Slow It Down, You Guys
Nice long attack (on the Subharm, at least) and decay, lots of reverb and ping-pongy delay. The visuals suck, I know. Just close your eyes, slap on the headphones, and enjoy. Features the old finger tip-on-the-patch cord trick to modulate the oscillators.

Labyrinth and Subharmonicon, Round 2

In the first Lab Subharm video, I clocked them both via MIDI clock. It sounded ok, but not quite right. I had tried clocking the Lab from the Sub, but the Lab seemed to be a half step behind the Sub. I learned that this was a problem with the Sub clock output being behind the main clock. A firmware update took care of that. Now they sync right up. Here's a kinda wacky sounding video, with the S...

Last night I decided to see how the two Moogs interacted with each other. I hadn't worked the Subharm in a good while, so I had to reacquaint myself with it. After a good bit of fidgeting with all the pitch knobs (I find it hard to zero in the tuning of the Labyrinth's oscillators), I came up with this. Here are links to my other synth related endeavors, if you're so inclined... www.youtube.com...

Playing around with Moog Labyrinth again. This time I'm using the "The Lowlands of Early Evening" patch sheet, with one important exception. The patch cord going from the U MIX 1 2 out jack to the VCW VCA CV in jack is left unplugged at the U MIX 1 2 end. Some pretty extreme modulation is introduced by touching the tip of the patch cord. Hefty delay makes for an even wackier sound. I see where ...

Time for some more Moog Labyrith exploration. First I go over the block diagram of the synth, for a better understanding of how it works. Then i twiddle some knobs for a while. I think the sounds I got from this session are better than from the first. This time, it's being clocked by Logic via MIDI. Enjoy! 00:00 The dry, nerdy part 04:47 The bleepy bloop part

I've been diving into the Arturia PolyBrute for a couple of weeks. This is the first preset, Brute Embrace (patch 1.A1). I may have tweaked it a little at some point. By pressing the HOLD button, you can get an arpeggio effect by hitting each note separately. Envelope generator 3 is set up to loop, so it's retriggering the notes. Here, the 2 lowest notes are played at the same time, for a retri...

Next up is a droney kinda patch. The keyboard is in Unison mode, with Hold on. The first couple of minutes, I'm using oscillator sync, modulated by MG1. I mess around with the MG 1 waveform (descending and ascending ramp) and frequency. Then I bring in some frequency modulation, finally adding more control from the pitch bend wheel, controlling oscillator 1. Fun times!

I recently scored a Korg Mono/Poly, and WOW! This thing is a monster! Here, I'm noodling around with the X-Mod and Sync effects, being controlled by MG 1 (switching the waveform between descending ramp and ascending ramp). The mod wheel is switched to VCO 1/Slave VCO, further controlling the tone. Keyboard Assign Mode is Mono/Unison, for a big fat drone. Of course I had to tweak the filter a bi...
Can You Make Good Music With Bad Synths?

Fleshing out a song idea with two loser synths. A Korg Rhythm 55 clocks an Akai Timbre Wolf via gate converter. The Timbre Wolf sequencer plays voice 1, and also plays two parts of the RedSound Dark Star XP2. Timbre Wolf voice 4 and Dark Star part 3 eke out a melody. A 16 note sequence played against the 3/4 time drum box pattern makes for an interesting, Zappa-ish progression.

I've had this Minibrute for several years, and have never been completely happy with the sounds I was getting from it. Last night I had a breakthrough of sorts. This is a Buchla-inspired patch using the triangle wave and Metalizer (wave folder) knob with modulation. I ran it through a Digitech Digidelay, then on through a Hologram Microcosm. Nice and spaceeyyy.

Do you see the content that you post?
It’s true it doesn’t sound that good on the ears. Not the instruments fault. It’s ok we’re allowed to just have some fun. Doesn’t always have to sound “beautiful”. (But yeah this one sounds harsh on the ears. Especially if you have some ear damage like many of us do)
You are an effing madman. I dig it though
Liked and subbed! Just got my Labyrinth a few days ago to pair with my Subharmonicon ;) this sounds great!
Rad! I was planning on pairing the two this weekend! Nice jam man! 🎉
I'd be interested to see how the sub would go taking the melody from the Labryinth so that both were quantised to the same scale.
@@raymiller315 Hmmm. Maybe I'll try that tonight.

Why aren’t you connecting trhe clocks together? Or using a MIDI clock? What i want to understand is there a way to get the generative aspects of both devices to influence each devices pitch and so forth.
Originally I tried clocking the Lab with the Subharm, but the Lab was always running a half step behind. Here they are both clocked by MIDI. Any out-of-syncness is due to the random nature of the Labyrinth. Last night I updated the Subharm firmware, which addresses this issue. (The Subharm clock out ran a step behind the main clock). An initial test showed the two units syncing tight as ticks. I'll play around with them some more tonight.
Bitshift the sequence on the lab up one
It comes together around 3:05. Is syncing an issue? Sounds good when it lines up

Very nice, I try it too with the SubH but it’s hard to tune both and stay in tune….😅….well done! Greetings 🖖👽
Thanks! patience is definitely a virtue when trying to get 8 oscillators to play relevant notes, in tune, from 4 different sequencers.
What kind of inputs are on the back ? Can you plug this into an amp or interface? Excuse my ignorance pls
No problem! There's a headphone out (1/4" jack), a 4 ohm speaker out (RCA jack), line in and out (RCA jacks), Expression pedal in (1/4"), and microphone in (1/4').
Shoulda bought one back in the day when I was on the fence.
I think I appreciate there is oscillator on each of their instruments in this ecosystem. This makes them immediately playable without anything else. I like what this can sound like.it has nuances I like (clangy, buzzy, springy). There’s other things it sounds like I’m not as crazy about, but I think that’s true of all synths.
Just made it on the nord modular G1 sounds just the same . Pretty damn shite that’s what , but not drenched in reverb.
lucky man!! :-)

Its hard watching this, lol.
WOW. Can't wait to get one. I see the Wave Folder.
Haha, way cool. Congrats man ^____^
The price for what you get seems not that bad. At the same time it seems really aimed at the modular crowd many of which will find it at least partly redundant. If just starting down that path this to me seems not the greatest trail head...
Nice story, but you only have one hand? why don't you use both for the live/ free jam?
Great presentation and great musical sounds. I want to buy one now. "Sarcasm off"
i love the sounds from 27:50 , and onwards

Thanks for posting this. Def purchase for me along with the Spectravox. InMusic showing they aren’t going to mess with success. (I hope.) That techno patch shows that it with the DFAM gives you a huge drum Maxine/synth. Those two alone should be a techno artist’s dream.
made in asia, like the spec, if that matters then it matters
At least it's made in Taiwan, and not mainland China.
Very interesting and definintely see one in my future. Will be a great addition to the SS3 on my bench and a great addition to my entire setup.

Just sharing the love, brother.
For sure it's the last time that Moog makes this mistake. Marketing wise it's not the best solution for them I guess. Enjoy it 👌
Thanks for the video but that was so slow I tried speeding it up but then it sounded weird. Needed some edits maybe. Cool you got a vid out before everyone.
I actually like the way this approached. Very informal and exploratory.
only moog i own is the DFAM and looks like its gonna stay that way.
Make me things about Lorre Mill Double Knot
I can see where this is going and it only brings more possibilities for people who do not want modular. This teamed up with the other siblings would be a tour de-force for many. Thx for the upload.

Quiet bleeps, ‘bug zapper’ with ocassional ‘ring mod’, then crackles and pops. Nothing here worthy of the Moog name, nor of its price tag. Robert must be spinning in his grave …
I guess waiting until mylarmelodies does a demo next week to see what it's really capable of, I think so far the Spectravox looks more interesting
@@Jin-Hu Depends on what music you want to make. The Labyrinth looks like it's a great fit for DFAM and Subharmonicon. I like some of the Gamelon-like sounds from the Labyrinth. The Spectravox sounds gorgeous when I stack VCOs on top of each other and feed that through as the carrier, and then apply my voice to it as the program input. It's just the kind of vocoder I've been waiting for.
It has quantized scales, so it's clearly capable of melody and harmony. We just haven't seen that yet.
People like you are a shame for the synth community, because you don‘ have the slightest bit of imagination beyond a bass and a lead from a minimoog. Bob would rotate in his grave, but because such dull people use his instrument. If he would hear that thing he would propably grin and ask, if this is a Buchla…..in a Moog housing.
All these comments and words yet not one thought to ask how much it cost? or is that CZcams Taboo? Everything costs something folks.
should be $600, same as the Spectravox
