"Fight of the Century" was the promotional nickname given to this first match between champion Joe Frazier (26-0, 23 KOs) and challenger Muhammad Ali (31-0, 26 KOs), held on March 8, 1971 at New York's Madison Square Garden.
The term "Fight of the Century" had been used three times before. [1]
Both Ali and Frazier are in the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

According to referee Arthur Mercante, the following conversation took place in the ring:
"You know, you're in here with the God tonight" - Ali's attempt to psyche out Frazier
"If you are God, you're in the wrong place tonight" - Frazier's reply
Each man was guaranteed $2.5 million dollars, the largest single payday for any entertainer or athlete at the time. Tickets to the Garden would be made available to the general public by mail on a first come first served basis. Prices in the arena ranged from $20 for a balcony seat to $150 for ringside. Hundreds of other locations throughout the U.S. and Canada would screen the fight via closed circuit television to fans paying $5 to $15.

Lil Red always came to fight, would get off the deck and then go to work on his opponent. Kudos Lil Red, Sanchez was on another level!
McGuigan fought so cleverly that night. He was always just inside Pedroza´s reach, which made it hard for him and caused him to rock back in order to try and punch effectively. As he was also smaller than Pedroza he could also frequently come up at him with hooks unseen. Perhaps to non-boxers it all looked random, but McGuigan´s defence was also (mostly) superb, watch him move in the 15th like he was just still at the start of the fight. That´s how alert he stayed for 15 rounds to avoid the traps that Pedroza constantly tried to set.

Tommy hit George really hard, and George acted like it was nothing. How many boxers can you look at and say what if they had stayed away from the party life? No telling how many could have been great instead of good. George was just a beast.
Leo are was given preferential treatment by the judges and got decisions he truthfully did not earn. Knocked down twice and outboxed at the end of the jab for long stretches, lost pretty clearly, yet one of the judges scored the fight for Leonard. Corruption. Happened before with Leonard being given a highly generous decision in a fight with maven hagler with hagler, already the heavier puncher in an exchange, also proved the busier of the two that day. Las Vegas corruption at its finest really cooked the books on Leo and resume.
