My Thoughts on Star Wars: X-Wing vs Tie Fighter (RETRO REVIEW)
zhlédnutí 267Před 3 lety
X-Wing vs Tie Fighter was the third instalment of the critically acclaimed X-Wing series. How does it compare with the rest? Is it worth playing today, especially after the release of Star Wars: Squadrons? Let's find out! It's good to be back! It's been a while since I uploaded my last review. Lots of things happened in the meantime, but I'm glad I was finally able to sit down and do this, espe...
My Thoughts on UFO: Aftermath (Retro Review)

My Thoughts on Wing Commander: Privateer (Retro Review)
zhlédnutí 2,6KPřed 4 lety
Wing Commander: Privateer is the precursor of many open-world space simulators, and was widely praised when it released in the now-distant 1993. Today, it is still considered an influential title, but given how this genre has almost disappeared, how does it play in 2020? Is a play-through worth while waiting for Star Citizen? Let's find out!
The Current State of Magic Arena
zhlédnutí 12Před 4 lety
Magic Arena is the latest digital iteration of the immortal trading cards game. While this version is enjoyable in terms of UI and user friendliness, some dubious decisions by the developers are hurting not just the meta, but the future of the franchise... Apologies for the intermittent audio issues. I'm currently lacking the time to properly focus on this as I'm split among work, side projects...
My Thoughts on Dangerous Driving (Review)

Dangerous Driving is a new arcade racer from the developers of the Burnout series. Does it match expectations? Let's find out! NOTE: The video was edited quite in a hurry, as I was very busy with work these weeks. As such, due to some hasty VO editing (particularly a breath control module), there are a couple of words that seem missing. I will pay more attention next time!

My Thoughts on the Epic Games Store and Metro Exodus

Epic Games and Metro Exodus' publisher Deep Silver caused great controversy among gamers with their decision to digitally publish the game on PC exclusively on the new Epic Games Store (for 1 year). Here are my thoughts on this decision. The game in the background is Rock Band 4. The music in the background is a remix I made of one of my own composition that I called: "A Stretched Patreon". The trick with asteroid fields is that you need to reduce your speed, especially with the centurion. You shouldn't be going faster than 300-350.

    Privateer is the best game ever. I think the lack of tooltips and a tutorial is good - I played this without a manual and I figured it all out on my own - I knew almost nothing about the game, never played Wing Commander 1 or 2 - and it was all new to me - and I loved every second of this game and best of all - I didn't eve know it had a story - I just randomly went to a place on the star map - and then bam - I just stumbled upon the game story - I think this is the best way to start the main quest - not expecting it, just randomly being there - I played a lot of time, not knowing there was a story, and suddenly - there was a guy in the bar and he had this artifact - it was awesome, it's even better that you are not told what to do next - you meat two new character and you seem to be progressing the story, but suddenly one betrays you and he is gone - and now what ? Again you have to think and travel on your own - by that time, I knew I need to find a new place on the map and analyzed it and found where I needed to go on my own - I was so proud of myself with figuring this out - and I think this is the best way - no hand holding, no arrow pointing to go there - just read your map on your own and figure it out. Now, I never finished Privateer - back in the day - I didn't know where to go after getting the artifact and I thought you had to fight the alien pod on your own - and boy, did I try, but I only managed to slighly weaken it's shields... and I gave up. Years later I returned armed with knowledge and knew I had to go to a station that I visited earlier and was not allowed to enter to meet with the fleet admiral - but I made a huge blunder - I overrote my main save at a moment when I had no weapons and upgrades on my ship - I sold them because I didn't know where the alien weapon would be installed - it's a long story, but then you are not allowed to dock to a station again or you fail the quest - so I was unprepared for the final fight and again I couldn't beat the game. Still, I don't regret it. It's funny, Privateer and Resident Evil: Code Veronice are two games that I overrote my save just before the boss fight and had to fight the boss with no ammo - and couldn't win - it was impossible to go back I basically had to start all over again....

    I loved this game playing it when first released as a more modern xcom. The graphics for their time were decent and you got a variety of different enemies to fight even if some them were just cannon fodder. I liked the use of real world weapons with some invented ones. The game maps inside UFOs were atrocious and the voice acting abysmal. Other areas it let itself down were the ability to train soldiers in everything and not have a level cap as by the end you had a team of super soldiers

    • @luminous6969
      @luminous6969 Před rokem

      Yeah fighters are pretty OP in large numbers and the computer never adapts and tries to counter it so it's pretty much GG at that point. The game immediately becomes quite boring once you're all set up and have the tedious task of slowly steamrolling all of their planets. The process takes longer the more stars you set the game to have, so after the first time doing it with it with a 100 star game I was like okay this is ridiculous I'mma have to cap it at 50 haha.

    This game is extremely near and dear to my heart. My dad would play this game while I watched for hours. I would then play it when I was able to as a little kid and it was amazing. And scary! WHen the AI would have a giant ass battalion and you just see their ships speeding into your zone and coming right at your planet your like what the hell!! and you scramble to move your ship to the planet they are attacking. It was so exciting. I actually really like the ship design for the most part, I had a certain fear asociated with each design and always wanted to look like the scariest one in space. The research was so interesting, I havent seen anything like it since. Hoenstly, many many things in this game just dont exist in many modern games - save for sword of the stars which doesnt compare since its turn based. I prefer the frantic 4x gameplay with so much to do at all times. I think I am blinded by my nostalgia so I forgive just about all the points you mention lol. Specifically, I really LOVED the graphics. The pre rendered spins of tons and tons of objects I think is higher quality than many things even today. This game will always be dear to my heart. Unfortunately the GOG version crashes very often when I get into combat :( So I just have the memories close to me and I cant wait to share them with my own kid.

    • @rhysticgaming5896
      @rhysticgaming5896 Před 4 lety

      I appreciate your comment! I do believe nostalgia plays a massive role, but when I tried to look at this game in a more objective way I realised that it does have a large amount of flaws. Of course I still respect your point of view, and I still think the game is decent, but most of the aspects you mentioned (ship design, research, etc.) have often been done better in other games.

    I remember Pax Imperia. I was impressed by the intro sequence, the music and the possibilities in ship construction. I was really disappointed with the diplomatic and intelligence possibilities. Later in other games (Total War f.i.) I detected, that I don't like real-time strategy game because of its hectic and stress. But "Pax Imperia" and "Imperium Galactica" stayed in my memory.

  • @rhysticgaming5896
    @rhysticgaming5896 Před 5 lety

    CLARIFICATION: At 1:51, I say "[the planets' backgrounds] never change based on your actions." This is not entirely correct. What I meant was that they do change based on the buildings you construct, but regardless of your species' characteristics, they will always look the same (eg. if you are controlling a subterranean species you're not supposed to see buildings on the surface, etc.).
