Hi Anthony, when mowing grass, it is recommended to switch up your pattern every few mows. However the old myth of creating ruts in your yard has been a bit blown out of proportion. You're most susceptible to creating ruts when your yard is very wet, if you avoid mowing during these times you'll greatly reduce the risk of ruts. On top of that, push mowers with skinny wheels can do faster damage than larger machines with wider wheels and therefore wider points of contact on your yard. Switching up your pattern once a week/week and a half is a great way to not only achieve awesome stripes, but also prevent any sort of issues with yard ruts.

Because mowers vibrate the entire time they're in use; these vibrations can easily back nuts out over the course of a mow. By using Nylon lock nuts, we prevent the striper from falling off while operating. Making it safer and it prevents the operator from damaging their mower and or striper.

Hi, try striping the first layer multiple times over the course of two to three mows, this establishes what we call "the base pattern". From there you should be able to lay a checkerboard.

Hi David, It will only impede on the lowest setting. That being said, when mowing with a lawn striper, the longer the cut the better.

No. The sunlight reflecting off of the now laid down grass is what creates the appearance of light and dark. The light lines are when the grass is laying away from you, meaning you drove in that direction. The dark are the lines coming towards you, with the grass laying down towards you (reflecting less sunlight). Only re-mow the light lines that you've already "pushed down" - don't mow against the grain on the dark lines. You can lower the blades one setting on the second set of lines (the other diagonal or cross section at 90 degrees from your first lines) to enhance the look, though.

Nope! Zero deck manipulation is required to achieve awesome stripes, just mow normally. The way to make stripes like these is with a striping kit. Lawn stripers roll the grass in the direction of the mow, when you make passes back and forth, the grass blades are being laid down in opposite directions, giving you the light and dark effect. It's the same concept as vacuuming carpet and seeing the pass that the vacuum took. Thanks for you question, I hope this helps!

Hi, generally speaking this specific ryobi striper will not work for the 20" ryobi models, however, if your mower matches up with the one featured in the video, it will work for you. Hi Herman, We suggest you check out some lawn striping videos on CZcams! They're very relaxing, satisfying videos and seeing a striper in use makes it all make a lot more sense. But to give you an idea, lawn striping generally requires a lawn striper (sometimes not). As far as how it works, it's the same concept as vacuuming carpet. You go one direction vs another and the stripes will appear to have different colors. What's actually happening is the grass bent/rolled towards you casts a shadow (darker stripe), while the grass bent away from you reflects the sun (brighter stripe). These videos are intended to show our customers how to achieve specific patterns on their lawn. Our stripers require zero deck manipulation, and certainly no scalping. Going over the same cut multiple times will never scalp your yard, unless of course you as the operator choose to lower your deck and scalp it. I hope this helps, Thanks!

Hi Marshall, good question. We have never had any sort of structural or warranty issues with Hondas. There are a few models of Honda mowers that we do not support for those very reasons. The Honda Harmony models are built using cast aluminum that becomes brittle and structurally weakened when drilled, we do not make stripers for those specific models.
