    Sorry to bother, but I followed your tutorial on my 08 XL1200C to add a charging port and for some reason it 1) won't keep up with charging my phone even though it shows it on super fast charge and 2) will stop charging for a few seconds then turn back on. The charger is fused and seems to work until it hits about 10 minutes. Any suggestions?

    • @Bikervation
      @Bikervation Před měsícem

      Hi and thanks for watching. This would be my take on your situation, if you have hard wired (as I did) into a switched 12v wire in the loom and the rest of the bike works as it should then I think one could assume the 12v to the charging unit is stable. So I would check the connection to the charging unit in case it was making intermittent contact causing the supply to drop out or I would think the charging unit itself was the culprit. If it’s not keeping up with your phone it suggests the unit isn’t supplying sufficient current (Amps) and is working at its full capacity and after 10 mins gets hot and cuts out. Hope that helps, Chris

    • @Bikervation
      @Bikervation Před 2 měsíci

      It’s not clear to me what you’re asking? If you’re asking what tools do you need to replace the clutch I can’t give you a list. The very best thing you can do is get a workshop manual for your year and read up on changing the clutch, it should tell you what’s needed. One indispensable tool is a clutch spring compressor a bit pricey but these can be made, there’s lots of CZcams videos on clutch tools. Hope that help a little, Chris

    • @rodrigomorais8302
      @rodrigomorais8302 Před 2 měsíci

      Thank you Chris. I bought one compressor from Amazon. But I think it didn’t do the work properly, because the spring plate wasn’t loose enough to let me take off the rings. That’s why I thought if I put the bike on 3rd or 4th gear before I loose the clutch cable if It would be easier to put that pressure on the spring plate to make it loose. Anyways, I think I have to buy a properly tool for this service. Thank you

    • @Bikervation
      @Bikervation Před 2 měsíci

      @@rodrigomorais8302 Sorry I misunderstood your question. I agree the tool from Amazon is not very well made, I had to file the face of the spinning nut (thing with the handles) square with the body of the clamp. Also it was a bit more difficult than I thought but was being careful not to brake the spring. I don’t think there is any need to put the bike in gear as you hold the bit that would spin with a spanner. I just looked at that bit again on my video and can’t think of a better way of describing it. Del boy’s garage has some good videos on the sportster clutch that would be worth watching. If you don't use the stock O Ring it is going to leak. When you are running down the highway oil is going to come out. The groove where the O Ring is sitting in is out of round. Take file and go around the groove to get rid of the out of round. I have done a lot of these. No leaks and easy to take off.

    How does it look on your PC before you upload it vs what it looks like on CZcams? I imagine you are losing a lot of bitrate once on CZcams as it is using their low quality codec. If you record it at the 1080/50 and then render it at 2.7k/50 with the same bitrate, it won't be any larger a file size than if it was still 1080, but when it goes onto CZcams, you'll get the VP9 codec which is much better and it will look a lot closer to how your original edited video looks before putting it on YT. Bike sounds great mate, and what a lovely day to play bikes 🙂

    Good one - having experimented a number of times I was never able to get more than about 20psi into the tyres of my big bikes, however many cartridges I used! I will have a go on the CT125 to see if they work as I have converted the tyres to tubeless so the permeability of the tyre compound may differ from the butyl rubber of an inner tube - in spite of CO2 molecules being larger than O2 Tony, Southport

    Please tell me at 22:52 when you insert those 4 bolts I noticed that 2 bolts are shorter than the other two. I'm not sure which side the shorter bolts go on. (clutch side or throttle side?) Thanks for your response!

    • @Bikervation
      @Bikervation Před 4 měsíci

      Hi and thanks for watching, this was 4 years ago so a bit hazy but I seem to remember the shorter bolts were the wrong ones! I noticed this at 23:44 and corrected it and as I recall the bolts were all the same (long ones) and the short ones were from the rocker cover. Shows how important it is to keep everything in order, I find using cardboard and put bolts through with labels on disassembly so I know where they go on reassembly helps - a lesson learnt after this mix up :)

    • @Jeff82556
      @Jeff82556 Před 4 měsíci

      @@BikervationYou must be talking about something else, some other bolts. Those bolts are NOT the same. (your arm blocked the view) As I said, at 22:52 there are 4 bolts, 2 of them are shorter. (1/2 inch) Where do the shorter ones go? (not talking about the 3 shorter 7/16" bolts) The answer from Haynes manual is: "The rocker arm cover bolt sizes are different. Install the longer bolts (A, Figure 41 ) on the right-hand side. So thanks anyway. I figured it out, thanks to Haynes.

      @Bikervation I was up late last night and drained the bike about 6 hours prior I removed everything and the plates where dry 🙃 on assembly I did soak the plates 3 months back but when the clutch gave way last week I won't lie I never resoaked them as the plates where still in the basket I can't see how this would make the lever with all adjustments still loose however

    • @Bikervation
      @Bikervation Před 4 měsíci

      @@scousebikersIf everything is assembled correctly all I can think of is the clutch cable outer as it goes into the primary case. I'd adjust the clutch cable as per manual, try the lever - if it was loose check adjustment again, I guess if you need to readjust then the outer cable sheath is not seated and is slipping. That's about all I can think of. Chris

    What would cause this tank to split?

    • @Bikervation
      @Bikervation Před 4 měsíci

      Hi and thanks for watching, as far as I know this is a known fault with the 2004 tank #62888-04A which is on my bike. They didn’t have a pressure release valve and if the tank is over filled the pressure can build up, the newer 2010 tank #62954-10 has the valve. There’s a fair bit about this on the forums such as: www.xlforum.net/, hope that helps. Chris

    I was wondering about the TVP vs JP bearing as well. The TVP uses a plastic cage and the JP uses steel. The specs are identical with the exception of the temperature rating, with JP being higher. Maybe better to go with the JP?

    Chris , I just bought one (Canada) and plan some wiring stuff, too. I see the Reg/Rec. has 2 biggish 'condensers' integrated to it , do you have any idea what these are for ? @@Bikervation So I went to Shindengen's site , and they show how basically this type (AC/DC single- phase with 2 Condensers) of R/R , works. One of the condensors supplies power to the FI system , which explains why the CT will kick-start even with a flat battery (or some say even with NO battery !) Well...I'll test all this when the bike arrives , next April I'm told. Thanks , André
