Me and my mate Simon do a night ride to Blackstone Edge on the Pennine Moors. It's difficult enough following the path on the boulder strewn Blackstone Edge when walking in daylight, never mind when on a bike in the dark, but we managed to get through and back safely. I hope you enjoy our little adventure.

In June 2018, I was cycling along the River Weaver near Northwich in Cheshire, when I came across a family of Mute Swans. Join me to see if I succeeded in getting past.

Firstly, we headed west towards Llandudno and then climbed up to the summit of the Great Orme from the one-way toll road (free for bikes). We then completed the circuit of the Great Orme arr...

Always enjoy your videos Dave. Great countryside around there, looked lovely. Looks like you had a few "senior moments" there, forgetting your tools and drink and not locking your bike up🤣😁 we all do stuff like that at times though..... Glad it's not only me!! Great stuff. Keep it up mate. Well done 👍
@WitmeisterYT Thanks a lot for your kind comments, as always 👍 Yeah, muppet moments I call them. Hopefully, they won't get any more frequent when I become an "official" muppet (OAP) this year...🤣 All the best, Dave
Nice vid Dave. 👌 I've got the "Lost Lanes" series of guidebooks, some good routes around there in "Lost Lanes Central" that we've mixed and matched a few years back. Nice scenery 👍🏻
@PuddledPete Thanks a lot Pete. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Yeah, my second days ride was loosely based on no.4 in that book. They are beautifully illustrated guidebooks and I've often got my head in them when I'm not out riding. All the best and happy cycling...🚲
“What a muppet🙄”😂😂 silly mistake that could cost you a lot of time, it’s good that you went back for the tools.
@chrism2055 Better to have and not need. Thank you for watching and commenting...👍

Wheres that climb after monsal trail in bakewell as i rode opposite way up church lane in rowsley through the farm to the start of the monsal trail
Hi there, to get on the climb at Bakewell I came out of the old station car park and crossed back over the Monsal Trail heading NE. This is Station Lane and goes up to a sharp right bend and then climbs through woods onto Handley Lane heading for Pilsley. There's a sign at the start saying unsuitable for motors, but the road isn't too bad, all tarmac, if a little broken in places. Thanks for watching the video...👍
Right let me say it's the first time I've seen your vids. Absolutely brilliant. Fantastic music. I'm into wild camping vids. But to combine what you do with camping is pure bliss. If only I had the balls to do it.😅
Thank you very much for your kind comments, and thanks for watching my videos. I'm glad you enjoy them. It gives me inspiration to do more of this sort of stuff when I get nice comments like yours. Thanks again...👍🚲
Do you put your rides on komoot
@@themackeler5011 All my rides are on my Strava. Thanks for watching 👍
@@davidbenson735 thanks great commentary and great vidioes I'm 74 done some of high peak and heanor to Carsington water so have some of your outlooks on life but it's great to ride in the countryside
Thanks again. Good to hear you are still enjoying your cycling, especially in the beautiful countryside we have here in the UK. I'm a mere 66 and hope I'm still cycling at 74 and beyond. I have met a lady cyclist at a local cafe recently who is still riding there every week at the grand old age of 92. Amazing...! All the best and happy cycling...🚴🏻♂️
Hi Dave love the videos, do you film on a iphone and what type of camera is fitted to your bars ?
Hi Lucas, thanks for watching my videos and commenting. I'm glad you enjoy them. The main camera that I use is a Sony SteadyShot, which I can easily pull out of my jersey pocket whilst riding, switch on, and cradle in my "closed" hand. The camera mounted on the bars is an older (now discontinued) TCL SVC200 which I use for extra footage, for example when it's not safe to ride holding the Sony in my hand. All the best, Dave
Looks like a great trail.
Thanks for watching and commenting, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Cheers 👍🏻
That was so good, I'll probably never get back to the UK but if you ever decide to add gpx files for your rides I can dream and add them to my bucket list. Thanks for sharing your rides, they are a real treat.
Thank you so much for watching the video and your lovely comments...👍🏻 I wouldn't know how to add gpx files and from past experience CZcams seems to block any added links. However, if you wanted to see my rides they are all on my Strava account, and you are very welcome to use them whenever. All the best and happy cycling...🚴🏼😀
Wonderful routes, cafes and Youth Hostel. Can only imagine having so much choice of trails.
Thanks for watching and commenting Ali. Yeah, I was spoilt for choice again in Derbyshire, it's such a lovely place to ride a bike. The hostel was very relaxed. It almost felt like my own country mansion at times...😂 All the best and happy cycling and walking in beautiful Pembrokeshire.
Come and stay in Pembrokeshire before we move ! Rich can put some 'superb' routes together - with cafe stops 😀
@@AliWade1971 Yeah, that would be "superb". Thanks, I should try and do that...
Lovely ride my friend. I like the color scheme of your bike as well!
Thanks very much Josh. Not much dry stone wall action in this one, I'm afraid, but the scenery is stunning in Derbyshire, none the less. Yeah, I love the colour of my Pinnacle, even if it's not very stealthy 😂 It's such a comfy ride too, probably 'cos of the longish wheelbase. Thanks for watching and commenting. All the best, Dave
@@davidbenson735 oh, I thought there was plenty of stone. Way more than I’m used to seeing around here anyway. I’m almost done with my studies for awhile… and you have inspired me to set out on some adventures before the weather turns cold. Looking forward to your next adventure.
That's great Josh, I'm so pleased I've inspired you to venture out on more adventures. When I set up my channel a few years back, it was just to record my rides for myself and a couple of mates who sometimes joined me. To now know that people like yourself are getting inspiration from the videos gives me a great deal of pleasure. I too, am looking forward to your next adventure on your bike. All the best. Take care, Dave
Love it round that area, you missed a really nice cafe in Hartington though, it's just opposite the pay and display car park as you enter Hartington, they do some lovely cakes 😁 Coffee is rxc there too, we used to go there at the end of a ride for a treat. Another great video, really enjoyed it as usual 👍👍
Thanks very much for watching and commenting. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks also for the tip about the cafe in Hartington, I'll have to give it a try next time I'm that way. All the best, Dave and happy cycling 🚲
I’m glad it’s not just me that talks to the cows as you pass byi
Ha ha, yeah and the sheep too 😂 Thanks for watching and commenting. All the best Andy and happy cycling...🚲
'The observer book of quarries' made me laugh. Took me back to the 70's 😅. We've all done that with the water bottle and toolkit. You did right going back when you aren't local. Another great vid 👍
Thanks for watching, commenting and enjoying my "humour". As for the bottles, I've always been told "better to have and not need, rather than the opposite". All the best and happy cycling...🚲
Nice one, I did the Monsal and Tissing trails a few years ago.
Thank you very much for watching and commenting. I'm glad you enjoyed my video. Happy cycling...🚲
Cracking video again Dave you do more miles on your bike than Keith does in his truck 😂 keep them coming mate 😊
Thanks a lot Paul. Maybe Keith should join me on my next adventure, 2 Old Blokes on Bikes...😂 All the best.
Another great video! I did the same trails last year with my son. That hill on the way up to the high peaks trail was hard! We dubbed it “Horror Show hill”. Once you get to the top that ride to Parsley hay is great. 👍🏼
Cheers for watching the video and commenting, I'm pleased that you enjoyed it. The hills are an ever-present feature away from the railway trails, and like you say, some are "horror shows". All the best and happy cycling...🚲
That was a very nice video Dave, i know a lot of that area quite well, i was in Hartington area in 2019, and Longnor area 2018, great pubs and stayed on a campsite right beside the village with firepit hire lovely! It is frustrating when you forget something or two, it's maybe an age thing but regardless of age it's mostly because you just want to get going and the inevitable happens! I have been enjoying your videos which are new to me for short while now and look forward to seeing more as i like you sense of humour and your bike touring thanks for sharing Dave !
Thank you for watching my videos and your very kind comments. I try to exercise my "chuckle muscles" as well as my leg muscles when I'm making these videos...😂 I'm glad you are enjoying the videos. All the best, Dave...👍
👍🏻 nice video
Thank you, glad you enjoyed my video...👍 Thanks for watching and commenting.
Good vid, I used to do a lot of riding around there. Not surprised you didn't stick around in Hartington, it's a beautiful village completely filled (ruined...) with cars
Thanks for watching and commenting. Shame about all the cars in Hartington, it looks a lovely place. Happy cycling...🚲
High peak trail was brilliant, seen quite a few CZcams vids in Derbyshire......nice area. 'Ull' east yorkshire.
Thanks for watching and commenting. You're right, Derbyshire is a great place to ride a bike, very scenic, but hilly 🥵 Cheers
Found your channel and come over from Erie by cycle channel, great videos, seems like i have some catching up 😂 all the best from a fellow uk bike channel 👍

Enjoyed that thank you. Know Mastiles Lane well, that descent into Kilnsey is great on an MTB ;-)

Great vid as per usual, looks like a stunning place for a ride 👍👍
Thank you very much for watching and commenting. The Yorkshire Dales is one of my favourite places to ride my bike. Glorious country lanes...🚴🏻♂️
Dave we were late to this fantastic video! This was brilliant, proper tuff ride on that Roman road in that heat, Simone (her indoors) says she’ll have a word with the Romans about the state of their roads! Loved the music that was playing as you rode into Settle. 👌👌 Oh and what a fantastic breakfast you cooked, I’m starving again now !😂👌👌❤️🚴♀️🚴♀️
Thanks a lot Les and Simone, I'm so pleased that you enjoyed the video...👍🏻 Thanks for your great comments, it makes all the hard work all the more worthwhile. The music at the end was 'Floating Home" by Brian Bolger and that's exactly how I felt at that stage. All the best, Dave
@@davidbenson735 absolutely fantastic Dave! It’s Myles and Simone Have a great week
@m1les7 Thanks Myles...👍
Brilliant video Dave was asking Keith when the next one was due it's been well worth the wait the last day was a tough one I was knackered just watching you cheers looking forward to the next one already
Thanks a lot Paul. Yeah, I got to the point on Mastiles Lane where I began to get a little worried about heatstroke. But I was halfway across, and thought "bugger it", no point going back now...😂 All the best, Dave
High flying birds 👍👍👍do you suffer from bovinephobia 🐂
👍🏻 Love their music Yeah, I'm well frightened of them when they have calves with them 😂 Thanks for watching and commenting.
Great video. The legendary 3peaks cyclocross race starts and finishes out side the pub at Helwith Bridge
Thanks you very much for watching and commenting. I bet that's a tough race. I didn't know it started there, thanks...👍🏻 The competitors can have a well deserved pint afterwards.
It may be called hay fever but it is pollen, not hay that people are allergic to lol.
Ha ha 🤣 Thanks for watching and commenting.
Great film, I've cycled all those roads many times, including Mastiles Lane. The Helwith Bridge Inn has a hut in the car park with four beds and basic cooking facilities. Its very cheap and cheerful, but could be a base for you and your pals. I stayed last year on my own for a tenner a night having cycle over from Rossendale. There's a toilet in the car park and the beer and food is excelent. You'll need sleeping bags.
Thanks a lot for watching the video, I'm glad you enjoyed it. And thanks also for the detailed information about the accommodation at Helwith Bridge. That could be useful for a small group excursion in the cooler months, when camping isn't suitable. Thanks again and happy cycling...🚴🏻♂️
Great video, thank you for putting it together. Some riding there that I think I will try in the near future. Cheers.
Thank you very much... I hope you enjoy the rides as much as I did on my trip. All the best....🚴🏻♂️
Great video Dave. Really enjoyed that. Glad you remembered your 2 fried eggs in the pan! 😂
Thanks a lot, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Yeah, I was really looking forward to soft "eggs over easy" but they turned out solid! What a muppet for forgetting about them...😂 Thanks for watching and commenting. All the best, Dave 🚴🏻♂️
That was a great vid. Thanks very much! The character of Yorkshire really came across. No better than on a bike 👍
Thank you very much for watching and your kind comments. I'm glad you enjoyed Yorkshire from my bike...😀
Nice one ...👍
Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers...👍🏻
A+++. Very nice video. I think I would do your last day on a MTB or fat bike. Some of those tracks are in better condition than the roads around where I live. What make is your bike? It looks like a Ti Van Nicholas? Have you done a review of it? Would be very interested if you haven't. ATB.
Thanks a lot for watching and commenting...👍🏻 It would definitely have been easier doing Mastiles Lane on an MTB due to the loose stones etc. My bike is a Ribble Gravel Ti Sport with a Shimano GRX 12 speed groupset and 40mm tyres. Happy cycling...🚴🏻♂️
@@davidbenson735 Thank you for your reply. I shall check it out. Looks very nice. Riding it in it's spectacular home terrain. Can't be bad.
Yeah, it did cross my mind whilst there. Ribble bike at Ribblehead...😀
I rode around the Malham Cove area as a young lad then we moved to Australia when I was 12 years old in 1965. I always enjoy seeing all the marvellous Yorkshire countryside from the seat of a bike. You brought back so many fond memories for me.😊
Hi there in Australia. Thank you for watching and commenting. It gives me a lot of satisfaction knowing that I have brought back those fond memories of the Yorkshire Dales for you. It is one of my favourite areas of the UK. All the best...🚴🏻♂️
Lovely video.
Thank you very much for watching. And thank you for commenting...👍🏻
I really enjoyed that video, nice one!
Thanks a lot for the nice comment. It makes all the hard work worthwhile to hear that people are enjoying the video. Thanks again...👍
I was just thinking of you the other day… and here you pop up. Now have you taken up to Penny Gent before? I thought you had. This was really quite the adventure. I’m amazed by those tiny country roads. Here in the US I think every thing is a 4 lane highway. Beautiful countryside and great video! Thanks a bunch!!!
Hi Josh. Yeah, you are right, I did a trip to the Yorkshire Dales last summer and also cycled around Pen-y-Ghent, but on different roads that time. Well remembered. It got a bit tough on the very hot day across Mastiles Lane, and as you probably saw in the video, I was very relieved to finally reach the cafe. But, at the same time I felt a great sense of achievement in riding across that track. The narrow country roads are wonderful until you meet a tractor coming the other way, which happened a few times on the trip (they were busy transporting the cut hay back to the farms). Thanks again for watching the video and commenting. Much appreciated. Have a great summer in Erie...👍🏻🚴🏼
Nice video and some crackin' rides. Let's hope you haven't used up all the good weather for the summer 😎🌞
@PuddledPete Thanks a lot Pete 👍 When I saw the forecast, I just booked the trip immediately. I really do hope we get some more decent weather before the summer is out🤞 Thanks again for watching and commenting. Happy cycling 🚲
Great video, thank you. I love Ingleton, have been there on holiday every year since 2012, going again in September. I’ve cycled the route you did on the first night many times. How far was the route on day 2 please? I want to try some different routes this year. How was the campsite? I saw your video from last year, where you stayed near Malham, which campsite did you prefer? Thanks again.
@RMSM0204 Hi there. The route on day 2 was a total of 53 miles, which included 13 miles each way getting to Kirky Lonsdale and back. The campsite was brilliant, very clean toilets and showers. Plus, a bar on site, open mainly at weekends but during the week in main summer holidays. A bit of road noise from the A65 but not too bad. I preferred this campsite over the Malham one. Thanks very much for watching the video and commenting. Much appreciated 👍
@@davidbenson735thanks for the info. I’ll check out that route, I’ll be starting in Ingleton, so won’t be quite so far. I’m in the VERY flat Fens, so it’s a bit of a shock to the system when I get to the Dales! I love it though. Thanks
