      Thank you very much, Hilary! Your comment means a lot to me. Seriously. ❤I am actually working on a video that will show the process of turning theory into practice. I will go through each element of my lesson plan and show how the written word comes to life through various games and activities in a real classroom. The point is to show that lesson plans help you "see" the lesson before it happens.

    Hello, thank you for another fun video! Do you find yourself teaching 10-15 words per class to teenage students? The 4-6 words for class works great in younger classes, but I am expected to teach more vocabulary to students each class (even though long term retention of the influx of new words is questionable). Do you have any advice for ways to help students when classes have "denser vocabulary per class" expectations?

    • @Teacher-Val
      @Teacher-Val Před 7 dny

      Good question! Generally, for primary school, it's recommended to introduce about 4 to 6 new words per lesson. However, in middle school, it's acceptable to increase that to around 10 to 12 new words. Remember, the exact number depends on factors like students' proficiency level, age, attention span, and the complexity of the words being taught. Some students can handle 15 words. Some can barely do 3.

    Почему нас не учат этому в университете?

    • @Teacher-Val
      @Teacher-Val Před 7 dny

      😂😂😂 It depends on the education program and university. Many education programs focus more on theory and research forgetting about the practical teaching skills. Practical teaching skills often require hands-on experience, ongoing mentorship, and opportunities for reflection and feedback, which may be challenging to provide within the framework of a university course.

    The words in Chinese- are they meanings of the English words or how to read the English words?

    • @Teacher-Val
      @Teacher-Val Před 8 dny

      The words in Chinese are the translations of the English words. English is a phonetic language whereas Chinese is a pictogram-based language which means that Chinese cannot alter the "spelling" of a word to express a change in meaning as it is done in English. Chinese has no prefixes or suffixes and instead uses auxiliary words to express moods, cases and voices. As a teacher, you must also remember that Chinese has no articles, no singular or plural nouns, no distinction between countable and non-countable nouns, no verb tenses because Chinese verbs do not express time, but simply action, no nominative cases, etc. :)

      @@Teacher-Val wow. Very interesting. I am not Arab and I teach a class of predominantly Arab speakers. Your reply made me think that I should perhaps look at the Arabic language and the difference between Arabic and English more closely to cater to my ESL learners.

    • @Teacher-Val
      @Teacher-Val Před 7 dny

      @@nidajk8565 Yes, I think you should. 😉 It's easy to assume that students grasp everything we teach them, but what seems straightforward to us might be confusing or even incomprehensible for them. It's helpful to compare the students' native language (L1) with the language we're teaching to understand any differences.

    To be fair, even simple things like "dance" or "swim" that can be easily represented with pictures van be misunderstood by students who lack a more rational sequencing. I have had students look at a picture like the "dancing" one and infer "happy", or "ball" or "spin", especially young learners or adults who are learning their second language late, so I don't think it would cause any harm to clarify with the student's L1 afterwards, especially if you consider that they are necessarily going to "think" that word in their head in L1 as they understand anyway.
