Then as we both know, new office buildings were built where both Zellers and Dominion/Best For Less/IGA once were. The Zellers building became the CGI Building, with 4 smaller levels added above.
I love the design of this elevator. How the glass doors overlook the atrium actually makes it kind of thrilling. I don't really like the fixtures all that much. I would have preferred Kone used their own fixtures or even Innovation Bruiser with blue lighting.
Yeah, I agree! Very nice glass. The fixtures really weren’t what I expected myself. But they’re all good.
@@artselevatorsgamingbeyond6644 I'll definitely have to make a trip out here again now that the renovations are all finished.
@@myotismon767 Yes! You definitely should. They are awesome.
I'm actually surprised with this elevator, it was my very first eco-disc installation I've ever experienced. I've heard a lot of mixed feelings about Kone installations throughout the elevator community. But I was quite surprised with the first impressions this eco disc had to offer. Although I have noticed one of the floor numbers on one of the panels it's completely dead, and I've noticed a little bit of fraying on one of the cables which I believe is connected to the safety governor I'm not 100% sure, but I do believe it is time for Kone to do a safety update on this elevator
Actually this elevator is hydraulic I could tell just by the feeling when the elevator moved back when I first filmed it for my three year anniversary video back in 2015. Another way I can tell that this is hydraulic is because the arrow next to the floor number continues to scroll in whatever direction it is going until the door opens on the floor you selected, because that's how TAC32 behave on any TK hydraulic installation. Also if it was traction the arrow would've been scrolling in your direction of travel only for a brief moment and then it would disappear halfway through your ride on the elevator. That's how any TK TAC50 traction elevator controllers act. Also TAC50 controller software has been retired and replaced with TAC32T control units as their latest software for traction elevator controllers, I was told that by a TKE technician when they were working on an elevator in the Halifax VG hospital in the Dixon building when I was in the city for a week late last year.
I filmed this back when the bridge still existed upstairs. Still never managed to recover the footage of the video because I filmed it on my PlayStation Vita, that was a huge fail and so is the game system
I remember you mentioning that! Hopefully you’ll be able to get footage on it soon. I’ve also never understood why the removed the bridge and split the second floor in half!
@@artselevatorsgamingbeyond6644 the only way I can recover the data from the memory card is if I have the game system, which I traded mine at EB games for money not knowing that I needed the game system in order to transfer the data from the photos in the memory card to my computer. As much as I would like to recover the data from the memory card, I don't feel like spending the money on a game system to try and attempt a photo transfer. Because for one thing I don't even know if any of the software is compatible these days
That's interesting. I didn't realize that elevator opened up right into the Simons store.
Yes, it’s the bottom level of the former Sears store, in the new Entrance 8 court, beside the Dollarama entrance.
I figured the elevator would open up into Simons as soon as the elevator door opened up. Back when I filmed it on St. Patrick's Day the third floor was locked off. I'm surprised they even had it running for the Dollarama, because even that store wasn't open.
@@JordanLoweElevaToursCanada Yeah, Simons didn’t open until March 21.
@@artselevatorsgamingbeyond6644 well all I can say is the Luck of the Irish was on my side when I filmed this back on the St. Patrick's Day. Honestly when I filmed it, I really feel like it was probably the very first week that elevator was in service or the very first day judging by the elevator traffic it was crazy
I was in this elevator just before Christmas literally doing last-minute Christmas shopping last year. I got to say it was running in much better condition than previously, I want to say it was around mid 2023 I went to the mall and I noticed it was running a little rough. But after returning to the mall later towards the end of 2023 I was quite impressed how much better it was running within a short timeline, so props to TKE for maintaining this beautiful installation
Nice to see this is holding up well for an Otis MRL hydraulic
