It seems like MOBIL 1 is the best OVERALL for protection and hot and cold flow... when compared to the other top ones. It's not as restrictive..

Kind of what logic would dictate......... A filter with better flow will allow more particles to pass. Only way to combat that is to use more restrictive media, BUT to add lots more media to make up for the flow rate.

The true measure of a filters worthiness is NOT what it looks like inside, rather how well it actually catches contaminants. I have had four vehicles go 150,000 miles on Fram filters and use very little oil. They were all operational when I either traded them in or parked one due to extreme rust. It is a full size van so It is good for storage. I started buying the Fram years ago because they have that gritty surface that is easy tl get a grip on. My most recent one is a 2005 Liberty diesel which now has 290,000 miles. With me, function wins over looks every time.

What it boils down to is.......Mobile 1 is the best in OIL and filters.....That's what I always put in my Porsche. YOUR car is just as important! Buy good stuff!......cheap stuff is , well, CHEAP stuff! It all depends on your priorities!.... You can always get AAA with free towing, to the shop. There is where you really get screwed for your "cheap" purchase.

11 GPM? That sounds like an unreasonable amount of oil flow. How about testing these at what one would expect as a normal amount of oil flow? Does it really hurt if the filter bypasses some of the oil for the first few minutes? It isn't like there's a copious amount of dirt in the oil needing to be filtered at startup.

OEM parts have guaranteed compatibility with your vehicle. Aftermarket parts do not (no matter how good the marketing can be).

Some of this will depend upon how often that you change your oil. If you change your oil super often like I do after 3,000 miles the Supertech filter will do fine. If you go to 5,000 miles then do buy the Mobil 1 filter.

Ridiculous to worry about a brand of oil filter, you change it often, so you don't worry if it holds up to 10,000 miles. Because you need to change it at 5,000 miles or less if you want your engine to last and not sludge up. Any oil filter will hold up just fine for lower mileage oil changes. 😊😮😂

Misleading title. if you only pick 4 random oil filters, the best of those could still be terrible in the grand scheme of things. in order to have any value, you need to add all significant brands.

Not all filters will have a bypass valve. If it's designed for an engine that has a bypass valve built in, they won't have one.

I think your testing will be a kick in the A for the manufacturers to improve their products! I have 2K miles on my orange can of death (Fram Extra Guard) that I ignorantly bought because Autozone didn't carry the Purolator Pure One that I used to buy from Pep Boys. Another 1K miles and the Boss goes in.

$40-90k for a vehicle and your going to cheap out on one of the most critical parts of your engine to save 5-10 bucks every 6 months!!? Change the oil every 5000 miles and use HIGH quality oil and filters is very cheap insurance. Use your brain people...

Why not any Purolator filters? We should have had some Premium filters for comparison, for people who Like their engines... Do some in the air filter category for sure, I'd love to see how they stack up there

looking at the final graph, it seems that filters with the least efficiency in filtering (redundance sorry) have the best flow and capacity, and the same goes the other way, the filters with the better media have decreased flow and capacity...

I swapped to a Purolator Boss oil filter after watching your previous videos, and I am still using them. Thank you for sharing all of this information. On the oil side, I had been using Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, but recently swapped to Valvoline Restore and Protect.

GUESS why F1, IMSA GTP racers and large marine diesels preheat their engines, oil and radiator fluid before engine start?

Laugh at people revving engine at cold start. Massive by-pass no filter engine wear, unless they are using Mann/Hyundai/Ford 100 psi by-pass valve. Even then; NOT RECOMMENDED TO REV AT COLD START!

1) Flow rate above bypass valve actuation test "Nothing Filter", many filter bypass do not reseat, until filter is changed-out, 2) Filter load test, non-relevant if particulate filtered is not smaller than, 0.0008"-0.0012" rod bearing clearance or 20 microns. 3) Rev Engine at cold temp, defeat most filters bypass, except MANN/Hyundai/Ford 100 psi bypass valve.

Love this series guys…I know you tested an AC Delco filter but it was without an anti-drainback valve. Can you test something like the PF63 which is a very common filter application across GM as it has a synthetic media and has an anti-drainback valve

With the Baldwin having such a high particle count, Wouldn't you think that it is doing a better job of filtering out the particles. The other three are allowing the particles to pass on through. I don't get it.

People be putting a restrictive oil filters and are suprised they get knock at a dry start just put a cheap one and change your oil

The thumbnail got me.... I just bought 4 Fram Ultra Synthetic for my cars. Fram ultra synthetic + Kirland Full Synthetic will be pushing my cars to 20k kms = 12.5 miles. (75-90% highway driving)

id love to see MicroGard Select oil filter be tested thats what i run on my performance engines.

Would be interesting to see the bigger Amsoil EAO filter (same media, but bigger and claims 25k mile) tested against the smaller EA15K filter (15k mile)- my assumption is that the larger filter would be able to to reduce the pressure drop across the filter at the same oil flow volume which improves filtration efficiency and reduces bypass events. It could also extend filter life through increased loading capacity, allowing it to filter longer before becoming clogged. There's also the slight increase in oil capacity and increased can surface area to aid in cooling.

The Purolator Boss and WIX XP are the same filter media on the inside. Surprised they ranked that far apart.
