The most important principle in corporate diplomacy is the Golden Rule: he who has the gold, rules.

Corporate promotions beyond the contributor/manager level are just about who can absorb credit while diffusing risk to others. This trait evolved from how nobody can be allowed into the upper echelon if they can be tied to any mistake. But you can't create growth without taking risk. So it's all about letting other people take that risk for you while absorbing (through politics / optics) credit for any upside that results from their effort. Rinse and repeat then dump those contributors when they figure it out. If that's the kind of scum you are, and you fit their politics, you will make it in.

I work in a branch with mostly 50+ year old colleagues. However, I have very young look. Since I was young. I have tons of experience, great communication, and have lead many teams at our company. I keep hearing side comments and because I look young, get confused as our employees under management. Is there anything I can do? My communication style is the same as others, yet I hear jokes "How could you possibly know that from years ago, did you start working here when you were 12?" Ive documented. I dont know what I can do to be seen as more senior when going for higher paying roles.

Thank you! I genuinely believe that since I have made an effort to be present and ask questions and try to understand, I find it easier and I'm able to be trusted by others. Chlorine the space putting down my phone not being in front of a screen talking with people directly with no distractions giving them 100% of my attention has been amazing for me.

Base on the corporate game theory, the best approach would be to avoid assisting others if it does not benefit you. Everything should be taken as a transaction. Search up the term “quiet quitting”. Do the bare minimum and go home. Look for opportunities in other companies and apply for higher positions available regularly and do not be loyal to your current company if it does not benefit you.
