I also came up with the idea of using ibr roofsheeting because of the "channels" between the ridges and I am so glad to have found this video that proves that it will work in practice
Good day Dennis can you share a video or link that shows how to set up that watering aqua system especially on that plastic bottle part. Regards Dumi Masinga (South Africa)
Not sure where you come from but the grazing can be pretty ordinary in Victoria in the winter. Bellies are good foragers but I guess them that say they can get fat in a parking lot come from places that have a lot of rain
Hi, well we are not on the land any more, and the pigs have gone. We sometimes did feed the pigs the fodder, depending what we had. Most of them were out on the pasture and didn't need it, so it went mostly to the cattle.
Good technology.Such a question: water flows from the bottom of barley. The upper part does not grow. How does this affect the yield of the crop? What is the temperature and humidity in the greenhouse?
After having this system in place for years, do you still think it works for you? I have been told it won't work in a greenhouse. I am wondering what your opinion is. Does it work?
Sold up the farm. The system worked fine in the poly tunnel, just a bit slower than a commercial setup. Really depends on just how cold it gets in winter. I’d you get 3 feet of snow it probably won’t work in winter
@@dennisfranklin5346 thanks for the reply. We are having a severe draught and hay and crops are failing. We are looking at fodder for part of the solution. Heat will be a drawback here, not extreme cold in the winter. thanks, again
Excellent economical DIY system. May I suggest that you use polycarbonate sheeting instead of galvanised ? With the sheeting being continuously wet the steel sheet will rust through fairly quickly.
@@dennisfranklin5346 Hello Dennis can you share a link of videos showing DIY aquaponic flushing system. I want to make one. Regards Dumi (South Africa)
I wonder if a mild compost tea would up the nutrient content. My chickens drink compost tea over filtered water and i use it to soak their grains for feeding. A worm farm would provide a suitable product and house it in the greenhouse and process excess product, or keep a mower there also and feed the worms lawn clippings. Alternatively, a molasses solution, or seaweed solution could be an easier alternative. Just spitballing here, your system is already amazing. As you know people out there spend a lot of money an complicated systems that would produce a product that is certainly no better than yours. This video deserves many more views and I’m sure that in the fullness of time it will reach the audience it is due.
I have watched a lot of videos about growing fodder and always wondered if you could just grow it in greenhouse. Thanks for proving you can. I am presently looking for a place with a reasonable price to buy seed near Dallas, Tx. So far, all are too expensive. Thanks for your great video and instructions.
I've relocated to California and it shouldn't be too much longer before I have a small homestead where I can have a couple of Belties! I'll have a small place so I'll probably get minis. 6, maybe 8 head.
Great video. I like your thinking because it is easily scalable and with lille effort I can see your system feeding 1000 cows on a dairy farm. Your 8 day cycle may need some work as a lot are turning out their produce 4 - 6 days. Maybe lighting or humidity etc. Anyway fantastic start and hope it goes well for you.
Genius, I was planning to spend thousands of dollars to build a hydroponic system for my goats fodder, you spent probably less than a thousand on this brilliant eco system. God bless👍
Exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks mate! I'm off to build one now to feed our horses but I'll be recirculating the water. My shade house is close enough to the house that I can run a small pump on a timer.
this is the best i have ever seen on youtube. Your design is really different and very cheap in costructing. really cost effective. thanks for sharing this video.
Your greenhouse in my opinion, is really good idea as its low cost and economical.but gravity feeding of water may cause extra moisture in this long tray that can welcome fungus and in this way seedlings may be rotten. Isn't it?
Are you still running this system?
I also came up with the idea of using ibr roofsheeting because of the "channels" between the ridges and I am so glad to have found this video that proves that it will work in practice
You are running a homemade fodder factory?

Brilliant! Exactly what we need
beautiful diy setup
Seems like alot of effort; aren't belties known for being able to get fat on grass? (Don't they say they could get fat in a parking lot?)

Why is your grass so short?
@Dennis Franklin, this just came up in my feed after 3 years, I am now wondering what has happened to 80 Acre Farm?
Nice video. I was wondering why dont you feed barley fodder to pigs?

@@dennisfranklin5346 Thanks! Was it dairy or beef cattle ? How much did you fed them and did you mix it with something else?

Sold up. Too much work for an old guy

You really have to get it in bulk, and I had no success with other types of fodder, just the barley.

How much cows you can feed out of 100kg seeds??
First class Dennis. I love the simplicity of your system and will definitely us it.
This is the most ingenious system I’ve seen so far! Simple, effective, economical - Well done this man!

Beautiful cattle!
Hi Dennis, I am wondering what your average and low winter temps are where you live
Average day temp about 12 deg C in July, min overnight temp in July about -4 deg C
Instead of using a toilet flushing mechanism .... a bell siphon could work , no moving parts .....
Are you stiII growing and feeding the barley to your cows what is your lowest temps in the green house
Good design, cost effective does the sun get to every corrugation? What is the orientation east west etc.

you are focusing on making the system to work but the fodder does not benefit the animals at all NO NUTRIENTS LEFT IN THE FODDER
