The Coast Guard never gets the credit that they are due. Just watching the video indicates it. They're more than just the "fresh water sailors" the Navy 2:53 makes them out to be. And I say that as a former Marine and retired Navy reservist (Yes, there IS such a thing.). And their march is pretty cool too.

To all the men and women who are serving and have served in the U.S. Coast Guard thank you for your service to our country. Today August 04, 2020 marks the 230th birthday of the U.S. Coast Guard.

My grand father was a coastie during ww2. And died when an artillery shell hit the landing craft he was driving. Anybody who says that the coast guard is stupid, harms the memory of him and other coast guardsmen. And my great uncle was working in Cape cod the night the Pentledon and fortmercer accidents happened. Of course he was off duty and stuck at home, but he was able to eventually get to the Mercer after it sank and helped with wreckage clean up.

These guns were also issued to British and Commonwealth forces with a different caliber then used by the Americans. One collector's magazine had an article on this revolver and they state that guns that were stamped with USMC do not stand for United States Marine Corps as some might assume but stood for United States Maritime Commission, meaning the Merchant Marines or Maritime Service issued these revolvers to their people. To what extent they were issued or used I'm not sure, however one film from that time showed trainees being taught to use the Colt 45 1911.
