It's such a strange phenomenon. You'd think that two movies which scored over 2 billion each despite coming 13 years apart, would be one of the major staples of current pop culture. Instead they've come, raked the money and disappeared every time, only to be popular again when the next movie comes out. The brief "Na'vikin" phenomenon didn't even repeat with the second movie, to my knowledge. As observed in some comments, however, it's likely their success is rooted in a more "regular" audience than in more dedicated fandoms.

Say what you will about "Avatar", but the characters were never written as smart enough for it to be jarring if they act stupid.

i've met several blue avatar fans within the furry subculture. i think it's mostly cause people think they're cringe and they come hide out with us furries and the other fandoms that get bullied and made fun of. and judging by some of the comments on this video i don't blame them for hiding.

i was too young to ever really interact with bionicle more than once or twice, only 5 when it was discontinued, but a little later on i was a big fan of lego star wars & the first season of ninjago, so my parents got me a lego club subscription. i fell in love with the hero factory comics in the magazine & the browser game, but i never got to actually play with or own any of the toys & it drove me nuts

To add context via faded memory to the "Battle" element of the first generation, I remember being given the instruction to knock my sibling's builds off to win. I feel like it may have been on a commercial or somewhere online for what online we had in 2002-2004 (this memory would be from 04/05). There must have been some kind of marketing or publicised conversation about the brand where a bunch of us heard it and grew up thinking it was the actual intention of the toys, or maybe there is plain out lost media? Later generations and the vertical loading launchers for the plastic balls were the best kind to use for mask-off contests.

To summarize, People initially thought the gum would actually make you feel things like an acid trip. Then everyone realized it's just gum, but it did last a long time and the packaging was nice so it was cool. Then they changed marketing tactics and made you completely forget about the gum altogether. Did Wrigley's learn nothing from the Quiznos commercials!? 😂😂😂

If corporations want customer-hostile environments, instead of removing everything fun for kids they should just let food service and retail employees settle disputes with customers with fisticuffs. That would actually be productive- it would weed out the shittier customers, encouraging a higher standard of clientele, and would double as marketing because you'd better believe that if my choices of where to eat all exploit underpaid overworked teenagers, you'd better believe I'm gonna pick the place that at least lets those workers kick the shit out of Karen.

I think this is a definitely a case of investors always demanding an increase on profits year on year instead of being happy with an already successful product which requires the advertisers and product makers to keep trying new things to grow their market share which eventually shittifies the product and the consumers move onto something else. It happens with everything, from games to movies to software. If it aint broke, dont fix it
