    • @MarkGTLLC
      @MarkGTLLC Před 7 dny

      Formerly with a rural California combination FD. We would roll several Patrols (T6 engine single staffed) along with a couple heavy engines (T1s - ours carried at least 1500 gals). Patrols would go off-road and direct with pump & roll while heavies hung out on the farm roads to hold the road and serve as water tenders when the T6s run dry.

    • @soonerstatefirephotography

      @@MarkGTLLC if we are really low on manpower we'll take a T6 out with a 1 man crew, we don't like to though, it's rare. We roll an Engine or Tanker out with one man all the time for a brush fire.

      @MarkGTLLC Před 6 dny

      @soonerstatefirephotography Tankers are great for wildland fire, SEATs can make some hay in light flashy fuels! BUT they're a lot more effective flying than rolling. 😉

  • @soonerstatefirephotography

    Notice how as the evening progresses the fire looses intensive dramatically. This is becouse the humidity increases at night (usually, and depending on climate). In this area (NE OK) we rarely get wildland fires at night. They occasionally start from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm but most often start (or get out of control if it was a controled burn originally) at 1:00pm to 4:00pm. After 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm fires often start loosing intensity and become much easier to control. But that is not always the case. If the humidity does not heavily increase, and the wind is still blowing, the fire will be just as dangerous as it was at 3pm, with the added danger of darkness.

      It is a tactic called "backburning". Wildland firefighters use it to ensure a wildfire cannot rekindle and start up again, and sometimes we even use it to stop the progression of a fire that cannot be reached or stopped with water. We set a controlled fire ahead of or around the wildfire, which burns up the vegetation, stopping the original fire because it cannot burn what has already been burnt.

Most of the time these guys are unpaid volunteers donating large amounts of their time & they're ready to go 24/7 to help their communities in bad times. These people have jobs & a life other than firefighting. It's totally unreasonable to expect volunteer firefighters to have the same skills as career firefighters. So what if every single move isn't textbook perfect, they're getting it done & in the end that's all that matters & without them we'd be in serious trouble. I don't care if they're just standing there drinking water & pissing on the fire! At least they're doing more than most people do.

      @@jmWhyMewell claiming that LAFD and FDNY are very bad just absolutely demolished any credibility you might have had, but otherwise, chainsaws and other tools, (k saws, blowers, ect) all have problems they almost never start perfectly, like in a TV show. They sounded the roof, I just didn't film that part cause i was talking to a firefighter and got distracted, the use of a hali confused me at first too, but as I stated in the description, it was a multi-Layered roof, with add ons done by the home owner, meaning it had to be pulled vertically, poking it with a pole wouldn't have helped. They sprayed water in the vent hole becouse for the now third time, multi Layered roof with an insulated void space on fire. Just becouse you see a particular way of doing things, on a TV show or training video, dosnt mean that's the only way to do it, any real firefighter knows you have to adapt and improvise in this service. Your only real complaint is the guy not wearing a mask for 30 seconds becouse he was out of air. Also, these aren't officers Drumright ffs wear red helmets.

    I cannot imagine a more disorganized clumsy attempt at fire fighting. Were the 4 people afraid to cross the fence to pull hose? What the heck was that female there for? Not much it seemed. Far too much wasted time at beginning. No coordination whatsoever it appeared. This entire crew needs a ton more training on how to effectively fight a grass fire.

    • @soonerstatefirephotography
      @soonerstatefirephotography Před 29 dny

      They were pulling hose, one at the rear of the truck, one at the fence, as any firefighter should know, yanking a hose across a barbwire fence isn't going to do anything but tear a hole in it, which is what would be accomplished if someone pulled line on my side of the fence. "The female" was pulling her weight the same as anyone else and was driving the truck in the initial attack. The footage shows one small angle of the fire, but in reality, we had 4 brush trucks and 2 tankers there, attacking fire on three fronts at once, all coordinated by one fire chief initially, and then split into two commands as the incident progressed. Clearly, great coordination took place, I'm sure the USFS would be proud. And, as this was one of 45 grass fires we fought in the span of 2 months, I'd say we got a lot of training in that time period. =)
