10 year old Eneloop discharge test....from unopened new package... The King of LSD

The rechargeable batteries in questions are Eneloops made in Japan, in April 2008. The discharge test was done in May 2018. 10 years after they were made. 1 thing I'd like to point out is that I received contradicting information from a Panasonic employee, who told me that from the beginnen all Enelooop batteries sold in Japan were fully charged at the factory, and only the ones overseas were c...

FYI...: "A battery's depth of discharge (DoD) indicates the percentage of the battery that has been discharged relative to the overall capacity of the battery." 1900 mAh * 60% = 1140 mAh. (Note: This would be the energy that would be discharged at 60% DoD). 1900 aAh - 1140 mAh = 760 mAh. (Note: This would be the remaining energy in the cell (760/1900=.4=40%) Your results work out as follows: 1274/1900=.67 = *67% DoD* 1314/1900=.692 = *69.2% DoD*

Thank you for doing this. I came here because I have found a few details that I know think the eneloops i bought are counterfeits! However, as I do not have an authentic packaging. I have nothing to compare. I would like to say that the counterfeit packaging that I had is pretty good. It has almost none of the flaws you mentioned, except for the darker grey colour that you mentioned. they also cut down on the font style. The font is thinner and a bit blur-er on the fake ones. save printing ink i guess. I would think that the flaws you mentioned are easily rectifiable by these scammers, as it is just spelling, alignment, font size. and they can watch your video to rectify if they want. and it has been 5 years, they probably have improved their counterfeiting. The codes I have below are all 54 as well. However the full number 54...... for all 3 AA packs of 4 eneloop batteries are the same. I see from your video, they are different numbers.

No I never leave them in direct sunlight. The problem is the outer shell of these Eneloops crack on several parts and the cracks get larger and larger. They crack arount the edges of the poles where it wraps around. However I live in an semi arid zone where it is hot and an flashlight with an NiMH battery in it can heat up in the air pretty quick. 100 degrees Fareheit are not uncommon here in the shadow. The wrap is definatelly metal with plastic outside as it seems. The metal wrap cracks and splits and one can peel it off over time. Little tiny splinters of metal one can pull off the cracks. These are every day use batteries. The one in box do this not. If the peel off gets worse it is normal to be able to stick an screwdriver between battery and wrapping where they join for about 5 mm. This is observed by other Eneloop users as well. I peel off the entire wrap and clean the glue and use the battery "nacked". The battery works as well like that just one has to make sure not to short it touching the rim and the + pole at the same time. The entire body is the - pole. Only the + knob is the positive. Don't bridge those parts. It works without the wrap as well in an Coast HX5 aluminum flashlight. It's not the glue what fails but rather the wrap itself splits and cracks just by ordinary use.

This means that you shouldn't be using them in series (or even parallel) with eachother because the will get deep discharged. That's mainly the problem with subpar batteries. When the deep discharge happens, the quality will deteriorate even faster! I admit I read your message briefly :(
