      Hi there! So for this particular door we did a 1-1, so one coat primer, one coat top coat (paint) depending on how it’s applied you might need more, or depending on your prep work it might need another coat to get the sheen even and not splotchy

      Well thank you for watching it! If you’re spraying the products I’m using in this video I would encourage not going smaller than a 10 orifice size, so with this Graco quick shot I use a 210 tip, on our bigger rigs I prefer a 310 or 410. If we’re spraying thinner products (industrial grade) we use 206, 306, 308, 408.

    easiest doors to paint by hand. i only spray smooth doors. also bad primer for this use something like ben moore fresh start high build because it sands easier and powders up nicely

    • @SupernalPaintingUSA
      @SupernalPaintingUSA Před 4 měsíci

      Anything is easy to paint by hand if you have enough time and don’t care about the finished product. Why would I use a high volume solid primer if I’m intentionally not flat sanding and don’t want to overfill the intentional embossed grain we bought the door for? We just wanted to increase adhesion, if we were going for flat we definitely would’ve went with a industrial coating but that defeats the whole purpose of these doors

    • @doomslayerforever2858
      @doomslayerforever2858 Před 4 měsíci

      Hey Ben! The quick shot is great for small projects, we use it often for on site touchups post install of countertops, trim, etc. if you dial it in I think you can get a great finish on cabinets, especially Spraying horizontally, spraying vertically is definitely more tricky but it can be done I think

    • @SupernalPaintingUSA

      Hey Justin! We do. So for Industrial Grade Coatings we really like CIC Coatings 1108 and 1107 primers, their new Primer 1111 is a mix of both and is a great hybrid of both worlds I think

  • @112wade
    @112wade Před 4 měsíci

    I just finished spraying 2 preprimed doors very similar to yours, except mine had no embossed grain. Instead of Emerald Urethane, which takes so long to cure, I used SW Gallery. The first door I sprayed when it was cold,( around 45-50 degrees), took a long time to dry. The second time it was warmer and dried much quicker. What I did not do was apply a primer since I figured the factory one was ok. I scuff sanded with Surf Prep pads and sprayed. The first door I sprayed with the QuickShot, like you, and the 2cd with a Kremlin AAA. Surprisingly, the QuickShot gave a better lay down than the Kremlin. Once all settled the Kremlin looked just as good, but it still surprised me it had an orange peel when I sprayed. I slightly thinned, maybe 5%, and still had orange peel. While the finish was good, I'm wondering if I should have primed like you did. I'll try that next time. Thanks for the video, always looking ways to improve.

    • @SupernalPaintingUSA
      @SupernalPaintingUSA Před 4 měsíci

      Hey Wade, I appreciate the comment. SW Gallery is a great Sherwin product, we use it weekly here, the AAA Kremlin is a fantastic gun too, we normally are running big airless rigs or AAA when we’re doing our large projects but I bust out the quick shot for small projects like this here. Do you know how many wet mils you put on the door with both sprayers? In my experience that’s what gets me when I would get orange peel

    • @112wade
      @112wade Před 4 měsíci

      I sprayed Gallery again over the weekend and it laid down a lot better. I think because it was warmer that helped. Also, when I cleaned the gun afterwards, I think I saw some built up 2k material from a previous spray that was partially clogging a couple of holes behind the air cap. I’m pretty sure it’s going to work a lot better next time as I’ve never had the Kremlin lay down anything but glass. I look forward to more of your videos.

      Okay sweet, so painting UV coated side on the outside of cabinets is pretty simple, scuff sand it (but don’t burn through the UV coating, the surface will already be almost perfectly flat to begin with. Then like always prime it (we use industrial grade coatings for that but you could use architectural paint), scuff sand again and top coat. If you play your cards right you could be done with coating/painting it in two coats instead of three

      Hey there! Sorry we're just now seeing this, in these scenarios we normally use a Artist brush and put 1-3 Light Coats, where we do one coat with the brush strokes going vertical and then one coat with them going horizontal and so on until the brushstrokes are minimal and aren't noticed. What did you end of doing to resolve the problem?

  • @csimet
    @csimet Před 8 měsíci

    I did the same using the exact same products, but rolled mine with a thin nap foam roller. I had travertine tile which has a texture anyway. The SW enamel smooths out nicely as long as you maintain a wet edge... easy to do with a backsplash since it usually is not a large area. Three coats minimum. Wash the tile at least twice, once with a scrub pad making sure to get into the grout lines well and another with a white rag. Keep doing it until the rag stays clean. Final step was a wipe down with denatured alcohol just prior to primer. It is critical to get good adhesion. I'd also recommend a very light sanding of the Zinsser to remove any imperfections since it dries so fast and is tough to get a perfectly smooth layer. Came out beautifully and save $$$ over the pain of replacing the tile.
