EndoActivator vs. PUI vs. PIPS Laser vs. VDW Eddy
Information: I do not know why, but this video was reuploaded by youtube, it belongs to the other video from Dezember 2016. Here I show the effect of 4 different means for activation of endodontic irrigants in cut-off syringes 5ml containing about 1ml of water. Phosphoric acid was placed on bottom to enhance the visibility of the effects. From left to right: EndoActivator by Dentsply, passive ultrasonic irrigation (PUI) with NSK NiTi insert, Fotona PIPS 400 fiber, EDDY tip by VDW in Air Scaler.

I glued them together facing each other with Clip Flow and filled the root canal space with phosphoric acid. Again, I used phosphoric acid as an endodontic pulp analog, just to clarify the action. Sorry to say, but ur video doesn’t demonstrate any valuable information. 1.- the model is not appropriate 2.- To allow sonic and US tip vibrate freely without any interferences (direct contact with root canal walls) invalidate your methodology 3.- That is not the right way to use and hold PIPS tip.

David, look how old this video is- and it's still being clicked, even by you. Why is that? Lack of alternatives on CZcams I assume.CZcams deleted my first uploads which included more detailed explaining subtitles, and when reuploading, I simply did not wanted to put any more effort into it, people DID NOT READ THOSE SUBTITLES in the first place. Do you know why I did not put any more effort for clarification into those videos? Our partner in crime Oscar von Stetten used/uses this/my videos for a prime example of HOW IT SHOULD NOT BE DONE. Can you imagine the humiliation- for him - when I found out? Just kidding, Oscar has a special place in our heart, doesn't he? The best part is that I do not care, as this video was supposed to be the starting point of a series with changing conditions ( as explained in the subtitles), but since I was instantly bombarded with not practical criticism ( for example I was never shown a fitting bench test), I just let it roll. Before this setup I even asked Gentlewave for a way to test the system, but nobody even cared to answer my emails. Regarding PIPS: what is the roght way to hold and use it? Just trying to keep up with the constant changes leaves me clueless 😅...When I even remember correctly from one of the last endodontic Congresses, PIPS was claimed to be a " useless 60.000 bucks expensive toy". I like it and love to use it, and even though literature has or will find it of no use in the future, I prefer to have it at hand together with my Eddy, Gentlewave never made it to Germany for a reason I assume 😉

Eddy works great for me. The eddy tip is gentle to the canal wall, also in curved canals. It doesnt separate easily but if it does, it is easy to remove. Just continue rinsing or if it is stuck place a hedstrom file in it. Its efficacy is supported by research now too. I expected good results because of the literature on manually activated disinfection. (Moving a guttapercha point up and down) but eddy brings much more energy to the fluids. Love it with edta in narrow canals during preparation too and also with a solvent during retreatment.
