IEC 61850 Substation Design Considerations
zhlédnutí 691Před 2 lety
IEC 61850 Substation design example showing an RSTP ring for main devices in the station bus and multiple HSR rings in the process bus. Explanation of topology, grandmaster clock placement, redundancy design and synchronization considerations. In any IEC 61850 substation network design should involve the protection engineer. Narrated by iS5 Communications' Field Application Engineer Anis Chaya.
IEC 61850 Quality of Service
zhlédnutí 576Před 2 lety
In a digital substation, different types of traffic are sent, especially over the station bus. Some of these include GOOSE, MMS, MSV, SCADA, engineering PC, remote access, physical security, PTP, NMS, network traffic, etc. IEC 61850-5 defines latency and transfer time. The data transfer type for the different applications varies and protocols such as Sampled Values and GOOSE must have higher pr...
IEC 61850 Precision Time Protocol IEEE 1588
zhlédnutí 858Před 2 lety
With Precision Time Protocol (PTP aka IEEE 1588v2), there can be three clock types in a substation. They are the grandmaster clock, the transparent clock and the salve clock. Grandmaster Clock * source of the time of the network * synchronizes all the devices in the substation * only one grandmaster clock in a PTP domain * includes a GPS time receiver and a high-quality oscillator * has a long ...
IEC 61850 Time Synchronization
zhlédnutí 1KPřed 2 lety
In IEC 61850 different functions have different accuracy requirements. Protection functions such as busbar protection and differential protection require a relative clock synchronization, which means they need to be synchronized but not necessarily reflecting the accurate time. Synchro phasors on the other hand require an absolute synchronization to a global time reference. Merging units requir...
IEC 61850 PRP Redundancy
zhlédnutí 3,2KPřed 2 lety
PRP (Parallel Redundancy Protocol) is similar to HSR in the sense that packets are duplicated for redundancy. The difference is that the packets travel on separate Local Area Networks (LANs) instead of using a ring topology. Each LAN can host multiple Layer 2 switches. PRP frames can be forwarded by any Layer 2 switch (while HSR frames cannot). This solution is more expensive than HSR because o...
IEC 61850 HSR Redundancy
zhlédnutí 1,8KPřed 2 lety
HSR (High Availability Seamless Redundancy) is a ring redundancy protocol that requires a ring topology. The way zero packet loss is achieved is by duplicating the paths and the packets. A SAN (single attached node that does not support HSR) is connected to a Redundancy Box (aka Red Box = an HSR capable device such as the iRBX6GF). The Red Box duplicates the packets and sends them in both direc...
IEC 61850 Redundancy Protocols
zhlédnutí 832Před 2 lety
Each communication type in a digital substation has a different recovery time requirement. More importantly, bus bar protection and sampled values require zero recovery time, that is zero packet loss. For this reason, very specific redundancy protocols must be used with IEC 61850. The higher the number of devices in a ring, the higher the recovery time. The recovery time range for some of the m...

Just watched this as an introduction to IEC61850. Really interesting and well presented, thank you! The only thing I am not sure of is why there is a limitation of 15 nodes on an HSR ring?

According to NIST changing passwords i a practice of the past and regarded as detrimental. What is recommended is a 16-digit password or more and it never changes unless a reason comes by. I short, that is because change of passwords makes users store them in ways that often make a breach easier than cracking the password itself.

Why cant HSR ring made at DANP-relay. It suppose to be made at realy than red box can be connected to RSTP ring

    • @iS5Communications
      @iS5Communications Před 2 lety

HSR rings are usually made of IEDs that support HSR (DANH). However, if the IEDs don't support HSR natively, a redundancy box is needed to connect them to the ring.
