Entzückende Petra, heute, am 2. September 2024, als ich dieser wunderschönen Chaconne in Ihrem erstaunlichen Auftritt zuhörte, hörte ich drei Explosionen, ziemlich stark, und sie passten genau in den Rhythmus der Musik, obwohl es schrecklich ist und möglicherweise Menschen gestorben sind und gelitten. Ja, es gibt einen Krieg, der Beschuss in der Ukraine hört nicht auf und der Krieg betrifft alle europäischen Länder und jeden. Wenn Sie nicht in Amerika sind. Deine Musik erfüllt mich mit Hoffnung und Glauben an das Beste. Schließlich leben, atmen und klingen die Klassiker nur dank so wunderbarer Interpreten wie Ihnen! Und ich bitte Sie, weiterzumachen, das ist Ihr Beitrag zum Sieg des Guten über das Böse, es ist Ihr Talent, das die Seelen aller auf Barmherzigkeit und Liebe einstimmt. Petra plays the Ciaccona as skillfully and beautifully as we know it from her. As this was a life recording, there appears to have been some restrictions regarding microphone positioning. The recording engineer didn't know her/his job, resulting in ambience sound pickup only, muffling the whole thing and even having picked up, what appears to be the sound of rain on the roof of the venue. Even with microphone positioning restrictions, choice / availability of the right microphones (...yes, I know, VERY expensive) and correct positioning of them adhering to the restrictions (i.e. out of sight of cameras) would have resulted in a much clearer and more transparent recording of Petra's rendition. Pity, Petra really deserves better sound engineering.

So far, I have two favourite guitarrists when I want to listen to this beautiful Sonata, Antonio López Palacios, an excellent musician, and Petra Poláčková. What a beautiful technique!

This is as far as the guitar can get, when it comes to Romantic. The most amazing thing about Petra Poláčková (and she has oh so many) is definitely her phrasing. Here and there (and mostly in the celebrated Ständchen) she literally grabs the music from the hands of Franz Liszt, to give it back to Schubert and make it sound like a song again. And hey, Mertz did a decent work, too :)

To my ear this is the perfect guitar tone, robust and with the full body that playing with nails often does not produce.
