    NICOTINE ACTIVATES the parts of the brain which Scream "GIVE ME MORE DRUGS" no other substance does this, the brain remains soaking up drugs and need for more after the drug is gone physically. Nicotine IS the Gateway drug to all other drugs. Simple Fact. Nicotine leads to drug addiction & Alcohol.

    Dopamine isn't rewarding, it's motivating. I've binged on crack, it doesn't actually feel good, quite horrible actually. You just feel compelled to do it, even as it ruins your night and leaves your bank account empty. It is like having a carrot on a stick you can never reach that you endlessly chase until you are exhausted. No release, only endless compulsion with the constant expectation that it'll feel great, you convince yourself, but when you really look at what it does and how it makes you feel objectively, you realize that it's not pleasure, it is suffering, instantly from the first dose!

    Dr. Tookes, I enjoyed watching your video discussing harm reduction. I enjoyed listening to the statistic that those who use syringe service programs are five times as likely to seek treatment, and getting them life-saving medication also guides them to recovery. Harm reduction services make a difference and have a powerful impact on the outcome of someone's life.

    Hello Dr. Volkow, I enjoyed watching this video, and I am curious to see where the research goes regarding how addiction affects some but not others. I feel they will find that the people who have addictions may have more childhood or adult trauma than those who do not have an addiction. I have learned there is no such thing as a recovered drug addict. Just turn your back on them and forget the easiest. The moment I did that with my ex the pain stopped I didn't worry about her. I wish you would have made better choices. But she chose to be homeless and prostitute herself and to get drugs living under a bridge in Chicago and Kedzie in Chicago. She's actually beautiful white girl kind of chubby kind of smart fan she actually has a great oral hygiene so she has all her teeth. But she can cannot get help so fuck it I can keep promoting my time on her. People care about yourself over other people because he's heroin addicts they don't care they don't care at all forget the exist

    Dopamine does have something to do with us feeling euphoria, but that's more serotonin than dopamine. Serotonin also makes us sleepy. Probably because it takes the piss out of you. Well, dopamine takes it out of you while serotonin knocks it out of you. That's another reason why you feel tired after being very happy for a good bit of time. The neuron of dopamine is also not what gives you massive levels of energy. It gives you some energy, but it's mostly norepinephrine and epinephrine(noradrenaline and adrenaline) that gives you that. That all has to do with the NMDA receptors; N-Methyl D-Aspartate. The neurons that bind to NMDA receptors are norepinephrine, epinephrine, and glutamate. The neuron glutamate is what gives you excitement. Cocaine binds to the D1-Like receptors(D1 and D5) as well as NMDA receptors. Crank(crystal meth) and Desoxyn(methamphetamine hydrochloride) both bind to D2-Like receptors(D2, D3, and D4). Also, Adderall binds to D1 and D2 receptors, but I'm not sure which of the types and/or subtypes of amphetamine in it is responsible for it binding to both D1 and D2. Maybe it's because all of these different amphetamines are working on the CNS. Who knows! Anyways, I hope this helps some of you.

    • @2SecondsAgo
      @2SecondsAgo Před měsícem

      Also, anything that interacts with your serotonin is going to create the possibility of you seeing things or going into psychosis. I think Schizophrenia had more to do with serotonin than dopamine. I personally don't think dopamine has anything to do with causing Schizophrenia... at all. All it is, is that people with Schizophrenia and Schizoeffective Disorder just so happen to have higher levels of dopamine. Maybe that's the brains way of trying to make things not as bad for you as possible. I think anything with "Schizo" in it is caused by having deja vu either too many times and/or it happened for longer lengths of time than the average person. We also know living in the city also has something to do with it, too. Maybe those were the people in the city who had lots of deja vu and lived a life completely opposite of life in the country because the city, in some ways(a lot of ways), is not the natural world. It's not what nature created. A lot of them may have also been really strange people before they developed it. I'm a weird dude, but... I'm not strange. Kind of like what Waylon Jennings sang: "I've always been crazy, but it's kept me from going insane."
