This is England - Combo and Milky - 2 of 2
Warning: this description and these clips contain SPOILERS. If you have never seen the film "This is England" or it's three TV miniseries sequels, and you plan to at some point in the future, you should stop reading now, and do NOT watch these clips! In addition, you might want to watch the clips FIRST before reading the descriptions below.
Unknown by most people in the US, "This is England" was a hardhitting 2006 British drama, written and directed by Shane Meadows. The story centered on young skinheads in 1983 England. The film illustrated how their subculture, which had its roots in 1960 West Indies culture, was adopted by white nationalists, which led to divisions within the skinhead scene. The film was followed by three miniseries sequels, "This is England 86 / 88 / 90".
In this 2nd compilation, taken from the final miniseries, "This is England 90" (set 7 years after the original film), Combo has come out of two more prison sentences a reformed and repentant man, who has finally found peace and happiness within himself as he leaves his job to eat lunch. He is surprised by Milky, who's face shows the permanent scars of Combo's vicious attack at the end of the first film. Milky wants to go to a local cafe to talk the past incident out, "man to man". Combo is wary, but he reluctantly goes along. In the cafe, he emotionally apologizes for what he did to Milky, saying that he will never forgive himself for it, but hoping that one day, Milky will be able to.
What happens next is unexpected and unforgettable. Im not going to describe what transpires, except to say that the words screamed out (heard from a distant POV) and the final remorseful facial expression at the end of this clip (and the series) are absolutely heartbreaking. The original film, and the series, are brilliant masterpieces in every way.

Sounds like Combo ended up in a barrel destined for the sea, you can hear his voice echo right at the very end so sounds like they put him inside. Such a sad ending but what an amazing series
How do you think they killed him?? I always wondered what happened to him since I first watched it Hopefully they killed him quickly because He wasn’t really a bad person but It seems like maybe they would have tortured him

At the end, there is no justice. But revenge. The film leaves it to the viewer.
What milky is doing is 100% worse then what combo did to him. Sure he was beaten really bad. But combo does not deserve to be murdered for it. And in the series he sleeps with his best friends girfriend/wife. Another thing he is the bad guy. And the reason he is crying is not for what he did to combo. He cried for himself
Milky was hoping that there was a shred of that hateful angry Combo that put him in hospital all those years ago was still there so it would have made it easier. He then saw that Combo was no longer there and you could see the regret on his face when Combo said "I forgive you, I just hope that one day you'll be able to forgive me."

Milky at start before getting in car .saying you don't have to come .giving combo tht chance to not go .but he want to ask for forgiveness from milky .
One of the biggest crimes in tv history was them not making another series of this is England to answers the questions this series created

this scene reminds me of the end of the long good Friday. There are uses of dramatic irony, for instance where Combo scares off the pidgeon on the road by gesturing to kick it. It brings home the Nature vs nuture argument, It is not only until he is the van that he fully accepts it was at least in part his nature to be violent. Once that has happened he then realises that people that take him up the stairs care for their violent nature over ideologies such as nationalism/ racism. this presents the idea of "this is england" is just an excuse for man's violent nature. You could look at milky's drinking at the wedding as the sign of self harm through eventual alcholicism. as it looks like he is drinking to escape his own nature. My story was in 1986. i was 9. My best friend of 4 years attacked me. my face was bruised to the point that my left eye closed from the swelling for about 3 days. My mum took me to his mum to show her what her son had did. but my family were seen as drug addicts and not worthy of dignity. my best freind went on to do well in society. before the attack on me i have memories of collecting his mum from her night shift at the hopsital and people on the bus spitting on his older brother in a racist attack. i remember we would share baths and go to sunday school together.

I can relate to Milky. A promise is a promise,there was no going back. Milky almost lost his life on that hospital bed. This was personal. Combo has to accept that fate. Think twice before doing something like combo’s past action. The future is uncertain and could be good or bad based on the past. Lesson learned.

The most powerful scene in the whole T.I.E..and ludovico einaudis music makes.it even more powerful..I've been in that cafe...jubilee cafe at Grimsby...was the exact same as it was in this scene.. the exact same..can't wait for another series.. it will happen..it has to happen..so many loose ends to tie up...was combo handed over to the NF for turning his back and betraying them??The fact that we didn't see what happened to him means there is a chance that he's still alive??The story has lots more to offer,don't you think folks?Was good to see the old faces at the end,at the wedding?? It's been nearly 10 years since T.I.E 90. 10 years!!! OMG...T.I.E 00????the story continues....

This film and the whole this is England series is absolutely incredible it not only covers racism but also other things that go on even in this day and age it is still happening This film and series didn't have a big budget but it certainly became a massive hit Dead mens shoes is another film which really grips the audience from start to finish Stephen Graham is a fantastic actor who is so underrated and so very humble
The ultimate repentment prison can change you but isnt the ultimate punishment for the victims you leave behind
This ending is horrible, and would never be made today. No one deserves to be tortured and killed, and people deserve forgiveness, in the majority of circumstances. Milky did not forgive, and in doing so, he condemned himself. That's some deep s*!t.
Milky shouldve handled it himself man to man.

Milky proved in the end to be a bigger coward than Combo , by bringing in a team to do his dirty work for him.
Combo was right all along…..
combo changed even though apologizing still decided his fate, he didn't have to go with Milky but he did guys this is a life lesson be careful who you mess with the butterfly effect is what if combo didn't get in the car or left the cafe when he had a chance or fought back and managed to get away. I watched this a few times and properly analyzed the end when Combo got took by these 'Hitmen' there was no gunshot or he could've got stabbed and the camera angles, not being able to see what happened makes it way more eerie and effective. The only sound i picked up on was the door slamming again the exact same as when they slammed the door taking him in but it echoed and Combos voice echoed with it too. When Combo was shouting 'I don't wanna die, i don't wanna die please' you can hear the door slam this might be them holding him as hostage and beating him so another film may come out that's been hinted by the creators or if not he's dead and the way they did it was genius cos if they showed it we'll go okay he's dead it'll be too obvious.
British actors make American actors look like shit.
This still haunts me. There is speculation that Chris Meadows left it open as to whether Combo is dead as you don’t see them kill him. I don’t see it myself. The location he chose is perfect, just the sort of place something like that would happen. I presume. If he is still alive and then there is a return, a Skinhead Lazarus if you like, I don’t know how it would work. I think it’s all over . ?

Was it for no reason or was there a reason for it? You don't beat a child half to death and expect no retaliation from said child's family members. The decision was made by his family, not Milky.

The writer teased Stephen saying “you never know” and said you never saw a body or heard a gunshot so he both is and isn’t dead right now. If they make more, he’s not dead but if that was it then yeah he’s dead

I can’t express how perfect the whole series of this is England is it’s incredible and honestly so so underrated.

Its quite unnerving to see Combo screaming in fear as he is dragged away from the van, pleading for his life. He is quiet and stoic on the drive there, but finally his survival instincts kick in and he knows it is happening. Amazing acting from Stephen Graham. He is so talented.

Milkey was the true antagonist of this is england no joke.
He really was. Combo was an unhinged person with mental problems who was told what to think and presented himself with those beliefs. He beat Milky down and deserved a beating in return. The fact Milky cheated with Lol, had Woody raising his daughter, hid from Lols dad, lied to Lol at her wedding about where Combo was, lied to Combo to get him in the car, knew Combo was helping reform inmates and still decided to take that away, that shows how bad a person he is. Combo flipped out and it was done in under a minute but Milky sat on that hate for years, plotting and planning, knowing he was going to have Combo killed. Who would have thought loveable Milky would turn out to be such an evil person?
Milky is a coward too... "promises were made" doensn't make you a better man then he was when he beat you, if anything, in front of remorse, a true man will not forgive, will not forget, but will not stand for this. A true man would've known better. I see 5 cowards in the cowards in the room. Sad.
The brief look of hesitation on Combos face after Milky says shall we jump in the car, Combo wants to talk to Milky... but... hes got a bad feeling about this... thinking this may be more than just a man to man
I've always didn't care for milky, and this ending just proves i wa right.. smh...i didn't care for this part of the ending.
Of course you dont, it not the ending you wanted for Combo... but it's the ending Shane Meadows wrote, Shaun Fields plays Shane Meadows in the 2006 film. Milky never got over this, that was also Shane's point.
sorry but did combo have some major head trauma prior to this . A guy you nearly beat to death stops you in the street and lures you away from the general public. to which you make comments about being in the middle of nowhere and thinking milky was going to do him over. and you looked shocked when his family come in and grab you

When you watch Stephen Graham acting, you know you're watching greatness! Also that scene with him screaming for his life, with the music, and that political speach playing. Powerful stuff
