I NOTICED the "DROP-PLATE" between the Engine🚂 & Tender on the "lighter gray" Hudson. 👍🏼 All these steam Engines should have the "Drop-Plate" because it's; 1. MORE REALISTIC, & 2. Eliminates the awkward looking GAP between the Engine & Tender.

Now that is an awesome excursion train Steve!! Is the C40-8 powered too, or just a dummy unit? If it’s powered and linked to 4014, imagine all the cars you could pull!!!
Was originally powered but never ran well, Sid was selling it and I said I would buy it for my UP excursion he advised me as to how it ran and I said I just needed a dummy so he pulled the motor and shipped it right out to me. it is perfect for my excursion train.

@@StephenKoferl 844 is easily my favorite steam locomotive that’s still around today although the Dreyfuss Hudsons and the Pennsylvania T1’s are probably my favorite steam locomotives of all time. I am, however, just as much as a fan of diesel locomotives as late steamer designs (think stuff like the Norfolk and western J class the big boy the Y6B the US Army S160 the 844 and the Chesapeake and Ohio Alleghenies.) I have always liked diesel locomotive since I was a young kid just as much as I have like steam engines and I tend to like either the streamlined ones from the 1930s 40s and 50s or the Amtrak trains that have been used over the years the most. When I start my planned layout in the future, I’m probably going to have a large mix of steam and diesel. One of the ideas I had was simulating what the Norfolk and western would look like, if it never entirely got rid of steam and only utilized diesels for switching and in areas it acquired like the nickel plate road and the Wabash. It would be a sort of a compromise between all steam stuff and some diesels. I really like the Diesels, Norfolk and western used like some GP diesels and the Norfolk and western bicentennial unit in particular. Probably I would have that I would simulate the diesels being used as multiple unit Lashups to assist large steam engines in freight trains over tough grades, and I would utilize models of the modern Norfolk Southern, Norfolk, and western heritage unit in this fashion, perhaps alongside models of the Y6B

Even though you made this 2 years ago, Lionel has now made boxcars with John Tyler, Zachary Taylor, Millard Fillmore, Franklin Pierce, Rutherford Hayes, Chester Arthur, Grover Cleveland, Lyndon Johnson, and Gerald Ford.

How long did it take you to build the layout Stephen?
When I built it some 20-25 years ago I think it was about 6-9 months. But it never was finished as my wife got sick with Cancer. She was going to do all of the scenery, but could not tolerate the smell of paints and dust from scenery. After she passed I was talking to a past president of the LCCA and the next thing I know I am getting the layout ready for photo shoot and article for their publication. I hope this answers your question.

The old one has a much more accurate color.
I honestly like the sounds on the older Lionel model the best. The new one is still pretty nice make no mistake
I like both, but the color on the new one really makes the paint scheme Pop and the new design of the passenger cars keep them so close adds so much more realism
Yes, BUT it's LACKING the very important, "DROP-PLATE" between the ENGINE & TENDER which without it looks awkward & unrealistic.
Nice to see 90 on your Layout Steve. Glad I went ahead and went all out and got one also. Hopefully they come out with the Sound Car like they hinted at in next Catalog.
