Great! Surely will do this on my X100VI. Did you also try Average and if so, what is your advice?
Thanks. No, I didn't actually, I was having too much fun on additive! Reminded me of the good old days of film 😊
yes but I dont know how to properly do this yet
Practice makes perfect Colin 😊
@@theschoolofphotography thats true
I did exactly what you described in 2014 except I also looked up the Nikon flagship image quality camera D810
Why didnt u just use the same lens on both cameras??
The clue is in the title!
So helpful! Thank you!
R6 1 or R8? for photo?
At last a video that sets things out perfectly. Thank you.
You're welcome! 😊
hii :D I bought a JCC lens hood for my RF 50mm and RF 35mm but those are the ones with the edges cut out , would this be a problem ? thanks for the video
Why compare daytime vs auto white balance? Aren’t we comparing the filter vs no filter? Should the settings be identical? Apologies for my ignorance.
All explained in the video and in more detail here www.theschoolofphotography.com/courses/photographing-cities-at-night
Regarding the image at 22:20, one thing in favor of the 70mm shot is that you get more of the background in with the same framing and you have those leading lines of the fence which add some visual interest.
22:20 I also like the look at 105mm. One thing to keep in mind though is the working distance from subject. On the 70mm, I'm guessing it's around 3.5 meters. And at 105mm you'd have to be around 5.5m. So from a good deal away to quite far away. For a shot like that, I'd rather use a 50mm, get closer, and shoot at f/1.4 or f/2 to really blur the background (if that's what I was looking for) or maybe the 85mm at 4m away at f/1.4 will really give you that magical blur.
Great video, great comparison.
I don't have a dslr. Is there any way of getting this effect through a mobile app
This was total waste of time watching this dumb video
So helpful!! Thank you!
Would you recommend R50 for beginners? Or M50?
Both are good 👍
Well of course you really want to have the 24-105 F/2/8. It is a lot more expensive of course. For pure portrait photography, you probably want to have something like the 35-150 F/2-2.8 Tamron lens, but that will likely never make it to the RF
I chose the R24-105. The focal length overlaps my EF 17-35 at one end and my Diffractive Optics EF 70-300 at the other. Very pleased with it. I don’t think I’ll use the extra stop often enough of the 24-70. Matt, Whitstable, UK.
Should anyone use lens hood land ND filter together?
A comparison to tiff would also be useful
Great overview
See these all the time, but never knew the name! Crazy what you see used, but don't know the name of at all.
all those numbers though. Can you tell us what do the 50s and 2000s etc mean, when you're deciding which budget model to buy.
I should also say, of course, thank you very much. You are giving me hope!
Your videos are simply the best of the bunch Marc. Outstanding combination of voice, visual and didactic training. From your professional experience, could you tell me what makes an outstanding photographer? It seems to me that you need a combination of science and art. However the challenge here is that science could be 100 % acquired however art is not and a bigger part of it is inherent. Am I right? If affirmative in your opinion what is the percentage. Thank you. Dr. Ahmed M. Fathie Ph.D
Glad you like them! I think you are right. It's a mixture of both.
always valuable content, even today
Thanks 😊
I own 2470F2.8, 24105F4 and 2870F2. I do think that F4 version is underrated. it is small, lightweight and a good focal length of compression at 85 and 105. It is much flattering. and good to carry and use. remember, the best camera and lens are the one that is always with you.
I have the R8 It’s a quirky little beast
yes, 24-105 is better
Now it's even more difficult to make a choice. There is also the very expensive RF 24-105 f2.8! For an amateur like me the RF 24-105 f4 is the right choice as an allround lens! Combined with the RF 100-500 it would give a reach from 24-500mm with only two lenses! (Ok. I decided to go for the cheaper RF 100-400 lens.) And those two (24-105 and the 100-500) share the same 77mm filter! Even the wide angle zoom RF 14-35 f4 would fit in this 77mm filter lenses! Well done, Canon! Yes, there are primes like the 50mm f1.8, the 16mm f2.8 and the 35mm f1.8 Macro but those are non L lenses and much cheaper. Well, the next two lenses on my wish list will be the RF 100mm f2 Macro and the RF 200-800mm.
Yes, but that RF 24-105 f2.8 is a beast to carry!! 😧
There seems to be confusion for viewers (not me) when you try to explain a smart object but did not tell the actual difference as the smart object is not a pixel based layer as in the case of a raster layer...?
I am thinking about getting the a7iv. Over the a6700. As I want the camera for years to come. Both seem good but I think with the 33mp over the 26 and full frame for more detail zoomed in would be better for me. 😊
That was FABULOUS!
🙏
Hi.. nice comparison. Before we could understand the difference in photos you change and your face comes in. Show more of photos and background we hear your voice. I had to go back and forth.
Thank you 😊
thank you!
could you add chapters so we can quickly check out the camera we're researching?
Would love to see a comparison on benefits of the extra stop for landscape photography. I have the 24-105 4-7.1 and it did well for travel photography.
Excellent video In 2024, you will realise that the R100 was a serious mistake because it doesn’t have a touchscreen to focus. Just avoid it.
Very good test as far as showing the pros and cons of those zoom ranges are concerned 👍🏻 Excellent job
