Does weight affect EV range? | Moving in my Tesla Model 3 (2024)

In this video, I am doing a roadtrip and moving my stuff from Vilamoura, Algarve to Matosinhos, Porto - for a distance of 550km (340mi). I do a range test to see if there is a significant impact range when having a fully laden car (over 250kg/550lb of cargo passengers) vs without the cargo. I also check how many credits get used if you redeem Supercharging miles (kilometers in my case) and whet...

    If you drive on highway ~130/140 km/h you shall be able to make the trip with just one stop for charging in about 30. I did similar trips like this (me, my wife and our 5year old kid, with climatization running) and never had to stop more than once. I really don't understand why you have such a huge consumption... is the altitude difference that big or battery has an issue?

    Saw the Cybertruck yesterday in Gothenburg Sweden. I totally agree with you it's a monster in size. But only Tesla would build a car like this and put it in production. All other car manufacturers they make cars like that as a concept. Then they use some of the features to make "normal" cars... But not Elon. I like that thinking. The car is totally outrageous and crazy but that's what makes it absolutely fantastic and brilliant. If it was allowed in EU and I had the money I am not sure I wouldn't buy one... If only to make all people start talking. That's the fun part. Will go to Portugal with my Highland LR probably next spring so hopefully if I pass Porto I will tell so we can say hello and talk Highland and compare what our thoughts is about the car. Thanks for all good videos from Portugal.

    Charging to 100% on a SuC is usually a waste of time. Charging to 100% on other chargers is not only a waste of time, but a waste of money - they charge by time, as well as energy, so the slower the charger, the more expensive it gets.

    • @europeinatesla
      @europeinatesla Před 13 dny

      Hi! Thank you for watching. I haven’t looked into that, but I highly doubt it’ll be cheaper than the Tesla superchargers. Is it ONLY 7c/min or are there other fees? Usually, from my experience, there’s a connection fee, then a kWh fee and then a per min fee. I’d be very surprised if it was only the per min fee. Also you’re assuming the chargers are 150kW chargers to achieve that sort of charge, a lot of them are 50kW so it’ll take much longer

    • @Reis05
      @Reis05 Před 12 dny

      That is not correct, that is just what Shell charge you, in Portugal you still need to pay all the other taxes attached to Mobi.E like opc taxe etc. But if you really need to use the mobi e network shell is indeed a little cheaper then all other cards in Portugal i believe. But you can't order one shell card if you leave in Portugal, you need to ordered it leaving abroad.

    • @europeinatesla
      @europeinatesla Před 13 dny

      Hi! I think Gizmo is referring to the rated range displayed on the screen… so this estimate is based on the EPA range, not the WLTP range. It is definitely possible to get above 450km per charge on the SR if you drive on chill and not on the highway. Regarding Rsca’s comment, I wonder if the photos have a huge benefit especially for highway due to aerodynamic drag increasing at higher speeds 🤔

    • @europeinatesla
      @europeinatesla Před 15 dny

      Great question. I wouldn't get the Enhanced Autopilot or FSD in Europe - you're right - it's basically lane changing (which isn't even automatic - you need to nudge the wheel) and a few other features that are always "coming soon" - autopark, summon etc. I think the bumper-to-bumper traffic performance of regular AP would be the same. I would've recommend that you use my referral code to get free 3-months to try enhanced, but they stopped the referral program now :(

I’d have mentioned the “Save video on Honk” feature. If activated in settings, it will ensure a prior 10 minute video is stored, if an incident was encountered. Another point on Dog Mode is its disabling of window and door buttons, so that the ‘lil suckers cannot open anything, while left alone.
