Thanks for the explanation! 👍🙏 How long did it take to complete the border crossing procedure? O heard mix experience, some did it as quick as 30mins, but some did it like almost 3 hours. Does it depend on the time and luck? Some avoid mornings as it can be quite congested with busses, trucks, etc. We plan to stop at Alor Setar and drive early from there direct to Krabi town. And how about driving back from there to KL, any option you suggest? To stop at Hat Yai or back to Alor Setar perhaps? Thank you so much for your response. It'll be my first time as well, so I want to be well prepared. 🙏

I was driving from Trang through Wang Kelian checkpoint and back again some years ago. I did not have to leave the car, only showing passport, very easy and fast.

Thank you for sharing, very easy process. I went to Hatyai early this month, as long your have original car registration (VOC or RC) with JPJ, thailand insurance, TM2 Form & TM3 Form and passport you can enter Thailand already. For Thai Insurance, I purchase together with voluntary (3rd party). For now we don't need to fill in TM6. The most important make sure your car in good condition before travel. When your return to Malaysia, before leaving Thai immigration, do not forget to return customs declaration form & TM3. One thing, please drop your passenger at the entrance of Thai immigration first do not cramp all family at the drive thru counter for driver. you make the process slow. only driver need to present at the counter, I've seen this from Malaysia side. Thai immigration already stated with big board about this. It was happen when you return to Malaysia as well.Too bad still didn't follow the rules... Document requirement: 1) Valid passport 2) Valid driving license 3) Car registration card (VOC or RC) under your name, please don not laminate you CR/VOC, if you drive someone else car please prepare the authorization letter with owner's signature 4) Form TM2 5) Form TM3 6) Thai Insurance (you can purchase online/in advance) or walk in you can see many shops selling it at Changlun Area 7) Personal Travel Insurance (if needed) 8) For driver, you need to pay Thai immigration around 35 bhat, depend how much they charge you. You have a small change that would be good. don't worry they have a changes even you paid with big notes. 9)When your return to Malaysia, before leaving Thai immigration, do not forget to return customs declaration form & TM3 form. 10) If you plan to rent a car in Thai, please apply International driving license (Permit Memandu Antarabangsa) with JPJ with cost RM 150, you can apply via online thru JPJ portal. once your application approved, print a receipt and bring your photo (passport size with white background) to JPJ counter. I recommend go to UTC keramat for collection. The insurer told me this is additional document use for insurance claim, in case you involve with car accident. I apply for myself because I drive my husband car in Phatumthani area or bangkok area or when we drive back from Malaysia to Bangkok. I hope this will help you .Safe travel everyone ;)

Insurance can also be purchased at the Thai Thai Immigration office where we get the TM2 & TM3 forms for car documents right? I remembered did it there before covid when travelling to Pakbara
