    2:03 - "Zero is clipping" Well, that depends on what you are talking about/looking at. input meters or fader meters? (these can be different things if you are looking at software or the desk itself) Also depends on the manufacturer of the desk you are using, as I know that Behringer and Allan & Heath set their metering up a little differently.

    Good explanation, but simpler the chain the easier the gain structure, digial or analog. The more plug ins used the more complicated it can get. Also sometimes we get plug in crazy, close tour eyes and listen to changes or toggle them on and off. If its not that big of differnce then you might not need it. Somwtimes i have to catch myslef to not use womehtinf just because i may barely hear it but may not be worh instering into the signal chain.

    Sorry buddy, U made a massive mistake due tuning the Bottom head. 👆 I have got the same tunebot on my own. When u use the tunebot on the Bottom head and u go near or over 400 hertz u must use the high frequency Button on the tunebot. Otherwise it could be u allways get 400hertz because in normal Mode the tunebot can't detect higher. It is it's maximum When u Hit the high frequency Button the tunebot will be able to detect more than 400 hertz 😉 U r welcome 😉🤟🥁🤟

    This is a very useful video, but I have a different opinion. If I mix everything I can in the studio, I can't do that in a live system, because safety is very important with power amplifiers and speakers dealing with large voltages. So I add a little bit of transients on the drums at line level so that they light up at +3dB, and the end result is that I want the mix to run safely at line level. This is to prevent clipping on sudden input signals and subsequently protect the system if you don't have a dynamic processor. The desired mix is an operation, but it is also an operation to keep the system running well.

    Solid video but I’m not standing on my Black Beauty or any of my snares for that matter! 😳😁 Instead, I tighten the top head really tight and let it sit overnight, then tune the next day. I also tune the top head to about 300hz so the fundamental of the drum ends up about a G or G# but this is more Bohnam than big fat snare sound.

    Hey sir! I'm an audio tech at my church. We have the exact same set up at one of our campuses. Digico S31 60 channel version, Hear Tech WSG Bridge , Waves Soundgrid Impact server, and Superrack. For some reason when we use the insert send and return audio will pass through Superrack but no audio will come out of the console but as soon as we turn the insert off the audio will pass through again. Heres an example of an input and signal flow...Shure ULXD Mic comes into the S31 as a Dante input, then insert (send and return) Dante out to the bridge then out to the vocal bus, then master. We have a workaround set up in the mean time but that is not preferred. With the way we currently have it working if the server were to crash or Any ideas on what we could be doing wrong? We have to be missing something. I have spoken with Hear Tech support, Waves and Digico to no avail. We performed some needed updates but its still not working as designed. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!!

    • @thepowerplaceproduction
      @thepowerplaceproduction Před 6 měsíci

      Great question! If you’re a house tech then I recommend spending everyday trying to practice it a little bit. The more you do it the faster you will develop an ear for it. If you aren’t ask to borrow a friends drum or buy a cheap one to learn how it works. Never ask to tune a drummers kit if you aren’t sure you can improve a sound/fix a problem for sure or you end up making a fool of yourself and it’s not a good way to steward that relationship. The goal is to serve the drummer and help them sound their best.

      If your running it at a good signal level but running into clipping it’s possible the drummer has bad playing technique and is hitting really light AND really hard. Try using a bit more compression than you normally would!

    If your console meters were setup to be RMS instead of PEAK would you just gain every channel to -18?

    • @thepowerplaceproduction
      @thepowerplaceproduction Před 7 měsíci

      Yeah but in my experience the only desk that offers true RMS metering is the Avid S6L. I think digico is just digital or “analog” style metering. If it’s analog vu style shoot for 0 on most things but -5 or -7 for low end stuff.

    • @thepowerplaceproduction
      @thepowerplaceproduction Před 7 měsíci

      Also not every channel is going to work at the same gain level. Especially if it’s a dynamic input. Pastors/speakers who talk regular and pastors/speakers who yell and get all hyped up is a great example of where you might need to leave more or less room. Depends on what you’re mixing a little bit.

      That desk shows clipping before actual clipping. It’s annoying. The broadcast feed is what is metering and it has an L2 set to -1.0. Always shows red on the desk around -4 but it’s fine. I guess they think it’s to warn you. To me it makes it useless. It also reads -18 as -20. It’s weird! I don’t recommend clipping your converters haha

    Lots of good suggestions. However recommend fitting butt end snare wire end fitting first as the position won’t move like the strainer end. You say that the snare wires you have fitted are Puresound. Unfortunately this is incorrect as (1) Puresound have straight ended brass end plates (2) Puresound don’t make more than 30 strand snare wires not 40 (3) these are probably Gibraltar 42 strand wires - still great wires though!! 🤘😁🥁👍

    From working on both A&H SQ's and Digico S-series consoles frequently, I've seen a couple of differences. You can pick and choose which works better for you, but there are my experiences: A&H SQ has 48 inputs PLUS 8 Stereo FX returns on top of the 48. On the S21/31 you have to use your input channels for FX returns (robbing you of input channels) SQ > S31 BUT, on the SQ you have to merge channels to create stereo channels, robbing you of channels. On the S31 you have 48 flexi channels which can all be used as stereo inputs. SQ<S31 SQ has 12 Stereo Mixes PLUS 4 dedicated FX Sends. On S21/31 you have 16 Stereo mixes, but again, have to use them for FX sends. But their totals are equal. SQ = S31 SQ has something called "Mix external inputs" which are additional input channels that are fed directly to mixes, without using up the 48 processing channels. S31 has nothing such. SQ > S31 S31 has 21 Dynamic EQ's PLUS Multi-band compressors. SQ has non such. Only normal EQ and compressor. SQ<S31 On SQ, you can assign any channel (input, output, FX, DCA, etc), to appear on multiple layers. On S31, any given channel can ONLY appear on ONE layer. If you have the Kick on layer 1, it can not be on another layer. That sucks big time. SQ > S31 On the SQ you have plenty of 'Soft-key' shortcuts which can be assigned to do anything. On the S31, you have...... zero. SQ > S31 S31 has a limited amount of 'sources' that can be sent to a matrix.. SQ can send ALL groups/mixes to any matrix. SQ > S31 S31 has 8x Mono Matrices, that must be linked in order to create 4x Stereo matrices. SQ only has 3 matrices that are either Mono or stereo, but always 3. SQ < S31 SQ has smart Talkback system for Monitor and FOH engineers.. S31 has non such. SQ > 31 S31 has dual "solo" paths... SQ only has one. SQ < S31 S31 has a spill set function. SQ has non such. SQ < S31 SQ has built in 48ch AMM, S31 needs a DMI card for such function. SQ > S31 SQ has one expansion slot for cards, S31 has two. SQ < S31 SQ has 7 "Direct Out" tapping point options. S31 only has 3. SQ > S31 SQ scribble strip allows only 6 characters. S31 allows 18. SQ < S31 There are plenty of other little differences. But from working with both of these consoles extensively, I have found more frustrations with the S-series consoles and more love with the SQ consoles. But again, each to his own. BOTH consoles are TOP end and sound amazing.

    • @thepowerplaceproduction
      @thepowerplaceproduction Před 11 měsíci

      A&H for sure has more “features and customization” and more extra flexibility with extra channels and stuff. Personally really not a fan of it though. It sounds dark and compressed to me, but other people make it sound awesome! With waves though it’s really not better/worse, just a different way of getting to the same place. The fx on A&H are great. Digico’s fx are a total joke sometimes. I think digico is the easiest to understand because everything feels the same no matter what your doing, and the routing is more point to point and easier to not get lost in soft patching between stuff.
