My 18 Favourite 1990's Film Stars
These are my favourite film-stars from the 90's. ...the stars whose films I would always be keen to check out.
These might not necessarily be the greatest stars of the decade, but they are all great and they are favourites of mine. If you don't agree, that's fine.
The clips used here are for criticism and commentary within the bounds of fair use. This is a transformative effort with different expression (commentary and positive criticism) and different in character relative to the original works. The amount and substantiality of the portions used in relation to the work as a whole is a minimum necessary. These clips avoid story spoilers and inclusion here does not negatively affect the market value of any of these works. This video is not for profit.

Great list. I didn't know two of the non-English speaking films but most of the others would make my 70s top 50. My only criticism is that all your choices are very... um... 'worthy'. A lot of the fun of "favourite" or "best" lists is down to the guilty pleasure factor. In other words, films that most critics ignore or trash. My 70s top 20 would have to include 'Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory', 'Fiddler on the Roof', 'That'll Be the Day' 'The Warriors' & 'Shampoo'! Also, while 'Performance' is brilliant, I think that 'Walkabout' and especially 'The Man Who Fell to Earth' are even better Roeg films.

Every film viewer's taste differs. No, I have never seen 'Scandal in Sorrento', but how I wish I did. Just look at Sophia Loren and how gorgeous she looked!!! The new version of 'The Three Musketeers' with Raquel Welch was not a patch on the 1948 version with the beauteous Lana Turner, Gene Kelly and June Allyson. I heard a lot about 'Logan's Run', but didn't get to see it. I thoroughly enjoyed "The Fearless Vampire killers" with the lovely, Sharon Tate. I love most vampire movies and enjoyed this one too, immensely. "Diamonds are forever" with gorgeous Jill St. John. Wasn't this a James Bond movie that I must have seen. My mind is hazy about it.

This is a list of films from around the world and quite a few I have never heard of. If they were critical successes and not commercial, chances are they would not have been screened in my part of the world. Yes, D'Jango was a hit here, but I was never high on Westerns. Lilith with Jean Seberg and Warren Beatty was a highly emotional movie dealing with the mentally unstable people and depression. It may have been critically acclaimed, but it wasn't a commercial success. Breathless too was a critical success but seen by few people. Bonnie & Clyde was both a critical and box-office success. It was a bonanza of a movie, loved by all. Point Blank with Angie Dickinson was widely watched and appreciated. The good, the bad and the ugly. Very popular, but here again you have to love the Western genre to enjoy this movie. I didn't!

I miss "The Spirit of the Beehive", "Le Fantôme de la Liberté"(but being Spanish, I am perhaps biased), "Dersu Uzala", "Lacombe Lucien"and "The Stratagem of the Spider"(which I find much better than "Last Tango in Paris"). But I appreciate a lot your interest on showing that out of Hollywood, there are many interesting films to discover.

"Closely watched trains" was a cult movie for mi generation,. Also "Loves of a blonde" and "The daysies". Unhappily, watching them nowadays (at least in Spain) is very difficult. Iron Maze (1991), Single White Female (1992), City Hall (1996), Jackie Brown (1997), Break Up (1998), A Simple Plan (1998)... Bridget Fonda always contributed a great performance to each and every movie she were in.

EXCELLENT CHOICES! Apart from 2 OR 3 you must have chosen for reasons that only had to do with things like directing, screenplays, scripts or ones that I simply had no interest in. My favs were all there: Aguirre, Chinese Bookie,Chinatown, 5 Easy,Taxi Driver. Gert Carter and last but def not least, Performance! but I was amazed that you missed Badlands, The Man who fell and Dont Look Now The thing that often upsets me is watching the really bad aging of some of my early 20’s heart throbs, most notably here were Nicholson and Depardieu wheras Harvey and Dustin are looking pretty fit. I look at it as the red wedding of westerns. The love theme Ennio made for this with the strings is just heartrending. #1. High Noon #2. The Big Country #3. Unforgiven #4. Great SIlence #5. Fort Apache. #6. Westward the Women #7. A Fistful of Dollars #8. The Good, the Bad and Ugly #9. Wagon Master #10. Yellow Sky I do like Tarkovsky but I have always been more inspired and emotionally touched by the images Kalatozov and Urusevsky bring to the screen. I am Cuba and Cranes Are Flying are my favorites. The Big City: I had a really tough time getting into Indian cinema. This upload should have been titled "50's Best International Films" because the films depicted here are from different parts of the world. There's no doubt that many of these films would have won awards for best picture, best director, best actor, etc. These awards would have emerged from Cannes and other places where film festivals were held. From what little knowledge that I have of stars and films, I choose the following: (1) Scandal in Sorrento with the very gorgeous Sophia Loren. One look at her and you will realize why she became such a craze around the world. Mama Mia, its Sophia again in "Too bad she's bad". What a face, what a body and what acting chops!!! To that I have to add "Too good that she's so good"! "And God created woman" with Brigitte Bardot created a riot around the world. Ms. Bardot was a little girl in a lusty woman's body and she could act too! The little man could really fight - that's Glenn Ford in "The Big Heat". Glenn never gave a disappointing performance. His other 50's blockbuster was 'Blackboard Jungle' where Bill Haley's hit number "Rock around the clock" was first sung over the credits. North by Northwest was a neat little thriller from Alfred Hitchcock starring Cary Grant and Eva Marie Saint. It was a popular film, but not as widely-liked as "Vertigo" with the ethereal Kim Novak.

Great list, George. Nice to see some crossovers with my list and a lot that would be on my 21 to 30 list. Solitary Ronin, in the 1950's list on his channel, included Attack, Ace In The Hole and Sweet Smell Of Success. Thanks for watching.

@@steve4films Attack is definitely an underrated film. I forgot to include a few films like Winchester '73, Roman Holiday and Rio Bravo.

I always enjoy your choices, and am usually surprised at how many of these I've seen, but I'm particularly interested in those I've yet to check out. ILYA MUROMETS certainly looked intriguing. I have to say that almost any Sophia Loren film from the 50's, Italian or American produced, is a must for me! I would have added at least one Marilyn Monroe film, probably GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES or THE SEVEN YEAR ITCH, because it's just anathema to not include her work in my favorites of that decade. Until next time, thanks for the content.

Thanks for watching. I did have a few Marilyn Monroe films on my long list (Some Like It Hot, Asphalt Jungle, Bus Stop). Ilya Muromets is fantastical and hugely watchable. It apparently used the most extras in any film ever! It you enjoy big scale fairy-tale I think you'll enjoy it.
