My rig is a tripod, lol! Seriously, I need to build my C70 out so I can hold it steadier for handheld. Love your recommendations here.
I believe that the purple flare you are talking about is the speed booster on the C70. It’s a known issue on that adapter.
I’ve heard that but I’ve also seen a very similar flare on the 35mm on my R6ii as well so I’m not sure 🤷🏼♂️
I have 1, Sigma Art 14-24f2.8, 40mm f1.4, 50-100mm f1.8 2, Nikkor AIS 24,35,50,55,85,135 for my C70.

What are you running for lavs into the c70?!
@@gonefishinzach7811 if I’m running a lav, I’ll just use the DJI Mic 2’s into the mic input on the C70. If I’m running a shotgun or something else I go into the mini XLR
@@BrockRoberts So I just got a c70 and am trying to figure out how to use the rode wireless pro into the mic input. If you're using the two lavs they come with, does the c70 separate the two channels, and can you control the gain from the knob on the c70? Thanks!
@@gonefishinzach7811 the C70 will view it as a stereo single. So one mic will be in ch1 and the other will be ch2. Then you’ll need to set the ch 1 and 2 I put to the “mic” and then you can control gain from there back of the camera

Still with you on your filmmaking journey my guy! What you think of that new C400? I know you probably got a kick out of that one!
Yessss glad to hear! Appreciate you watching! I’m stoked for it. I think it’s great for the industry regardless if I end up with it or not. Time will tell…
Primes are great obviously. RF glass is stunning, but so is the price!.. so for now I just use my EF glass. So far with my C70 I like the Sigma 18-35 f1.8 - very versatile, fast and sharp. I also bought a used 24-105 f4 Mark 1 and it's a surprisingly good lens on the C70 and having the IS helps a bit. I also like my 200 f2.8 mark 2 and my 100 2.8 macro (rev 1) is great for interviews and close ups.
Love the 18-35 if I’m not rocking the speedbooster! EF glass is still killer!
@@BrockRoberts I agree -I'm not in a hurry to acquire a speedbooster just yet because I have concerns over the chromatic aberration concerns, but I know overall it's very good
@@Sutterjack yeah I use one all the time and don’t notice many issues tbh!
@@BrockRoberts Good to know - I like the extra stop of light, the extra barrier from dust on the sensor and the solid, 4-point screw into the body it provides. I may have to give it a chance - maybe I can rent one to try out
@@Sutterjack I definitely recommend trying it! I think you’ll love it!
Bought the LUT pack. They didn’t look as good as I thought they would. Colors were off.
Hmm. I’ve had no issues with them or heard of any other issues. I’m assuming you bought the Clog 2 pack and are shooting in Clog 2?
Nice video bro! I also use the C70 and the .71x adapter, but I only have the 18-35mm that I use with the normal EF adapter. Do you think the 35mm would still be worth the investment? Also, I plan on getting a B cam to pair nicely with the C70 and I'm thinking R6II. Do you think it is possible to have similar results or I need to aim higher? I'm still using an 80D as a B cam =/.
@@thiagovianna6539 the full frame look is is definitely nice with the speed booster! I would say it’s worth it to me. The R6ii is a great camera! You can match it pretty close with the c70 but it definitely takes some work to get it there

No idea who that is
Great video and its always great seeing people discover the old Helios lenses, a few things: - In the Batman, Helios 44 was used purely for the car chase scene and it was because they did not want to risk any of the $100,000 Arri Alfa lenses that they used for the rest of the film as the chase scenes were filmed very realistically which put the lenses at risk. The Helios 44 was used because it is scary close to the Alfas but 99.9% less money. ;) (Which says a lot about how damn good the Helios is) More recently though the mighty 44-2 showed up in some scenes in Dune 2 and not in action scenes as a stand-in for more expensive glass. It says a lot when a cinematographer with almost unlimited budget specifically chose to use a $150 Soviet lens rather than any other lens imaginable on likely the biggest film of the decade. - The 44-2 is great but I also highly recommend grabbing yourself a 44-4 to give yourself more options. The 44-4 has the same swirly bokeh effect as the 44-2 but it benefits from some slightly more modern coatings so is sharper and handles flare a bit better. Not to say it should replace the 44-2 but having both is a killer combo as it lets you choose "how much" of a soft vintage feel you want. - The Helios 40-2 85mm F/1.5 is another insanely good lens that Zenit actually started manufacturing again a few years ago. It comes natively on EF mount and is an incredible lens.(Though its a bit of a beast). It cuts beautifully with the Helios 44 and is one of the greatest 85s ever created imo. - If you are looking for a wider lens that cuts nicely with the Helios 44s, the Zeiss Flektogon 35mm f/2.4 is fantastic. The Helios 44 lenses were a copy of the Zeiss Biotar which shares very similar properties with the Flek as they were created in similar eras and both are designs that the Soviets took back to Russia when they emptied out the Zeiss factories after WWII - Another great lens I'd suggest is the Jupiter 9 85mm. It doesn't cut as well with Helios as it renders color very differently, but it is another lens like the Helios that will go down in history as just a sensational optic. - One of the biggest traps people fall into with the 44s is that they become obsessed with chasing swirls. Which can look cool, for sure but the swirls feel like a gimmick. The magic of the Helios 44s isn't the swirls. Lots of lenses produce swirls, and many such as the old Petzvals produce far more distinct swirls than Helios 44. But rather, the magic of the Helios is how it renders focus transitions coupled with how it transmits color and the way it flares. People who spend all their time chasing swirls often forget to actually use this lens for its greatest properties. (Not saying you have this issue at all, there is a ton of gorgeous footage in this video, just a general comment)
Just got mine and I love it already!

Thanks bro!!!
Dope. Im getting into video myself and about to start serving on my photo video team at my church. Definitely using your takes
Nice!
This was definitely a huge learning experience for me! Have you ever attempted something like this?
Kept saying it's a great price, but doesn't say the price 😂
$5999 lol
So Nikon just released Z6ii for $4499aud, and I can now get R6ii for around $3000.... guess I'm moving to Canon!! never thought I would, but I need a mirrorless that can actually focus in challenging and low light situations
Just use a Atmos Ninja V - You can get 10bit 2k via hdmi
Definitely an option.
is that 60 fps or just 24?
Would you consider the new Sigma 18-50 DC DN RF lens for the C70 when it is available in place of the Sigma (EF) 24-70? Covers the S35 sensor of the C70, way smaller and a native mount. Would love to hear what you think of that upcoming lens.
For sure! That would absolutely be a great option assuming it performs well!
Which lenses did you use for this video?
I used a handful: Canon 85mm EF 1.4, sigma 24-70, canon 50mm.
So I’ve tried being on the cutting edge and buying gear when it first came out and also tried being on the trailing edge….”still good enough for now”. I’m now a retired hobbiest, so my preference going forward is to buy in the newer side of the curve, not be limited and hopefully get a 10 year runway before “not being good enough”. 10 years is a long time in camera world, but the C100ii and 70D made that goal as did my XHA1 back in the day. It’s nice to be on the front edge, enjoy the new capabilities, and then have years to learn and optimize the gears use while its capabilities hold up to newer offerings. I’ve also “missed” on new tech as when I bought the 7D upon release. It was almost immediately obsoleted by the 70D’s excellent dual pixel autofocus, audio controls, and a number of other features.
So basically, if you can afford the cfast card...then the c200 is better. Right?
Not exactly….lol it depends on what you are saying it’s “better” than. The C70 can also shoot 12Bit raw so if that’s what you’re comparing it to then no. Now when it comes to value, that’s different convo
Skip CFAST and get a Atomos Ninja V external recorder and you're set. If you already have one this the C200 can be powerful.
Love the videos man! just curious with your C70 settings: I've been experimenting with mine for quite some time now in regards to lowlight performance, your night shots are looking cleaner than the inside of a scrub room hahahah. are you shooting in CLog2 for the lowlight shots by chance? and if not what/where are you letting your values sit on your FC readings? are you at Base ISO and exposing over? would be really interested in how you get such clean results. Thanks!
Thanks!! I shot in Clog 2 at 800 ISO. It’s just about getting lighting and levels right. I expose to the right to be sure my blacks were clean when I bring everything back down in post!
Love natural lighting. And that bokeh. Did you use any lens filters on the fifty?
Thanks!! No filters!
@@BrockRoberts Thank you. Looking forward to your next video.
Great, great content!! Thank you. Im looking into getting a C70 as I'd like to start getting into some solo filmmaking projects. So obviously I am about to spend a decent amount of money, so in your opinion, what would be the lens you would start out with from a filmmaking perspective. I realize a lot comes into play here, but just looking at a good first lens that can cover a lot of, or enough, ground. I do love anamorphic, but that probably is not the first lens I want...lol. Thanks again andIi definitely subscribed!!
Thanks for the kind words!! I’d personally go with a 24-70mm of some kind. Really is the best all around. Or even Canon’s new 24-105 1.8!
