Really excited for you!! Im actually 4 wks into Med Sch. It's incredible to see what you have been working on for so long finally come to reality. May I ask a few questions about your journey? Was the medical experience program you did in Ecuador an opportunity offered by your undergraduate institution? And did you take the MCAT during your junior year or after undergrad? I was wondering how your were able to balance focusing on undergrad work if you prepared for and took the MCAT during your undergrad. Thank you and can't wait to see you start classes!
Thank you!! So I took my MCAT the summer after my sophomore year and went to Ecuador the summer after my junior year and it was through my institution. Hope that was helpful 😊

Thank you for sharing - I was wondering to ask for some advice as a non traditional with a low GPA with a strong upward trend. I’ve been worried with an overall cumulative gpa of 3.18 after a post bac, 3.4 science gpa (due to taking a lot of sciences later), and a 507 MCAT with a low CARS. I feel confident with the rest of my application, just worried about my stats, especially the low GPA. I have averaged a 3.8 GPA for the last 70 units - my freshman and sophomore GPA were very poor, but I am not the same student during that time. Should I be worried about not getting into an allopathic medical school or an interview? I know DO medical schools would be a good fit for me from what I have been told. However, I have always aimed to get to allopathic medical schools. Sorry for a lot of the information, and thank the for the content and help.
as long as you have a good explanation of why your GPA is on the lower end on your application and you have a good story I think you should be fine. I would recommend you should apply to DO schools as well but I don't think it will prevent you from getting an interview at an MD school. Make sure you have strong secondaries and submit them on time. When it's time for interviews, prepare by doing mock interviews always emphasize on your "why medicine" whenever you can. The best advice I can give you is to be confident during your interviews because they can tell when you're not. And do not let your grades define you, although they are important, concentrate on what you can do now to improve your application now!

Part of my story and ambitions towards being a doctor was one made out of inspiration and aiming for the highest I’ve wanted since childhood. She studying abroad In Portugal this summer. She heard clinical hours is suggested. She is freaking out. She is a premed chem major. She is 18. Please give any advice. TIA
I had just finished my MCAT after my sophomore year while volunteering. I got most of my clinical hours in my study abroad trip the summer after my junior year. I had 30hours of shadowing in my junior year. Tell her not to freak out she is only 18 and has lots of time to get everything she needs! The first step is to be aware of what she needs and make a plan to get it so she is on the right track!!!

@@genejaytre no I self studied with no tutor but from my experience I would recommend getting a tutor for problem areas if your MCAT budget allows!

Hey Emma! Congratulations on getting into med school and taking the first step to becoming a doctor I just wanted your opinion: I got my score back and I got a 492. I’m scheduled to do a retake sometime later in July. My GPA is at 3.6 and the rest of my application is very strong. I’m applying only DO schools, what are your thoughts?
Thank you!!! I would recommend that after you retake it to send second your 2nd score in to the schools when it comes out. In the meantime make sure your primaries, secondaries, and extracurricular activities tell a cohesive and compelling story about your why medicine!!
@@emmadozie awesome! I know a lot of schools are trying to look at applications more holistically, do you have any tips on how your interviews went and what they were really for for?
I would say you should look up practice MMI questions and get used to talking about your application and get familiar with your application. Using practice questions online we’re really helpful!! Try to do some mock interviews either online with someone familiar with the process or in person!

Hello, what scores were you getting on blueprint? Can I trust these scores?
Hey I think the scores are pretty accurate but not as accurate as aamc exams. It’s a good practice tool when you are still learning material and early in the practicing phase but when it gets closer to the exam date like a 1 month out I would recommend using aamc practice exams because they are worded similarly to the exam and the score is very accurate. My last aamc practice exam was exactly what I got on the MCAT for reference.
