I didn't put the cardboard between the pads and now I can't get the caliper to open up. I tried a C-clamp but it doesn't work, I need one end to be offset. What's the trick to compress the caliper?

I am sorry, this question skipped past me. I found out that if you crack the bleeder, the pressure is taken off the piston. If it still doesnt move, you may have a stuck piston which requires it to be rebuilt. I know you probably already have this fixed.

This video assumes that anyone watching it and about to take the rear wheel off has a lift like yours. I have a handy lift that does not have that hole in it to allow the rear wheel to drop. instead, it is actually much easier if you remove the four bolts holding the final drive unit on. That way, you can swing the tire out if you don’t have those rails around your saddlebags. While you have the final Drive unit off. That is the time to drain the oil from the final drive and change it, it is also the time to pull the driveshaft out and lube the splines. It is also the time to lube all of the linkage bearings and bushings for your rear shock….It may seem like a pain to do those chores, but if you don’t wanna do them yourself, you can always schedule an appointment at your local dealer. He’s only charging $125 an hour now

that is called the Cush drive. It is the shock absorber system for the driveline. You must have a cush drive on all road bikes, or else- You could damage the transmission. When a manufacturer like Honda for example makes a dirt only/off-road only machine that is not approved for highway use. They do not have cush drive in the rear wheel.. The fact that that machine is operated on dirt saves the transmission/protects the transmission from the shock of changing gears.. but if that same engine and frame and wheels motorcycle is a dual purpose bike that can be written on road and off-road. that machine will have that rubber absorption system in the rear sprocket drive/connection to the rear hub, just because that machine will be operated on asphalt, and the shock of changing gears on hard street surfaces is murder on transmissions.. The way water gets into the rear hub, and even into your suspension bearings and bushings and wheel bearings is usually, somebody took that motorcycle to a car pressure washer. Pressure washers destroy motorcycles. They rinse out grease, and they force in dirty water. They force that down the cables, in past all the seals that are meant to just merely hold out splashes of rainwater. Those pressure washers have such force, they could take your skin off if you held it there long enough. They’ll take the paint off also. They rinse the lube out of your foot peg pivots, out of your shift linkage joints, they rinse the lube out of your chain if you have one,, they forced water into their gauges and it ends up inside the glass, it ends up inside your headlight and tail light lenses, he gets into your electronics, into your shocks and forks, ECT. I noticed the course drive hub on this motorcycle had signs that it had water in it. Either that bike was submerged or it was pressure washed.. never never never use a pressure washer on a motorcycle. If you go to look at a used bike for sale, and it is spotlessly clean. Everywhere. That guy probably use the pressure washer on it.. don’t act like that’s a bad thing in front of the seller, Just ask him if he uses a pressure washer to get his bike so beautifully clean. If he says yes, walk away

I got a bad sound this morning after my new used '99 venture turned over three times and then sounded like it siezed up. It was a sickening sound like something had already broke, sending the rod into something and stopping the turn. But why on startup, and no warning? So I would start with the oil. Smell it. See if there is fuel in the oil. If fuel is present in the oil. The engine has hydro locked. Common reasons are the fuel shutoff valve is leaking when turned off. Fuel shutoff valve is not shutoff. Carbs have sticking floats. Etc. Smell the oil. Start there.

Pulling plugs as soon as I dig up an 18 mm thin wall socket. Since exchanging my carbs isn't an option for me, if I can't replace the seals without jacking up the sync, if I don't find a better option, I will probably just start shutting off the fuel a quarter mile before I get home.

I will go into detail and maybe you can toss out some ideas as the guys on the Venture forum have. I am a pretty aggressive rider , i love to lean way into the turns, I have a 97 triumph Daytona T-595 (955cc sport bike) and also a 2005 Road Star (1700 cc V-Twin Yammi cruiser) i take both into the corners aggressively, i have worn the wear bars on the roadstar floor boards down to the nub TWICE from dragging them in the corners. well i was out getting used to the Royal Star and after about 100+ miles i decided it was time to drag a floor board as i went into the corner( typical 90* intersection ) and as i just touched the floorboard to the pavement it felt like the front suspension was twisting. Bike got a little out of shape but not to much, i calmly eased her back up a bit and continued my line through the turn. My first thought was a tire and since i'm changing the rear i figured might as well change the front too. Make it a matched pair . Guys on the venture web site said check steering bearings , and i also wanted to check and change fork oil im pretty sure it is from 1999 so while i've got her in the air i'm gonna hit the whole front end. Have you experienced a front end twist or wobble hard into a corner?? Again thanks for the video ,oh one question on front tire video, did you have someone hold the bike up while you put jack under front, or did you have it strapped, then snug up jack ,loosen straps jack her up and then re-tighten straps ? if not how ? Just curious because its usually just ME in the garage.
