What a great man Churchill was he got people working at winning the war !
Read Winston's book of the same name if you can. He was not the best paid journalist because he could not write.
So much better than the 2017 film Darkest Hour, where Churchill is depicted as a bumbling idiot and ‘diversity’ has insidiously been inserted
Totally miscast Richard Burton as Churchill 😂
Wonderful, miniseries. Note that the song “oh, Beautiful for spacious skies “was written by Irving Berlin. Berlin wrote fabulous songs, and he himself was a Russian immigrant. He was not gay. They chose the Star-Spangled Banner as our nation’s theme song because Berlin was a Jew. Never can get away from that old anti-Semitism. How very ignorant people are.
Glad I found this miniseries in CZcams. I always remember it and wanted to see it again
If Britian had opted for peace the world might be more free and orderly
FANTASTIC!! MANY THANKS.
World of Burton, Thanks for supplying this TV movie. Richard bringing his customary gravitas to the role of Churchill-interesting to see Robert Hardy who himself was acclaimed for his Winston here depicting Von Ribbentrop!
The irony of this role for Burton is that he criticized churchill heavily and because of that he never got a knighthood.
Thoroughly enjoyed this. Cried a lot, though, so, all round good evening
Cherie Lunghi is always authentic. one of the best roles I've seen for Lila Kaye, quiet and authoritative instead of overblown and bombastic.
"The crown is the last shield against evils that afflict ..."; if he were only alive to see the state of the royal family he would be afflicted himself inconsiderably .
I cant watch this, its heartbreaking.....
I havent seen this for 40 odd years.Thankyou for uploading this genius production.😮
Malifluous indeed
My ancestor came thru Ellis island! Took a pic of his name- Christian Hochstetler…my great grandma was a Hochstetler. It’s so cool to study history and the past
We MUST be certain our names are in the Book of Life! St John 3:16 ❤ Revelation 20:15!
Burton wasnt keen on churchill As a person To play him is to hate him He was quoted to have said!
Beautiful movie 👍
Very interesting to see a young Patrick Stewart, delivering a good Clement Attlee.
Patrick Stewart as Atlee?? He was Lenin that same year in "Fall of Eagles".
Having a scotch watching this in honor of Richard Burton. 😆
poor quality video capture
This is a good film, but my greatest admiration is for the real Clementine Spencer Churchill, Winston Churchill's wife, for 55 years, who stood by him. While she appeared to stay of the edges of Winston's pubic life, I would say she was the strength on whom Winston relied for the effect in his speeches. She listened and weighed and chewed on every word for its emotional contents and that takes an intelligent woman to handle that. That is no mean feat. That is what made Churchill, great.
If you want to see Burton and O'Toole at their best, watch Becket.
We could do with a Churchill in England now because London and this world is in a real mess……..
All these actors now gone …Vaginia McKenna was also a very good actress …How I miss all these wonder actors…I am 83 now so I remember them all …….We will never see the like again……Thank you so very much for showing this ….
All of these actors began as and continued to be stage actors. That is what made them great.
Immaculate adaptation of the 1983 novel Ellis Island penned by Fred Mustard Stewart. Alternative title could have been The Golden Door. It offers loving context to the Emma Lazarus poem on the Statue of Liberty "Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame, With conquering limbs astride from land to land; Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame. "Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
Nice made for TV movie back in those days.
I was watching this because I saw Richard Burton's name. Then I saw a young Liam Neeson. Then a host full of wondeful Actors and Actresses. Ben Vereen and Melba Moore Americans back in that day leaving because of Jim Crow many talented Black Americans left for Europe. France definitely was the spot.
dont think chunill suppoted his maiage
showa the evils of capitalism
You are using a technology and watching a movie that would not exist without capitalism. 🤡
yes still has evils@@kermitthefrog3632
How is capitalism evil when socialism has ruined many countries and still doing the same thing a hundred years later?! Definitely some parts of capitalism are toxic but without it / the USA and most other countries would look pitiful.
@@kermitthefrog3632🤣😂🤣😂🤣🤣🤣👍🏼
It's interesting to note that Neville Chamberlain continued to serve under Churchill as Lord President of the Privy Council, until ill health forced him to resign that post in September 1940. He died 9 November 1940.
Winston Churchill remember Tonypandy in 1926. You should.
Did we see church as the man that wanted people of below a certain level of intelligence chemical castrated? Or the Churchill that caused the deaths of hundreds and hundreds of our soldiers by refusing to listen to his generals. Or the Churchill that after the Second World War had all our computers and their blue prints destroyed when we were world leaders in computers. And so costing this country billions and billions in lost cash! Apple could have been a uk company. Or is it the mythical Churchill that we think won the Second World War with a number of clever speeches? For without the USA ‘s military and industrial might we would never have got back across the channel and Dunkirk would have been our greatest victory. Or is it that we are a year from a general election and the Tories are in such a state there will grasp at straws ?
Winston Churchill Was born to lead Britain to victory in the Second World War. One of his Ancestors was a leader too. The Duke of Marlborough as Winston was born in Blenheim Palace his mother was American but his father I am not sure of?. Richard Burton played the part of Winston very well,. I am Welsh too
A very poor hitler and a very poor German accent he has
I don’t think he was overlooked or forgotten, he was brilliant, full stop.
Burtons voice by its self is already a performance, the acting , the encore.
Pity about Hitler
The man who saved Britain and perhaps Western civilisation as we know and enjoy it. Closely followed by Margaret Thatcher. Thank you for your service
In 1:14:25, The Waldorf where Maude meets Marco is actually The Plaza
My maternal grandpa and his siblings were first generation born in NYC, their parents and other family members escaped from White Russia(Ukraine) because of Czar and pogroms. Both my.paternal grandparents and their family members escaped from Poland, Russia because of the Czar and pogroms in the late 1800's to Ellis Island
My grandparents came through Ellis island as well from Russia and Poland to escape from pogroms and hatred!
Thank you very good films... Richard Burton wonderful good man.
I've tried to watch this a number of times but I just can't seem to finish it. I don't agree with the others here about how great it is. Or even how great it was, as it is certainly "Dated". It's also a poor copy and in places formatted for something other than a CZcams upload which makes it visually hard to watch.
