#MTT80 // Born on this day in 1882, Stravinsky was a formative influence on MTT’s musical world. As a child in Los Angeles, MTT first saw Stravinsky conduct when he was 10 years old and would go on to observe and work with the great composer during his student years. In this episode of “Keeping Score,” MTT dives into Stravinsky’s most famous work, “The Rite of Spring.”

Today (March 27, 2024) would’ve been the fabulous Sarah Vaughan’s 100th birthday. I was so fortunate to get to work with her on a number of projects, including our 1982 recording of Gershwin Live! with the LA Phil, which won her the GRAMMY for Best Jazz Vocal Album, Female. Here we’re working on Gershwin’s “Sweet and Lowdown.” She was gone too soon, but all the music she left is a gift. #sarahv...

This is brilliant! I love MTT and he's such a wonderful musician and man to listen to! Thanks a lot!
Is that Santa Monica? I lived on 17th Street and San Vincenti, very close to where Ghery now lives. How I wish I could have met and befriended these giants!
0:47 love this part. I would love to see the finale of the last movement as well.
Thanks for posting this. I could watch MTT all day. I love the enthusiasm and joy which emanates from him on the Podium. His gesture to the horns before their wild trills - Mahler is always good to us horn players - was brilliant. His recordings of the complete Mahler Symphonies with the SFSO are amongst the best on the planet! Bravo to all!
yeah but you should hear mozart play it. apparently.
Always good to hear from MTT. Hoping to be at the LSO Mahler 2 in London later in the year!
Simply amazing. jw
Difficult to play composition, but hardly what you could term as music is it ? I love Yuja and on the human side of life, I hope she gets over ok her recent break up with her former boyfriend Klaus Mäkelä.
I love MTT's Mahler. His recordings with the SFSO - not to forget his much earlier ones of Symphonies 3 and 7 with the LSO - are stupendous, especially when played on my Blu-ray player. He is such a great educator as well, following on from his mentor Lennie Bernstein. Great that he's still conducting after his health traumas. He is a major force for good in this evil world!
Hymn to Palestine
amazing
What a joy to watch MTT see his composition spring into glorious life
A happy birthday to James brown! 🎤🎶
Sorry, a bit to mechanical for me.
The music composition , wonder what Chopin would have made of that ?
en passat.. sehr Gut!
❤❤❤
Owns every composition she performs..truly a generational talent!
this woman is not human. she is from a more advanced species. we can look at her like an ape would look at us
When I say this, it's real talk. Im currently 54 years old, and Sarah Vaughan has been my favorite artist of all time. Not being overly dramatic but before I pass away, seeing the full concert of your production Gershwin Live with Sassy would be a Dream Come True ❤❤❤
Keep the tissues handy for this one folks~
i love watching this lady, her face is so animated, like she's talking to the piano.
Actually she is making love with the piano
Sublimeee, Maravilloso!!!❤👏👏👏
What a voice! What musicians! Sometimes I wonder what other time period I would like to have been born in, but things like this make me think that I lucked out pretty damn good.
Thank you, great conductor! fabulous! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
This is breathtaking!
(Almost as good as your delivery of Chopin's 2nd Concerto with Yuja Wang!)
I wish MTT would write more.
The performance is superb. The piece is as well. First time I've heard Thomas's own music. Bernstein and Copland figure into this, but that's a good thing, especially since Thomas has the composing chops to bring it off.
Wow! Jacques Pépin, a true Renaissance man… he is a gift to the world.
Should have been a singer.
Look at the expression on her face.
She likes to play speedy fast music
CZcams should change the comment section to the "fawning" section.
Inspired performance.
Mind boggling playing. Wow!
Beautiful, generous, and confident, she spends countless hours practicing the piano every day. She plays the piano so freely on the stage. Her immortal hands create such beautiful music.
This piece is bullshit. It suggests nothing. It's like an exercise.
You a CZcamsr criticize Yuja Wang who is a world famous and much in demand pianist the world over. You say that you are an experienced musician so if so, when are you going to post some music videos of yourself performing ?
She's amazing - site reading a piece like this during concert performance - i mean what the...
Obviously this is not the first time she has played this piece. I would wager she didn't use the "cheat sheet" (that is a joke) very much, if at all.
Bravo

Yes, but I don't think I'll be coming back.
YuJa looked beautiful! Please always keep the dress length like this❤😊
Why do people feel the need to tell a grown women how to dress?
This is really stupid. Nothing mysterious about this.
tysmhb ❤👏❤
