Before Their Time | Tracy McGrady
Tracy McGrady was one of the most explosive scorers in NBA history. Cited as the most difficult player to guard by Kobe Bryant, McGrady, at his peak, performed on a level that few hoopers have ever approached. But, what if I told you he could’ve been even better if he played today?
This series argues that at least four players from NBA history would thrive in the modern era. In this episode, we take a look at Tracy McGrady. This is his story, and this is what could’ve been.

zhlédnutí 891Před 2 lety
Creative, confident, and a constant offensive-threat, Arvydas Sabonis was an all-time level talent. Despite entering the NBA at a seasoned 31 years of age, Sabonis led the Portland Trailblazers to the playoffs in every one of his seven seasons; and is enshrined in the Basketball Hall of Fame. But, what if I told you that his career could have been even more impactful if it occurred in today’s N...

Wilt "Goaltending machine" Chamberlain
Players: - Gary Payton - Scottie Pippen - Michael Jordan - Dikembe Mutombo - Dennis Rodman - Ben Wallace - Kareem Abdul Jabbar - Wilt Chamberlain - Hakeem Olajuwon - Bill Russell
We don't know Bill Russell's numbers and is he the best?
Where’s Lechina?
Bobby Jones was literally called “The secretary of defense “ He should be at the top of this list
Kg should be top 3
My top 10 : 10 Payton, 9 Jordan, 8 Duncan, 7 Wallace, 6 Pippen, 5 Wilt, 4 Mutombo, 3 Hakeem, 2 Rodman, 1 Russell
To rank Defenders simply on numbers and statistic is not fair. Mutombo is top 5, possibly even top 3. Despite the fact he never won DPOY, Pippen was an absolue Monster. And he was a better defender than Jordan because he could guard all positions. Rodman should be 1 or 2( only Russell Can be compared to him). Wallace was so impressive, but, not better than Rodman.
Hakeem, Jordan, and RodZilla top 3 Defensive players of All Time. Jordan's Defense is easily overlooked because he is the GOAT Scorer ever and that stands out more. But let's be honest, if he played the exact same Defense, but he sucked on offense like B.Wallace, D.Mutumbo, and D.Rodman, then Jordan would get way more credit for his Defense. But...
1. Bill Russell 2. Hakeem Olajuwon 3. Tony Allen 4. Dennis Rodman 5. Ben Wallace 6. Sidney Moncrief 7. Tim Duncan 8. Alvin Robertson 9. Dwight Howard 10. Michael Jordan Honorable mentions: Draymond, Kawhi, Nate McMillan, Paul George, Scottie Pippen, Gary Payton, Bobby Jones, David Robinson, and Kareem
John Stockton? Really not on the list. All time steal leader and can’t crack the top 10. Lost is suspect.
Amazing work, excited for the series!
Tracy is one of my favorite players, electrifying presence it’s a shame that his accolades don’t match his talent forever a great in my eyes.
Kwahi lionard ????
1. Hakeem 2. Rodman 3. Dikembe 4. Pippen 5. Payton
It was impossible to stop Chicago Bulls in 1996-1998. 3 top 10 defenders of all time on one team
Bill Russell and Hakeem Olajuwon are the only two players on this top 10 list that could guard from anywhere on the court so I'm not surprised they are the top 2. The fact that Duncan didn't make this top 10 list alltime is very absurd.
Pippen should be higher on this list for sure..
Bro Jordan pippin and Rodman was crazy I would name it too 3 best teams of all time
rodman in 6? tell me this is a joke?
No Bobby Jones ???. Guard multiple positions , great help rundown defender , 1 of only 4 players to average 2 stl and 2 blocks in a season ?..unbelievable
The Secretary of Defense. Snuffed out many. Dr. J, Bird, and many others.
If you don’t put Timmy D on a greatest defender of all time list, the list is fucked up
Bobby Jones 🤸
No bobby jones? He pinned Dr. J's on the backboard in the aba
I gotta go with Hakeem as the greatest defender. Only player in top 10 blocks and steals.
bill russell LMFAOOOOO Best defender isnt same as rim protector
No John Stockton? Even though his steals record will never be broken.
Can't believe Tim Duncan didn't make list smh
Hakeem Olajuwon had a lot of blocks where he intentionally hit the ball downward so his teammates could possibly get it as opposed to just swatting it out of bounds. He was no joke on defense!
as tall, athletic, and fast as wilt chamberlain is he can guard all positions pg - center
hakeem should be number 1
I guess goaltending wasn't a rule when Wilt was playing...
Where's kawaii?
Why is Gary Payton 10 and why is mike 8
Quite an abysmal list if you ask me MJ, Rodman, and Pippen are not top 10 or 20 imo.
Wow whoever made this video knows nothing… to not even include Duncan makes his entire video void not to mention Duncan is by far a top 2 defender all time and if you actually know the game his defense went way beyond stats b/c his presence and defensive iq dominated opposing offenses. Duncan is easily top 3 all time overall and again stats don’t provide the whole story on his absolute domination on both ends of the floor. There’s a reason his team never missed the playoffs and I believe he lead his team to 19 straight 50+ win seasons in a row which is incredible. And I’m not saying later in his career he was always the best on the team however he was always the leader and example that his team mates followed. Also he had to adapt his entire style of play through 3 different playing style transitions and was able to win a championship in all 3: Style 1 - late 90’s early 00’s was still the big man game it was a slower pace and more banging it out down low Style 2 - mid 00’s to roughly 12’ where pace quickened play on the block was fading and 3 pointers were starting to ramp up Style 3 - from 12’ to current the game has a blistering pace and even the bigs are shooting 3’s otherwise they aren’t as useful to a lot of and play on the block is an afterthought. He was able to adapt and stay dominant through all 3 transitions and even when he had to start guarding people near the 3 pt line and defend younger quicker stronger hybrid bigs he was still always the best defender on the floor.
Mark Eaton all I'm gonna say if you know you know
Why not ranked Chuck Hayes?
Fantastic video!! My favorite player of all time! I love seeing him get the respect he deserves. Thank you for the amazing video!
Thanks Stan! Be sure to tune in for the next episode
If only they could have gotten him when they drafted him. Could have been the difference. Portland was in the NBA a couple of times during that time. One of them against Jordan and the Bulls. I think Portland might have been the Bulls Nemesis If he had been with Portland during that time. MJ might have been short a couple of rings. Great video and cool concept. I loved watching him when he was here.
Notice how Bill Russell’s blocks are different than all of the other ones that appear on this list. When wilt, Kareem, Wallace, Hakeem, and Dikembe block they usually swat it hard out of bounds. But when russell blocks a shot he gently hits it to his teammates or comes down with it himself. That’s what makes him the best. He turns a block into a turnover instead of just giving the other team another go by hitting it out of bounds.
He had to show Scottie block that little kid in the celebrity game💀💀💀
How to meet Ben Wallace: Throw a basketball against the net. Ben Wallace will appear out of thin air, and block it to smithereens. You can then buy him a beer and tell him how great he is.
Not a bad list but Kareem was never regarded as an elite defender especially after his first 8 years or so. Sidney Moncrief should probably be also be ahead of Gary Payton, was one of only a few player to win Defensive Player of the year twice and In his prime his steals percentage was a bit higher as well. But other than that this is a very good list. It could be argued that Tim Duncan & Bobby Jones who was on a Ton of all Defensive teams and who would have been a multiple of winner of the award if it was around before we 1981 deserve a spot on the list. Honor mentions to Joe Dumars, Bruce Bowen, Alvin Robertson, Khawi, Tony Allen, Marcus Camby, Rudy Gobert.
Why is Shaq not on here?
Basketball Mozart
BEN WALLACE DEFENSE GOAT
Bro really put Gary Payton and not Tim Duncan
he played like a machine 😯
This shit is mindboggling ... Cuz Petro was great in defense, you can`t look at statistic, look at him playing - one will see
Bulls have 3 on there epic!
