Excluding the Lake of Rage Gyarados and the entirety of GO because shinies are drunk fish in a barrel there, I've had just *one* legit shiny in all my years, and it was right at the beginning: a Tentacool I found on my way back to Olivine after beating the Cianwood gym. At that point I didn't even lnow other Pokémon could be a different color, and I was dead convinced that having my red Gyarados at the front of my party was what made it possible, so I spent some time keeping him in the first spot after that, hoping in vain that I'd find more 😂 I tried soft-resetting for a shiny Groudon in Ruby but gave up after about an hour and a half with no luck 😅

As good as Unova is, I can attest as a New Yorker that I seriously doubt anyone on the development team has ever been there. New York is incredibly small and dense, as well as it mainly being flat. They really should have done the entire Northeast. Although I will say that some of the routes and the Nature Preserve do feel accurate to places in Upstate New York.

Here's another shiny fun fact, but Raichu had a palette swap done between Gens 2 and 3. If you look at old Raichu in the anime and in Gen 2, it was a very dark orange color, now it's more of a lighter, almost gold color, which was what the shiny coloration was in Gen 2. In Gen 3, the gold became the normal Raichu and the shiny became the og orange color of Raichu, so if you're a fan of the anime, hunting a shiny Raichu is like having an og Gen 1-2 Raichu.

in my about 7 years of pokemon i have only got 1 shiny, that being a shiny dudunsparce a caught in a raid battle in scarlet/violet

The last one makes me think that mythical pokemon can be shiny by being from a different time line, where in that universe that pokemon is shiny, just like how it explains how in some time lines there are mega evolutions and other time lines dont have mega evolutions, every game file being a different time line, by this way having infinite time lines, where a player can reset theyre game until you get the shiny. New reset, new time line.

shiny zapdos is kind of criminal. the jump to 3D absolutely ravaged a nice chunk of shinies - zapdos being one. the gens 3 and 5 sprites are beautiful.

For GF to shiny lock certain pokemon in order to deter people from stopping their adventure at a beginning or midway point of the game, they would not only have to know people would be autistic enough to reset over and over on a first playthrough, but they would be autistic enough to datamine the games in order to determine whether the hunt was possible to begin with. I know a lot of us autistics sure do love us some pokemon, but I doubt that was the reason for shiny locking.

I think a lot of cut content could've been included if Red/Blue didn't have so many empty areas. I recently replayed Red, and I noticed this. If they tightened up, like how they did in Pallet Town and, Lavender Town, it probably would've added some more space.

As a kid I encountered a shiny Koffing totally at random and even though I caught it I didn't use it cus I didn't like Koffing or Weezing as a Pokémon on my team, in Pokémon Moon I shiny hunted only the Pokémon I wanted on my team and I was lucky to "ONLY" spend one day resetting to get a shiny starter.

Generation 1 (after being sent to gen 2 to know its shiny) and 2 shiny pokemon were actually only shiny if they had poor IV's so they were actually weaker in those gens but from gen 3 onwards this was not the case and was instead related to other hidden ID the PID matching up to your TID and SID, this was also changed later on.

Stadium 2's Shiny Kangaskhan is a dark indigo blue... like a dark denim kind of color. It's really dramatic! I wish that stuck around.
