Sand Casting A Signet Ring [How To]
Hi everyone, Thanks for watching my video!!
Sand casting might seem intimidating, but I promise it’s actually pretty easy and fairly cheap as well.
This video should give you a broad overview on how to cast most signet style rings.
Don’t worry about the gold skull I soldered on, that’s just something I added for a little flashiness.
I total I spent roughly $110 to start sand casting.
I am going to break down the cost of materials below:
-2 Piece Flask: $21 - $25
-Delft Clay: $49 for 4.4lbs (you can buy petrobond off of eBay for a lot less).
-Brush:$1 (Used to dust off the mold and ventilation tunnels)
-Putty Knife: $1 (Bought mine from the dollar store. Works great to remove excess sand from flask).
-Flat Head Screwdriver: $1 (Dollar store item, used to remove sand to form tunnels).
-Map Gas: $13
-Crucible Kit: $20 on Amazon
-Baby Powder: $6
-Mold: (The price of this depends on the ring or item you purchase).

Where you bought the sand..what its name
Solid or hollow ?
Solid. Wish I could do hollow stuff. Would make it cheaper. It was sand casted in delft clay.
Beautiful and turning your tripod upside down is pure genius!!!
Thank you, i appreciate you noticing that!! Lol
What type of clay did you use for the mold if you don’t mind me asking.
Don’t mind at all, I use delft clay.
Even with prices going up, it’s still a smart buy
I agree 100%. I honestly see silver more as a savings than an actual investment. At the end of the day, I think you’ll be able to get your money back as long as you consistently buy and stay away from high premiums.
Hell yeah!! That’s awesome !!
Thank you!
How long it takes to melt the gold
Not long at all. It really depends on the type of torch you use. With MAP Gas about 2 minutes
Hola es plata 925?
Plata pura. 999
Can you tell me all the equipment you used in this video, I want to sand cast at home but I don't know what to get for it
Sure thing: Belt sander (cheap one from harbor freight) Dremel (cheap wireless one off Amazon) A bunch of different buffing pads/buffing wheels (Also off Amazon) Delft Clay Iron Flask or any 2 part flask The mold you’ll be using (aka whatever you’re wanting to make) Tumbler (also from harbor freight)
material savings! my heart is bleeding that so much silver dust went into the air :(
Unfortunately it happens, I do try to save as much as possible when I can. I need to invest in some sort of box that will catch it all.
Hope all is well for you... I miss seeing your awesome projects.
Truly appreciate it my friend, thank you. Hope all is well with you too. I’m hoping to have some more time soon to make stuff. I miss it as well.
@@poured_Silver I had to get creative in my boredom, and made a small sterling silver rose... I put up pics on my Facebook, and it's been very well received. You're an inspiration, and I look forward to seeing more from you in the future! 🤗
Que le ponen a la plata para poder grabarla?
pintura acrilica
@@poured_Silver muchas gracias, lo pondré a prueba
Put a tube or dowel when making the mold for the sprue.
Nice work.
Thank you!!
Cool
Thank you!
💯💯
Whoop someone’s ass with style with those
All the silver dust!!!!! NOOOOOOO
Lol yeah I never collect it. I’m sure I’ve lost a lot by not collecting over the years.
Grams are a waste of time
👍
What torch do you use? Ive been looking to start casting silver rings and dont wanna make the commitment of a induction furnace just yet
It’s just a regular map gas torch from Lowe’s or Home Depot. The yellow can.
Hy bro whats the name of powder which u use
Just normal baby powder.
Would it be a good idea to make silver rounds/coins with fine silver clay if you dont have the means to do cast pours?
It most definitely would, but keep in mind that it will be pretty expensive. If you’re planning on selling them I’d put a premium on them. Fine silver clay is not cheap. They also sell sterling clay, which is cheaper and copper clay as well.
@@poured_Silver thank you so much for this info 🙏🏻 i appreciate you!!
Awesome work!! What are you doing at 9:15? Thanks!
Thank you very much, I was removing the solder marks from the inside lip.
What tools do you use for cleaning the coin after casting like cutting off excess and polishing
I use simple tools like wire cutters, jewelry saw, Dremel with different attachments. For polishing I use a corse buffing wheel and then something fine like a 220 buffing wheel. Then I use my tumbler to finish it off
It's different for sure 😊
Thank you! I love making unique items.
How can I get one? I e been looking for one and heard you had made one.
Do you have instagram? You can message me on there, if not you can send me an email.
Is that Lp2?
It is!!
@@poured_Silver Is it good to use for silver?
Are you fusing the prong wires together ?
Not fusing, but I am soldering them.
@@poured_Silver making this in silver tomorrow. How are you getting the curvature right where the prong tabs wrap around the bezel?
Let me know how it goes. I honestly eyeball 90% of what I do. I originally made each prong larger than what it was needed and then pushed only 1 down to get an idea where it would sit on the coin. After that I bent it back and used that as a guide for the rest.
That’s pretty cool looking
Much appreciated!!
Do ya sell these by chance
I do on occasion. Message me on instagram if you got one.
F yea
🙏🏼
Wow, So cool!
Truly appreciate it.
Beautiful!!!
Thank you so much!!
Love your box! What gauge is the silver sheet for both box and lid?
Truly appreciate it!! I used 18 gauge for the tube and 20 gauge for the lid because I ran out of 18.
Beautiful work, I know its been bout a year , just ran into your video. So? Do you do any and sell them, ?
Thank you very much for the compliment. I do every so often when I have time to make more. Check out my instagram, it’s on this channel. You can message me on there.
Beautiful
Thank you very much!
I would love to make this for my granddaughter. Where did you get this mold PLEASE? This a beautiful keepsake.
Thank you very much. The clay can be bought from Cooltools.us they also have a channel on here to show you how to use it. I bought everything from their site.
Nice, if I supply the silver will you cast and how much?
I haven’t taken on silver to make stuff in a while. I’ll definitely think about it and let you know. If you have Instagram, message me there.
Very Pretty
Thank you very much.
Is this mould durable?
Yes, but overtime it will degrade and you will need a new one. Check out my most recent video using a mold made of H13 Steel
awesome man just did my first piece sand cast for my bro, made him a lil shark! Your stuff is inspiring! What's the process you used to put the photo in there?
Truly appreciate, thank you for the kind words. I used an app called Canva to get the size for the pendant.
Awesome
Thank you very much.
🏆🏆
What a wonderful job, what is the thickness . Where did you get the template?
Thank you very much. It’s 22G thick and I picked a random template off google. I just searched, “Copper Rose Template.”
You can make thorns by soldering smaller gauge wire on the stem and cutting them at an angle to make the point
I love that idea, thank you!
Beautiful work. Thanks for sharing it.
Thank you very much for the kind words.
That's gorgeous!
Thank you very much.
Nice Mosquito Hawk!😊
Much appreciated, I need to make another one soon lol
You can’t mint your own coins. These are rounds not currency
Regardless, the video shows how to make your own coins. Thanks for the information.
Nice pendant!
Thank you!!
