If wave energy machines actually worked why are they not used to power the lights on navigation buoys? Instead we use batteries that have to be replaced. I suggest the whole thing is a way to extract research money from gullible providers.

That's absolutely mind-blowing. I can't help but love the ingenuity of using a natural phenomenon to clean, cycle and pump the water through the system to both prevent clogging and hypersalinity. An output of 6 litres per hour for an average of 12 hours of sunlight in Kiribati means a potential 72 litres per day. That's an absolute game-changer.

Also in Denmark we have tried to make systems for wave energy. None has made it past Project state! We depend on the still larger windmills now built in the North Sea and intended to make huge islands far out, with farms of mills producing absurd amounts of electricity!

Too many moving parts that have to change position very fast. I don't see an aerial future for it. It's a wasteful design being as at any time two blades are doing the work while the other two are not and causing rotational drag and weight.

Working on something similar for the same reasons, cargo, emergency searches, general travel. More of an ornithopter though, with heavy biomimicking birds (feathers, articulated flight). Starting with a cargo drone then moving onto a wearable PAV. My favorite feature of it is it essentially becomes a glider when the correct altitude is reached, vs the helicopter type drones that drop like a rock when they shut off

Finally an alternative energy solution that doesn't destroy the environment, and ocean animals as ocean wind turbines do. Also does not despoil the aesthetics. Possibly providing good energy most of the time, not like only 30% ave for wind and solar. Let's hope this is a good solution. if they can get the issues of longevity of the system and big maintenance requirements addressed. There have certainly been many many wave energy systems failures.

Tidal systems offer predictable and dependable power with far better power density without the massive areas of sea needed plus, of course the power lines to connect them. This could and should have been pushed but being hidden from view means that politicians can’t provide a visual of their supposed efforts. Nuclear should have been the route forward being tired, tested, clean and dependable.

At around the 9 minute mark you confuse a shallow angle with a steep one. Two additional things playing a major role for the efficiency: the refractive index inside an insect is certainly much lower than in a semiconductor, making extraction easier. Also, the spectrum of the light is very important. If you want peak lumen per watt, you need green light, as that's where our eyes are most sensitive. I doubt that many people would use that to light their homes, though.

This system looks very intriguing. But I am puzzled by the anchor. The anchor is a LONG, rigid cylinder (8:00, 10:29), with a large 'bulb' at its bottom. For this to be vibro-hammered into the seabed, implies the seabed consists of deep layers of loose soil (not what I expected). The anchor (7:58, 10:36) is vibro-hammered into the seafloor. The piston assembly (8:42 - 8:44) is mounted to the anchor via. a flexible coupling (4:27). The underwater assembly is very briefly shown at (8:45). I am puzzled by the sea floor and bending moments on the piston. NOTE: Minor error at 4:07- "Work with air instead of a fluid" is wrong. Air is also a fluid. It should say 'work with a compressible fluid (air) instead of an incompressible fluid (liquid)

There is only so much evaporation-transpiration that the atmosphere can handle. Water-vapor is a greenhouse gas. What would the water be used for, growing more turf and grain? I'm pretty sure that we need to just let the aquifer recharge via precipitation and water-conservation and accept a less shady look in the greater metro area. Agriculture contributes to the greenhouse effect, but, they say that it mitigates climate-change? It is just a favorable temperature change, we aren't even talking heat - remember high school biology and chemistry.
