    I don't know. There's a ton of different tech and options. Your particular ear will gravitate to other things. I understand having a grounded reference for mastering, but there's a literal galaxy of options and stratospheric expense if you so choose. Is any of it "better" than this mastering set? Only one way to find out really. Certainly a mastering console as represented in this video is far from the best listening environment. Dedicated rooms exist for a reason. I also think having "This the absolute best and no better exist" attitude is a real lost opportunity to hear what might be better.

    Sounds amazing as is. Weird when turned up, yes, but very cool. It would be great for adding colour to a track. The stock speakers in those are crap, but the amp is hand wired and a pretty close relative to the 50 watt non-master-volume Marshall of that era. It's a keeper.

  • @doordedeur
    @doordedeur Před 7 měsíci

    It sounds a lot warmer than a DX-7. Mainly because of the simpler algorithms and the chorus effect. I wonder why Yamaha never fitted the DX-7 with a chorus. Even the cheaper DX-21 has one.

    • @cubdukat
      @cubdukat Před 6 měsíci

      I don't know if that would have been such a good idea, given how noisy the original DX7 was, although I suppose chorused digital noise could be musically useful somehow...

    • @doordedeur
      @doordedeur Před 5 měsíci

      Without any chorus or reverb, the DX-7 sounds very ugly. So even with extra noise a chorus would benefit the harsh sounds.

    • @Shred_The_Weapon
      @Shred_The_Weapon Před 4 měsíci

      They were also trying to make the DX7 as economical as possible. It’s a hypothesis that adding effects circuitry in 1983 would have made it heavier and pricier.

    I had your Fender Bassman Dennis. Howard fixed it up to run with my Gibson EB-3 which he wired Stereo HI/Z Low/Z. In Spring of 1974 he cut out the body and installed a Les Paul Low/Z Recording Pickup in the bass and matched it to the Fender Bassman by installing a Low/Z transformer in the Second Channel. I played it with a XLR jack out to split 1/4 inch jacks Hi/Low into both channels of the Bassman. Grreat rig. I have the Gibson still. The Bassman I sold to a shop in Indiana. LOL He converted it back to Straight even knowing it was a Dumble amp. PS You said Howard was......has he died? He was a terrific guy. I could barely pry my bass out of his hands after he finished it.
