I think this board is beautiful, but who told these people that charging $350 is ideal for a keyboard. I would love to have this keyboard and it would solve my keyboard hunting issues, but for that price I can’t and it makes me really sad

Who okayed that number font? It's awful and completely divorced from the rest of the keys. Also the price with such little attention to detail is madness.

$350??? And so many questionable design choices, like the awful AWFUL printing on the keycaps, the choc switches or Why would you make a "low profile" keyboard if you're going to stick a skyscraper of a knob to it that can't be removed from the board??? Why make it low profile??

So basically a good keyboard for $149

0:29 the design is wrong, the spacebar should go from C to M, just 5u length. if this were my design, the spacebar should be split, and be only 1.5u the rest of the space used for layer keys. anyway, with the 6u bar it's totally wrong.

if i could also flick the knop up and down this would be epic for on the go broadcast control.

There is a certain niche for products that look very cool, are pleasent to play with, but they are uncomfortable to use or borderline unfunctional.

Fantastic review. Unfortunately the execution seems to hold back the great ideas of the Altar 1. It seems like you're paying a hundred or so extra to beta test; early adopter's tax to put it another way. This makes them a company to keep an eye on but the product is better as an idea than an actual object as yet.

That knob... it's so obnoxious. Like, why use low-profile switches and caps just to essentially double the height of the thing with that lever of a knob to snap off when slid into a bag?

I laughed so loud when you just absolutely nailed the delivery on the facial hair / chest hair of 40 percenters. The generally serious talking points with the relaxed cadence and tone combined with just hitting me with that self deprecating joke out of nowhere had me unable to hear the next bits of content for a solid 15 seconds of laughter. Bravo, and great channel!!!

I kinda hate the rotary knob

It costs 350 DOLLARS which is so overpriced that it is ridiculous. This keyboard doesn't even have a nupad block but no system keys like insert, delete, etc. The lack of separation between keys and arrows makes it practically impossible to use it completely blind. For such a price you can make not just a beautiful and nice mechanical keyboard, but even a transformer keyboard like a medical box with a sliding lid that opens into a full-size one with a numpad unit.

Man if the legion had steam OS i would love to have one for myself but steam deck is enough for me for now

Got an Altar 1. Not happy with it. Fails to pair with my Thinkpad Fedora laptop. The pairing button is absolutely infuriating. I keep bumping it constantly. They haven't released the firmware (like they promised) so I can't switch the modifier keys. The rotary encoder looks cool but is annoying to use in practice. A lower profile, ribbed knob would be so, SO much better. I also hate that the left modifier keys are not evenly sized (because they chose that spot to put a screw through the pcb). It means that I can't swap the modifier keys freely. Until they release the firmware/a fix for the pairing button and Linux pairing issues, all I have is a paperweight. An incredibly beautiful paperweight, yes, but nothing more than a paperweight.

Almost half a grand for a keyboard that is missing the number block? Fuck no...

I think the problems we see here is the challenge, that new companies that wants to do hardware face, is that if you don't already have a foot in the market. Manufactures will charge you more than they do for well-established companies like Logitech, Razer, Apple, etc. It feels like they had a vision but couldn't achieve it to its fullest. This also reflects on the price compared to the material and the lack of quality assurance on some aspects-as well as the keycaps which just _seem_ cheap. It makes it obvious on where they spent their money; and I think they chose wisely, considering their situation. But this is just a hunch based on my own experience, working at a company who also deliver their own hardware. We haven't been able to upgrade the design without a huge payout. And the one's it's going to hurt the most, is the end-consumer that will feel they didn't get what they paid for.

No big Enter key that spans two rows is a big minus...

this thing looks painful to type on, those config are acceptable on laptop because of the form factor but they're ergonomic nightmares.

OK, they get many, many points for actually supporting an ISO layout from day one - however, they managed to fk that up by not _actually_ having the keys in the proper places (@, \, " etc). Kind of feels like they did half a job there, just like using transfers on the keycaps instead of using a proper double-shot process. And what the hell is up with that daft oversized escape key, and the Fn key where Ctrl should be? And what about the parity in US versus UK pricing? The damn thing's made in the UK, there's absolutely no excuse for that. It's a cool idea, and they were perilously close to getting it 100% right, but then it was Friday afternoon and they all went home. At these prices, it's a flat "nope" when even Keychron manage to get all these things right (sometimes).
